16 blocks in 4 games is on pace for 144 blocks.
2014-2015 6.2 blocks/40 minutes 2013-2014 4.1 blocks/40 minutes
Those stats don't count the players who change shots just knowing he is there...like to end the first OT.
BYU was 17-48 shooting 2s last night. That is 35.4%. BYU was 79-126 shooting 2s before last night. That is 62.7%.
A big part of that is Skylar. The other big part is ONLY 4 points on fast breaks.

And like you said, there have been a LOT of altered shots in these first few games. Spencer has a legitimate gift for shot blocking. He doesn't even jump very high... his arm length and timing is just completely on point. His value to this team can't be understated. Opponents literally can't score down low against him, it doesn't matter how good they are. He does a good job of avoiding contact too

Spencer tied his career high in blocks with 6 against CSUN. Before you think it was the competition, the game he tied was his 6 blocks at Kansas.

I have to say I have been disappointed in Skylar's play so far. He has given up ground underneath, he hasn't finished strong and he really hasn't improved his offensive game. Although, he has passed well. But those blocked shots make up for so many mistakes that its hard to not have him on the floor. Chol is a much better player, but Spencer has that one gift that can really alter a game. Its a case where the better player is not always the better choice.

As nice as it is to have Chol's offense down low (which really is great/valuable), I've been disappointed with his defense. I expected him to be a spectacular shot-blocker (he set a record for blocked shots in high school... I think it might've even been the national record, but it could've been state) so having the two of them would make it impossible to score against us. I've noticed he bodies people up way too hard down low and fouls a lot, plus seems to jump a little late sometimes. He did have a great block last night though against that guard who tried to do a layup on him. I have a feeling it could be because he's still getting the feel of things after not playing for a while though.... I suspect it'll improve

Skylar has been a beast down low...watch on any play...he blocks out the other teams best rebounder so one of our other players are able to grab a rebound uncontested...that is "blue collar" work that never shows up in the box score but helps to create a winning team (just like move a runner over in baseball). His presence inside forces players to miss shots (even if they aren't swatted). He's never been a back to the basket player like Chol is or a primary offensive option (although Coach does run a few plays especially for him)...he sets high screens for our shooters...crashes the boards and puts back balls off misses... His FTs have always been an adventure...if we can get 55%+ from him at the line...I'll take it Overall...we are a better team when he is in the game...

During our opening run of the game Spencer's block put the guy on the floor. Before going up court he turned around and said something to the guy, like "chump." LOL

Chol is by far and away a better offensive player, and he' still a plus defender, which makes you appreciate just how good Skylar's defense is for Fisher to have him on the court so much more than Angelo last night.

LOL Anyone watching our games closely enough... can see Sky talking trash after just about every block. He will probably get T'd up at some point.

So when are we having a " Sky Fly Swatter " night at Viejas .? Chol is still rusty has not started a game in three plus years . He and Spencer are still learning the finer things about playing down low . It would also be nice if the coaches included them in the scheme of the offense , not just be ball screener for the guards . Also would enjoy it if the Aztecs played some zone D's . So "Sky Pilot " could roam the middle of the lane and not have to chase . As noted , he has blocks and makes the other team adjust their shot as they approach him.
