As the coaches have said numerous times not every recruit are guys that the Aztecs choose to recruit . They want guys that will spend a lot of energy on defending . If you don't you don't play . HS players know that and look for schools that stress offense . So we are not on the radar for many of the top 10 recruits who see offense as their priority - including players similar to Vaughn . Believe the closest guy we have is Pope or maybe Kell , they are scorers not just shooters. Helmsley is another in the scorer combo guard mold . So was X , he developed into a scorer/shooter . Aztec coaches have tried to convert Shrigley into a shooter that is not working 28% FG , that is why he red shirted . Now they give him every opportunity ,but time to realize we recruit athletic guys go max out their talents instead of trying to create shooters. Believe AQ was a scorer, also very streaky, who they are now trying to make into a PG . Zabo played SG last year , he deserves an opportunity . Also Pope is a real scorer but his D has limited his PT , not easy being instant offense when your PT is low .

The team has adequate shooters. The problem is coaching. getting them the ball in position and spots. Thames and tarpley were exceptional, they knew how to get open and create space. None on this team has this ability or know how. So, it is the coaches job to know how to teach passing to the shooters while in rhythm. The one on one tarpley, thames lucky to have, is not in the cards. If you want shooters, look to a high school coach who teaches the fundamentals. Members of this team are AAU products, that were not taught.

Trey Kell was one of the most gifted scorers in the entire country coming out of high school last year. He's got to find his shooting stroke sooner or later.

Fisher recruiting a shooter is kind of like Rocky recruiting a QB, there have been a few misses.

Fisher has said numerous times he recruits Scorers not just shooters . This year it was Pope and Kell , who are supposed to be guys ,that Fisher has said are guys that can score the basketball . Shrigley was brought in then red shirted to learn to shoot threes . The DA and DW were brought in because they play D . Shepard , JJ , Polee, X, K .L the same .... Also listen to every comment from all the players and coaches , if you do not play D , you are not going to get PT . Pope is a great example had to really work on his D to get the PT.
Players talk and if recruits or transfer hear that they may just decide that SDSU is not the place for them . the coaches understand that and only recruit guys that fit in to the SDSU strategy . For next year Helmsley and BJ , so do not expect a great change . Do you think the Aztecs recruited Johnny Dee heavily when he was leaving HS .
