The reason for the pre-season AP rankings is the recruiting class off Kell, Zabo, Cheatham & Pope.
The ramp up for Pope in ongoing, I expect more minutes in the coming cupcake 2 weeks that precede conference play. I expect the same for Zylan.
These kids are "scorers".
I think everyone has to be impressed with Kell playing his 1st D1 games as a starter.
Quinn has been out for 3 weeks & to play such a intense game is alot to ask.
Sure the AP ranking will be gone next week, this team is still coming together. The real season starts in March. Theses losses will cost us a nice seeding, buts it will be fun to watch them grow.
The preseason comments of who will replace Thames, was definitely on mark, we were spoiled last year.
Lst nites come back to tie & the same for Long Beach showed character. Cincinnati just wanted it more.

Pope needs to learn to play D, and looks extremely slow on his help side defense. Not sure he is a wing player, looks more like the Wood kid for UNLV who plays PF.
If he gets his foot speed back he can play the wing... 2 years out of bball is a long time so he may be completely different next year.

This team greatly lacks consistent outside shooting and play-making for others from the PG position. I think Pope could help with the outside shooting, but I would actually like to see D'Erryl get more time at the PG spot. Kell is a fine player, but you can tell he is a true SG playing the PG position. He may one day grow into a more play-making PG, but he is not right now. I think Williams D'Erryl could help with the drive and dish and get us some more easy baskets inside.
What we really need is for Shirgley and Polee to rediscover their outside shots. Man, I was expecting so much more from Polee this year. The way he ended the season I thought he had a chance to play his way into the 1st round of the NBA draft, but his outside shot has gone horribly backward. Getting Quinn back helps with the outside shooting too.
Since I have never seen Cheatham play at this level, I have no idea what he can bring to the table? I'm sure the coaches who get to see him at practice every day will make the right call. If they think he can help us win games, I'm sure they will activate him.

There is no one solution , but Pope was brought in to score , please give him the minutes the coach gives to Shrigley . Kell is a SG not a PG , so Zabo would be an option or even Williams at PG . Not easy to learn the PG position for Kell , Winston , JJ or AQ. Let the guys go on the offensive when we have the ball with more movement and attack the basket . Polee , find a way to get him the ball near the basket rather then have him also outside launching threes . We are not a good three point shooting team .Limit them If Cheatham can rebound then he could help but not sure if Fisher will sit JJ , his favorite player .

He's the best defender amongst the guards. I think he would have cooled down Cobb toward the end of the game last night. Sure we give up some offense when he's in there, but it's up to others to provide it.

I'm incredibly disappointed by his D so far this year (help side or if it's his man). He reacts slowly and then just throws his body into the opponent instead of using his feet to stay in front. Did it at least twice again last night

I think if Fish had done the same on cobb we may have won the game in regulation. Quinn just didnt have the length to alter cobbs shots.

Allen or Williams? So many issues and questions about our guard play.

If someone can make shots I would like to see him get more minutes. I don't care who it is. Even if its a walk on.

No time for new guys, when we have our stud rotation already in place. Don't you see that they are killing it, if only defense could score.

But he's not going to be playing in the NBA unless he learns to play the game a little smarter.

He may have been an all-world high schooler (easy to do when you're a man among boys), but at the D1 level, so far, he's a dime a dozen. We are lucky to get transfers from big schools like AZ of course, but we need our guys to be a bit smarter.

The defense does score when the transiton is quick..i.e. Polees two quick baskets off the pressure...Then quickly replaced by Shrigely...WHY???

Because the GLUE was already on the floor, Shrigley is the "glue in waiting" so he replaced polee when he missed the lay up. These great moves fueled our rotten performance in OT.

Gives more credence to my thoughts. What do I know, aw shucks, just some nobody posting on Aztec Mesa. Even I saw this and a change was made.
