The one in La Mesa is ghetto. Food is pretty decent, but a bit too run down for me.

On topic of beer, Stone in Escondido is a hike but Liberty Station is wonderful and if it's sunny, sit outside. Man, Stone in Escondido is fantastic. Forgot that. (Food is good there, a little overpriced IMO though.)

Blind Lady Alehouse (Normal Heights) for excellent pizzas and salads and world class taps
El Comal (North Park) for top notch authentic Mexican food (not hipster, despite neighborhood)
The Station for kid friendly burgers and beers plus drinks in South Park
Bo-Beau's in La Mesa for kid friendly bistro type food with great taps
RK Sushi in Mission Hills for affordable, excellent sushi
Just a sample!

The one in La Mesa is ghetto. Food is pretty decent, but a bit too run down for me. But they got a nice little cement pond. Plus, you can now take your critters with you to eat outside… LOL Pt Loma Pt Loma Seafood - Squid Sandwich Second this one - it's a great lunch spot. Mostly al fresco - and even then, it's still not a restaurant.

A couple of sit down fish-centric places for your consideration: For, IMO, the best (sword)fish tacos in the USA.: Costa Azul in Coronado. They also pour a great margarita! www.costaazulcoronado.com/menu.phpGood place for sunset views, mixed in with some boardwalk "live theater" - and a reasonable Happy Hour menu: World Famous in Pacific Beach. www.worldfamouspb.com/#!chef/c42f

I also liked the Venician (although, I'm pretty sure I misspelled it...), and Slater's is good as well as unique. Those burgers are huge too!
