Feel like this kid deserves his own thread. Feel like Fisher should/will give him a shot to win the starting PG spot either in Maui or directly after, if our offense doesn't drastically improve.
Just watched the post game players interview - super mature and poised for a true freshman. We were told that going in, but it has turned out to be true. His shot looks better than advertised and he reminds of a young X Thames in his defensive intensity, offensive identity, and reserved demeanor. Like what I see so far and really think he's got a long, bright future being a primary ball handler and scorer for us for the next 4 (or less) years.

Agreed, Kell really seems to be playing passive and is a bit overwhelmed by D1 Size/athletes, I'm sure with experience he will improve but Zabo looks better right now.
Zabo looks like a little kid, but has the poise and character of a veteran. I watched the post game as well and I see why Fish signed that 3 yr extension. He wants to see these kids grow into their potential.
Want to see more Zabo, Kell, Pope, Shepard and Chol on the floor together. I feel the PG duties are hurting Kell's offense and Zabo has shown his natural PG skills.

Zabo had his best game so far last night and looks like a PG. He still makes mistakes but he is going to be a good one for us. Kell just isn't suited for that position and I think it is hurting his game. With Shrigs out we need Kell to be hitting some 3s, and it is easier to get open looks playing the 2.
F^^k Phil Night, FOX and the B!G. While we're at it, f^^k USCLA as well for all the years doing what they could to keep us down.
Kell should be behind D'Eryl in the rotation right now. He is the worst PG play we could have because he does not instigate ball motion at all. He is stagnant and a true "ball stopper" to the Carmelo Anthony degree which allows the defense to reset every time Kell gets the ball up top. He is like 0-10 on his slow drives through the lane with one handed clanks and shooting 12.5% overall. Defensively he is OK but still not in AQ's league.
With AQ and Zabo there is quicker ball rotation on offense, less hesitation/fear, and better shooting.
I want to see more AQ, Chol, and (especially) Pope. Less Kell, Spencer (looks worse offensively than last season), and Shep (who is thinking NBA Draft far too much every time he touches the ball.)
The offensive woes could be a problem with the rotation. The starting five has the worst shooting percentage in college basketball. 15%? Awful. Our five needs to be broken up. The group that gets the most minutes is not underachieving, they suck. Our main dudes are "a shot blocker with poor hands and subpar rebounding skills", a freshman 2 guard who is hesitant on his shots and playing out of position, a spot up shooter who is cold as ice and doesn't have a traditional 1 to feed him the ball for open shots, and two defensive stalwarts who can dribble a bit and rebound some but can't create for themselves or others or shoot the ball. How can that group struggle offensively? f x x x loyalty and break up the dream team. They all deserve big minutes but can't spend so much time together.
I thought Zabo was one of the brightest spots out there last night......He looks very confident and poised to me.
Yes, I thought he had a pretty good night. When he took a shot he looked like he expected to make it. He has improved each game he has been in. Maui will be a big test for him.

the reason Kell is playing point is because he doesn't turn the ball over and can shoot the 3 ball... The problem is Trey is not a creator so there is no rhythm when he starts the offense... The ball stopper moniker is a little harsh
Just give Trey some time, maybe I'm watching a different game but he looks like the most talented PG we have. Unfortunately he's missing open Shots that he normally made in high school(Everybody is missing open shots right now actually). With his size and shot creation ability, he's going to become a Star once his shot starts to fall. It's just gonna take some time for everybody to figure out when to attack and get their own shot.
Nothing new here guys, we start the same way every year. Yes we are missing more shots right now, but Fisher continues to build and grow his teams to be ready by March, not November. Be patient, there's a lot of new pieces, but by the end of the year we will have a awesome puzzle put together ready for domination.
Zabo played PG on CIA Bounce team , is a natural but is still learning as a freshman the adjustment to college ball . He is a very good passer who sometimes tries to do a little extra. Was interesting to watch as he was called for a foul in the last game , politely asked the ref to explain what he did wrong but did not confront the ref . he also spent all summer working with current and previous Aztecs. Kell is learning the most difficult position PG , he has not turned over the ball much but ,does not have good court vision to see numerous Aztecs who have been open on the breaks ., saw it numerous times last game . As Shepard learned last couple of years PG is not easy . Coaches should let Kell move back to his natural position SG , Aztecs need a 3 point shooter . Try Zabo with the Red Team : Spencer, JJ-OB , Polee, Shepard then Black Team Chol , Allen ,Pope , Kell (SG) , AQ /Williams at the PG
Coaches also may want to help the offense out by ,tuning up the offense , more movement by all the guys without the ball, QUICK SHARP PASSING , less dribbling , more sharing of the ball and less one on one , with less ball screens style offense . MOVEMENT and PASSING .
Spencer has been doing what he is best at D , blocking shots but also get him involved in the offense helps'
Also try the zone D to kick start the offense , creates a lot of steals and transition points with easy lay ups.

15%? I didn't realize it was that high. Right now, these guys would go broke trying to win a Kewpie doll for their girlfriends at the Del Mar Fair.

You are right there is little new here. We have two seniors and two juniors with three returning starters. This is their game. Missing shots is an ongoing theme not some strange occurrence.
I like Zabo and Kell and they are going to be huge parts of the team but to me right now AQ is the starting PG. This team is deep though and lots of opportunity.
The team has been playing as predicted by Zeigler in the Spring . PG will be a battle all fall , could be shared by a few of the guys . When your PG is inexperienced you will run into difficulties until the SG's and SF's start knocking down shots- has not happened . Way too many threes . The team may take a while to get it all together . Same thing with the coaches using 10 players, think it will pay off in the long run but takes time. Shrigley was very streaky last year and started off the season the same way. Maybe adjust the offense with more movement with the guys with out the ball , more passing and then FINISHING shots , slam the lay ups and follow your jumpers. Our guys are very athletic , use that to our advantage , keep moving and make them chase us around the court, we are 10 deep. Very frustrating to see nice moves to the basket and little AUTHORITY and making sure it goes in. Let the guys down low know you want them involved and get them the ball. The ball screen , setting up X , was last year , need a different approach this year . Do believe Zabo has the best potential when not trying to do too much as the PG , and Kell should go back to his natural talent Scoring at SG. AQ has the experience When he plays under control , sometimes he also gets too excited or tries to do too much , (forgot to call time out before he got tied up and did not move/ pass the ball because he wanted the foul shot in the Utah game) We are not seeing open guys .
