When Marshall ran around the corner on SC and blew away guys who had angles on him, it was shocking speed. Like you said World class. Yes, it was. I was in the stands seated at about the 30-yd. line. That play happened right in front of me. And it wasn't just any guys that Faulk outran the angles on. One of the guys he made look like a complete fool was Willie McGinest -- All-Pac10, All-America and future NFL Pro Bowler and multiple Super Bowl champion.

Faulk was the best college player in any sport that I have ever got the opportunity to see with my own eyes. That's all.

I've seen both play in person and I would say definitely Marshall Faulk and he usually had to run on straight out dirt for home games. It's unfortunate that Pumphrey is really undersized.

40 times don't mean squat. They're all highly suspect and prone to huge swings due to error. But both Faulk and Pumphrey ran h.s. track. And, again, Pumphrey was a fast runner, but Faulk was world-class. And as I've psotted before, there's a huge difference between being fast and being world-class fast. The first time I saw Faulk I could tell that the U.S. Olympic team was missing one of its stars to the Aztecs. Seriously. Faulk's best h.s. track times vs. Pumphrey's: 100m Marshall: 10.3 Donnel: 10.74 200m Marshall: 21.74 Donnel: 22.07 (non-wind-aided) 400m Marshall: 49.4 Donnel: 50.64 Other than Wikipedia, I can't find the 10.3 anywhere and the 200 and 400 are great high school times but not world class. Also, the 10.3 only has tenths and not hundredths of a second so it looks hand timed. Maybe Faulk wasn't quite that fast.

No. Not even close.
Excerpt from 1st paragraph on Wiki:
"Marshall Faulk who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for twelve seasons. He played college football for San Diego State University, and was a two-time consensus All-American. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the second overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft, and he also played professionally for the NFL's St. Louis Rams. Faulk is one of only three NFL players (Marcus Allen and Tiki Barber being the others) to reach at least 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards; he is the only one to amass 12,000 yards rushing and 6,000 yards receiving. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011."
Pumphrey is a good player. I seriously doubt he'll play much in the NFL. If he does it won't be for 12 years and he won't be a first ballot hall of famer.

Where does MF come up on total yards from scrimmage in NFL history? Anyone know? The question excludes quarterbacks.

Found the answer: MF is first in receiving yards among RBs, tenth in rushing yards, and THIRD overall in total yards.
A truly great Aztec4Life!
