After 16 years of the reserection of Aztec Basketball, when will SDSU honor Coach Fish with his name on the court? Heck both Steve and Mark deserve it. Thank you Steve for all the great memories, past present and future. Aztec4life

The word is "resurrection" and no Mark really doesn't deserve it.

The word is "resurrection" and no Mark really doesn't deserve it. Thanks for the spelling lesson. Now here's a reading comprehension lesson: Inference. The OP wasn't suggesting that they name it the Steve and Mark Fisher Court. As part of the Fisher family, Mark certainly does deserve it..

Mark Fisher will definitely not be included on the naming of the court.

They should just call it "Coach Fisher Court" or "Fisher's Floor" or something... so it includes all the Fishers

It will one day be Steve Fisher Court. No doubt abut it. As for Mark, I can see some part of the practice facility or team training room, film room, perhaps the locker room inside Viejas being named after Mark, as a tribute to his contribution to Aztec basketball and his unfortunate situation. But please don't hold your breath for any court or field or stadium to ever be named after an assistant coach.

From when this came up before... I think it happens after retirement.

Not sure where all this sharpness to point out that "Mark doesn't deserve it" is coming from but... personally other than a statue out front, i think there would be no greater tribute to what Steve Fisher has done here in San Diego, than to name the court after him and to tie in his only son who's been by his side. I love how Kansas State has named their football stadium the Bill Snyder FAMILY Football stadium. And he's still currently coaching there.
When you listen to coach Fish talk yesterday in his contract extension press conference, you really understand that he has built this Aztecs basketball program with the same foundation...his family. Time flies, Coach Fish is not getting any younger, and well, with Mark's condition, there is no time like the present. Just my opinion of course.

While I agree with the fact coach Fisher deserves the court (or something) to be named after him, in this day & age when everything is "sell-able" I do wonder if that'd happen? Unless someone is willing to pay for the rights in HIS name. That's one thing I don't like about today's commercialism of college sports. The naming of arenas, stadiums, fields, etc. are more around corporate sponsors & less around legacies. Heck, even meeting rooms in FOB's are named after alums willing to pony up some money. Hopefully we don't fall down that hole too much & do go with Fisher's Court (at Viejas), and not Qualcomm Court at Viejas Arena or something. Maybe it'll be Steve Fisher Court, sponsored by The Altmans, Jacobs or <Insert YOUR name here>?

1. The naming is already overdue. 2. Nobody is saying Mark should have his name on the court, but by honoring his father, it's also a recognition of his staff (which he refers to all as family) and allowing them to enjoy the celebration they all contributed immensely to (which Mark greatly deserves to be a part of).
edit: Is the coaching staff any less important than a "SDCCU three pointer"?

I don't get why they have to wait till he retires. Duke's court is called "Coach K Court" already. He's spent much longer there, but it still could/should be done before he retires IMO

He will get it but probably after he retires. He would rather have an NCAA championship at SDSU than a court named after him.

I think it should be done after he retires, or during that last year, providing he lets it be known that it is his last. Doing it now may carry with it a "hurry up and retire message". I know that seems far fetched but ..... it's possible.

From when this came up before... I think it happens after retirement. Plans will be made the day he retires. As Bill Walton would say, "LEGENDARY."

Sooner rather than later I hope. But that causes a pause: Does Don Coryell have any significant monument or structure with his name?
