Opened at 4, now down to 3.5....I was thinking it would even be less, due to our lack of scoring....This game scares me big time.

I know that BYU hasn't played anyone, but they average over 95 points a game. Yes, not against our defense, but we will have to shoot better than the last two games to win.

The thing that's concerning is that, although we were amazing defensively against CSUB, they still missed a bunch of open shots that BYU won't. Obviously we still won by twenty something, but I think we'll have to be more than a little better on offense, we'll have to be a LOT better to win against BYU.

I was thinking the same thing about the missed open 3 point looks that CSB missed, BYU won't. We'll have to close out better, stay close to their best 3 PT shooters, and we need to make shots- way more than the past 2 games. We have to make shots to set up that press.

What people are forgetting or don't understand is that a suffocating defense has effect on open shots as well. The mental effect of feeling rushed and pressure to score will get inside the head of the shooter. Conversely, mature teams can overcome that and take advantage puff those open looks. We'll see tonight. I think our shots will start dropping.. Sent from my Admiral Mark 01 Telegraph machine via Sputnik with dial-up

linkCheck this out from CBS. Never did I ever think that we would be mentioned in the same sentence as Kentucky. "Second-best game: BYU vs. San Diego State (11:30 ET, ESPN2) -- Here, we have the classic offense vs. defense matchup. San Diego State and Kentucky have separated themselves from the rest of the country with their defensive prowess in the early part of the season. The Aztecs allowed only 49 points to Utah, and then followed that up by only giving up 27 to CSU-Bakersfield. They both force turnovers and contest every shot with their impressive length at every position. On the other side, BYU features a high-powered offense fueled by guard Tyler Haws, who has as good a shot as anyone to lead the nation in scoring. The Aztecs are a team I've been really impressed with this season, and I think they beat the Cougars here to set up a likely matchup against Pittsburgh in the semifinals."

The Aztec defense deserves (actually demands) national recognition as it's the best in the nation.
By the way, I was looking at the Maui website and the 8 teams in Maui had games associated with the tournament last week (no bearing on brackets) and saw that 7 of the 8 teams won. Only Missouri last their "cupcake" game vs UMKC....surprised me.

You heard it here first...
Tomorrows reports will say that BYU had an "off" night shooting with the Aztecs winning by 10. Cougars only shoot 34% from the floor...Hawes scores 28 points...but the rest of the team scores only combines for 21 points as BYU falls to the Aztecs by a score of 59-49...
...oh yeah...and Aztec fans will be pissed off because they only had 5 assists...

I like that we've been tested. We've gone against a tough opponent already this season and got the jitters out and already know what it's like to have competition. BYU has played cupcakes so they might be hit hard with a dose of reality early, since this is their first real opponent

I really feel that Maui is a great place to get the offense back on track, not dissimilar to the games at Fullerton last season in the Wooden Classic, small gym, high school feel, good way to make some shots and get confidence built. Looking back, I don't believe X really got it going until that first game against Charleston....who will step up tonight??

Classic Offense vs Defense . Could be who controls the boards and gets the transition points . Another challenge for a few of our guys on D , Shepard, Polee , Allen , Williams,.... or best defensive PG we have. BYU starts two guys at least 6'10" and has two more on the bench to replace them . Going to need a strong night from Spencer , Chol, JJ and ..... on the boards on both ends. May not hurt to throw a zone at them to kick start our offense into quick transition points for the Aztecs. BYU did give up 90 points in their win over Long Beach . Very important for the Aztecs to win and advance into the winners bracket , continue to play top teams and stay in the top 25 . This would be signature win for BYU . Would not doubt if the Aztecs play the key guys contributing as many minutes as the coaches see fit. Hope we use a lot of motion and make them chase us .

No zone unless we are down big & go with the 1-3-1. Our strength is our man to man d. I am not sure if BYU is athletic enough for us to have to worry about that (unless they hit their wide open 3's). If Aztecs shoot 40%+, we win by 20+. There will be no let up in the Aztecs. The boys will play hard for 40 minutes. And because of zylan & shrigley coming back, a player like Dakari Allen is going to play really hard so he can keep his playing time.

BYU can flat out shoot it from range. Think Utah State and you'll get the idea. The D will be stretched out, we will need to close out in the corners.
Oldie Out
