no way is hoke coming back. He may have failed at Michigan but many schools would take him as head coach, some even in the P5 I'm sure. He isn't going to take a backward move out of michigan just to take an even further step back into an assistant coach's job at SDSU. If he takes an assistant position, it'll be in a P5 program. ? He has absolutely destroyed that football program in four short years when he had every possible advantage. No P5 program would touch him.

Both were terrible hires. Rich Rod because thinking that the Maize and Blue could become a spread offense team was really foolish and Brady because he was only two years removed from Ball State, whose entire athletics budget is about $6 million less than Michigan spends on football alone.

Notre Dame was his dream school and he eventually ended up at Akron. Ironically Akron was on the up & up before Faust took over, but he gradually drove them into the ground too. Hoke's fall may be at a desperate P5 school or one of the better G5 schools. I question whether he'll ever elevate above his next stop again. I think the embarrassment and anger he's now facing will haunt him for the rest of his career.

In Rich Rods defense he was on track with his timing and was fired before his fourth year the year he said he would begin to dominate. Hoke took over Rich Rod's 4th year players went 11 & 2 and it was all downhill from there.

You don't conclude a major hire (AD at Michigan) in 2 weeks! Michigan will likely name a new AD in May 2015 and he/she will start July 1, 2015. Hoke will announce his resignation after the OSU game and the university president will hire a new football coach before hiring the AD. No way it takes them that long to hire an AD. I guarantee they already have a short list of candidates and wouldn't be surprised if they have already been putting out feelers. The president is not qualified to hire a football coach. An AD will want to come in knowing they can hire their coach and any high-level coach is going to want to know who the AD will be before they come. There's a reason Brandon lost his job before Hoke.

Its a good read, and really gives insight to how one of the biggest, most profitable football programs in all of college football really screwed the pooch in how they handled the Lloyd Carr, Rich Rod fire/hire. IMO Rich Rodriguez was absolutely the right hire for Michigan. He basically INVENTED the spread and had that program moving forward. Michigan however, is just too big for their own good right now. Too much politics, not real football men in leadership, and when they threw out Rich Rod for Lloyd Carr's staffer (Brady Hoke) they really didnt know what they were doing. Brady is a good coach and will bounce back somewhere. But i dont see it as a HC anytime soon. He has been embarassed nationwide. I for one would have him back on the Mesa as an assistant in heartbeat. But i don't see either side even thinking about doing that. And it probably would be for the best if he didn't. Michigan bottom line, is just a HOT MESS.

They got in his way the entire time he was there and jumped on everything he said or did because he did not fit the traditional idea of Michigan football. Rich Rod's system worked very well in West VA and seems to be doing fine at Arizona so I don't think it was really reflective of his coaching ability.

In fact, I'll go you a step further. I think the guy's a great coach. But Michigan is ground and pound. Always has been, always will be.

They may have a tough time luring a top tier coach to take the job once Brady is gone. As far as Brady goes, I'd take him back in a second ( NOT a Rocky knock, I like him too.) and I think most G5 or lower tier P5 programs that need a builder would too. He's young enough to get another bite at the apple.

Michigan bottom line, is just a HOT MESS. I did read the book. Compelling. The President of MI is screwed up. Carr is a weasel. Brandon was in over his head. The alumni had the Blues and the Grays. Rick Rod got screwed by Carr and the President. I think UM has some deep soul searching to do before they hire an AD or a coach. They might be smart but no common sense. Hoke will do color for a year on ABC or ESPN. His is too toxic right now. He was in over his head also.

They've been doing a backdoor AD search on the down low since the Missagain AD committed his gaffe over a month ago. They likely have a very short list. They'll name a successor before the end of the fball season. The new AD will then hire the head fball coach, not the president. No AD would come to Michigan unless they had authority to hire their own coach. It's the single most important act they will commit as an AD. It's something they're going to have to live and die by. No way is an AD going to come to a school and commit to living and dying by a decision made by the AD.

Logically the new AD hire should be sooner rather than later for one very simple reason. He has to have input on the new coach to replace Hoke and the best candidates for HC generally are pursued early and off the table in a matter of weeks after the season ends. If you think back when Rich R was fired and Brady was hired the process drug out into January and the pool of available coaches was very slim. We should note that there are a few coaches who were with Brady here who will be looking for work and could be considered for a return here if positions come open. Also the hotshot OC there will be looking if Bob Toledo hangs it up. I think Toledo will stay but that is a question not yet answered.

Allow the university's athletic programs to drift of SIX MONTHS? Come on, there are not going to do that. I'm sure that Michigan will carefully consider the leading candidates, but there is no way in hell that they would not name a new guy (or gal) until next Spring. That would also mean not allowing the new AD to pick his own man for the crucial job of head football coach. Sorry, but I can't see how you could be more wrong. AzWm
