In the Chargers vs Broncos Thursday Night Football game, the announcers said that much like Marshall Faulk, SDSU was the only school that offered Ronnie a chance to play running back, thus that was the reason he chose us. I know this is true with Marshall, but is this also the case with Ronnie? I had never heard that before, and also felt like it undermined SDSU by inferring that the only reason a good NFL player would choose SDSU is if he didn't have other options.

I recall he had offers as a WR but he wanted to play RB.

By all means... let the announcers keep perpetuating the "... he only went to SDSU because they were the only team to..." if it brings us more players like Marshall/Ronnie!

Undermind?
Dude, did either of them play DB or WR in the NFL? One is blossoming into a starting RB and the other is a Hall of Fame RB. That shows SDSU had the ability to find talent when all others could not.

It could be seen it as ... only SDSU was capable of recognizing & developing the RB talent that was Ronnie Hillman -- while everyone else considered him to be nothing more than a WR

Yeah its all a matter of perspective.
Either way, with the emergence of Ronnie and others in the league, the mention of San Diego State only raises our schools cache amongst the nation. Hopefully the Cowboys can start using Escobar more as well.

I'm pretty sure KGB did just fine at his position both at SDSU and the NFL.

There's no such thing as bad publicity

Being a marginalized program (in eyes of the blue bloods and P5 conferences), these type of comments can make Aztec fans sensitive, defensive and touchy.
Don't worry, our day in the sun will come.
It's also my belief that NCAA influence extends into the Pros. Alumni "nepotism" can affect coaching/personnel decisions and players careers

Erroneous statement. True for Faulk....not for Hillman. Publicity is still good.

It seems like he ran the ball and also played WR in HS so that may be where the confusion lies?

People on this board are so negative. Why must the sky always be falling? Why must the glass always be half full? Why must Aztec fans always think we are under attack or being disparaged? We have a kid who chose to come here because we saw something other people didn't see in him, and he flourished, and he is now getting his shot in the NFL. HOW is that a bad thing to talk about? ?

Coach Kentera just said on 1090 that Ricky Williams' mom held onto San Diego States LOI for him in case he changed his mind at his signing day announcement.
But he was dead set on going to the LongHorns.
This isn't really relevant, i know...But i had to vent.
Being a Patrick Henry Alum myself, i wish our Aztecs had Ricky Williams those college years on the Mesa.
Imagine how much that would've continued the momentum of SDSU being a running backs school???

OMG! we were undermined! seriously people, every time someone mentions something that isn't 110% pro-aztec we ARE NOT being disrespected. another example of our "fans" and their case of little man's syndrome.

He would've been around the same time as George Jones. What a combo that would've been! But we've had plenty of SD County players that left town (running back in this case) that did well at other places. Rashaan Salaam, Ricky Williams, Reggie Bush, Terrell Davis, Marcus Allen, Damon Washington, etc. We can go on and on with all kinds of players as you know. Off topic but I just watched again the 30 fo 30 on The U and how they kept all of the Miami Dade County and surrounding area kids to stay home to play for the U. Imagine if we could ever do that ourselves. Man, what teams we could have...

If we only had Miami's cash and moral compass.

Oh man thats one thing i cant stand all the Pac 12 teams & what not who would literally have NO TALENT on their teams if they didnt have players from California! But Cali has a ton of players and theres enough to go around. I will say im glad to see some local kids making an impact on our current team. And on another level, SDSU may never reach the height of what the U reached in the early 90's but im very proud of the integrity our university has maintained in their football program. I applaud coach Rocky & co. Doin it the right way.
