Was that his best game as an Aztec? Stat line: 18 points (6-10 FG, 5-6 FT), 8 boards, 3 assists, and a block. Really made buckets when it mattered though and played great D for the most part, except for a couple times where he bit on a pump fake and they drew fouls. He didn't make any bad mistakes. JJ also played really well (13 pts, 9 boards, 6 assists, 1 blk, 1 stl)

Shepard did step up today...by far his best game as an Aztec...maybe he knew 24 NBA scouts were in attendance

Winston played brilliantly in the first half.
He is who he is, though, and made some serious mental mistakes in the 2nd half and beyond; the coaches noticed, and pulled him twice from the game because of it.
We have to take the bad with the good, and hope we see more of first half Winston the rest of the tournament.

He played 40 minutes, and had great game. I wish he had been able to slam that tip-in at the end of regulation. That would have been a fitting end to the game. He was in a perfect rebounding position, but the ball got stuck under the rim a little. I'm hoping he has another great game like that tonight.

Shepard's leadership and maturity are on another level this year and you can tell. He's never going to consistently put up 20 points but should always have a line of double figures in scoring 6-8 boards, a couple assists and a few steals or blocks. It's his defense and confidence that separates him from others.

Shepard's game was a little quite and easy to overlook.
Shepard 18 points on 10 attempts and 3 trips to the line. 18/13 = 1.38 Quinn 22 points on 18 attempts. 22/18 = 1.22 O'Brien 13 points on 11 attempts. 13/11 = 1.18
Shepard is 3-6 shooting 3s. Every one of his 3s has been a great decision. If they leave him open on the arch he can punish.

*If he would've punched that ball in off of the rim at the end of regulation.....then yes. Good early test for these boys though!

I have to agree. Having him not be a primary ball handler/distributor really allows him to attack the rim and get put backs where he is quicker and able to jump better than maybe most of the others. That dish from JJ to Shep when he got that and 1 was a thing of beauty. I expect to see that hookup more and more as teams try to zone us. They are both excellent passers inside.

Shep's inability to "Throw it down, big man!" is the only thing he's missing from his arsenal at this point. But I BELIEVE THAT HE WILL by the end of the season - maybe the GW slam in the NC game

Announcers called Shepards dunk attempt a BYU block LOL . Not in the stats sheet. Rim is not on BYU's roster.

In the stats it was not a rebound and missed shot attempt. It was a non-event. Shepard is 3-6 shooting 3s this season.

I like how he shouts, "EEE-YAH!" every time he goes hard inside the paint.
Oldie Out

I loved how he can now take an open three without me having to turn away from the screen
I noticed he got a bit of a mean streak going too. Now he has to stop letting rims block his dunks.

That would've been about the best ending to an aztec game I've ever seen if he slammed that in just before the buzzer. Right up there with that ball that rolled around the rim at the UNLV building (can't remember if it was regular season or in the MWC tournament) and Brandon Heath was watching it SO intently as it rolled around and went in. Can't even remember who shot it

He reminds me of Lamar Odom. He can do everything- a unique talent, but is prone to some lapses, and he doesn't shoot the ball great.

I think the TV announcers hit it on the head last night when one of them described Winston as... mercurial.

His game is coming together. We have always seen his confidence, but it's finally being backed by his game.
