This conversation leads me to think about the hypothetical. What if hyper athletic ZC had not broke his foot and was full strength to compliment and learn from JJ since the summer? Something tells me that would have been fun to watch. The wise 5th year senior with the plodding style and the crazy hops wild freshman complimenting each other. Just a random thought.

JJ does what he can to help this team 100% of the time. He plays smart and positions himself well. We have been thin in the front court during his time here so that is where he typically contributes. Only a fool would hate JJ. I understand wanting to see more tangible results from his position but you can't blame a guy for doing everything he can to help this team. For better or worse he is and has been our best option at the four. +100 New fan doesn't get it, does he? Leadership is a necessary intangible. Fish gets it, that is why he is successful. In the last three games we have failed to inbound the ball 4 times. I don't believe that JJ was on the court for any of those.
I do wish he would finish better around the rim. I just want to know why all our inside players put the ball up immediately, never use a head or ball fake. JJ is one on the team that I don't mind putting on the line.

Turnovers would be my guess. We've seen our guys get stripped when they get the ball down low.

He's like the golfer on a par 5 who drives the ball 300 yards. Hits a nice draw around a tree to put him right in front of the green. Then hits a beautiful chip shot that lands 6 feet from the hole. Then lips out and leaves the ball 2 feet from the pin. Then yips that putt, too, before finally sinking it. Turns a birdie into a bogey. Not good. That one hit too close to home... I'll be on the putting green if anyone needs me.

We all have our favorites and guys we think get too much PT and we enjoy pointing out their short comings . JJ is Fisher's favorite player , so he gets the most PT and lately since we have no go to guy , the coaches set up plays for him to take the last shot . Fisher likes him because of his high basketball IQ , he does numerous things well but not excellent . As noted he is a tweener not a real PF or SF , since we do not have a true PF that is where he is playing , he uses his high IQ to compensate for not being as athletic as the majority of the other guys on the team . He can play well against normal PF's but has problems with strong or quick PF's . He has a very good move to the basket But can not FINISH with authority - too much finesse and not enough hops to slam it home . So I would judge him on if he scores the basket or if we watch as it bounces off the rim . We see too many opportunities missed for a team that has trouble scoring , if we scored a lot of points it may not seem important but it is for this team - we need scorers . He is not the only one who does not finish but as a fifth year senior "glue" guy he should know , you do not get credit for style points but points that go on the board . He should not be the go to guy on offense but until Shepard , Polee , or ......... are consistent enough the coaches will try to get JJ the ball with set plays . The way they did at the end of regulation of the BYU game . He is a player that relies on his BB IQ and is not that athletic player that many of us wish we had . He Did well against an average LB front line but also missed an important opportunity to make the first FT at the end then knew enough to miss the second . If he makes both FT 's then we are in even better situation . JJ is an even natured guy that we should realize is at his ceiling for playing ability , the calm guy , so we take that and hope some of the more athletic guys step up and perform at a higher level . JJ is a great guy but we end up judging guys on if our teams wins a game and then what each player contributes to the W or what they did not do in a Loss . We have done that with numerous other players and it will continue , but as we all hope , we get a lot more W's and few L's . I hope JJ does well , but hope we get even better play from some of the other players , who we are going to need to really step up on the offensive production for the team to reach its goals . All pretty fare. I agree with almost all of it, and particularly that part that he gets the most out of whatever athletic abilities he has. He also is a solid defender. As I have stated before, he will make a great coach.

I understand, and what you are writing has lots of merit, but there are times in games where a JJ is needed, and the freshman spunk and athleticism is not. Besides, we know nothing of ZC's game at the D-1 level. Who knows, he may be better than #2 for the Spurs.

Turnovers would be my guess. We've seen our guys get stripped when they get the ball down low. Part of that is caused by putting the ball on the floor. Take it back up, don't bounce it. That happens a lot.

There isn't anyone on this board that has observed JJ as much as Fisher has. There isn't anyone on this board who knows as much about Aztec Basketball as Fisher does. If Fisher says that JJ is 'the man' then JJ is the man. Has JJ missed what looks like easy shots to fans sitting in their chairs? Sure. For this team with the personnel available JJ is the player who our coach chooses to give the most minutes to. Good enough for me. JJ will never be the man. He is what he is, the teacher's lap dog that will never do wrong in the coach eyes. Fisher should give some min to Dakarai, dude's defends hard, there's 5 star Malik Pope rotting on the bench, and there's another guy that could help in Cheatham waiting to get some action.

We all want the team to do well, I agree with honeybadger regarding JJ. Unfortnately he played 43 minutes tonight with 6 points. 2 of his pts. Came from a wide open layup he bricked and put back. This has become the norm, heck, I'm tired of him getting rejected inside and taken down low by the opposing power forward at will. The kid is trying his hardest, doing what he can, I blame Fish. As I have said in the past, some players perform better in practice. Others have the athleticism, another gear if you will. JF, Polee most recently just needed the opportunity. I'm hoping this loss stung enough to get Pope, Cheatham, and anyone else who can PLAY, the chance to show what they can do with everyone watching. Alan Iverson knew the difference.......maybe we can figure it out too. "PRACTICE"

JJ does well within his game. Does not have the explosiveness or qickness to compete with a bigger man

It is absolutely amazing to me how many people think that they know more than Coach Fisher. How do you have time to post on this board with all of your Head Coaching Responsibilities?

Look, many knew we had issues with the starting rotation (including yours truly) doesn't mean I know, or we knew more than Coach Fisher. It just shows the obvious glaring issue at hand. Did the Kool-Aid brigade have any take on this, besides "everything will fix itself"...

For the JJ detractors on this board(and you know who you are) solid game for him last night. Thirteen points, six rebounds. Nice "lapdog" to have on your team.

Exactly! Love JJ. He sometimes is mis-judged because he does the grinding work that doesn't make the highlight reel. And he does it day in - day out. The most important player for sure.

Unfortunately, Pope is not yet playing like a 5 star player (except at the FT line). He is playing like a talented kid who hasn't played a lot of BB in the last two years.

Coach Fisher loves JJO. That is all. He will live and die with him in the starting lineup. Good enough for me!
