Nervous bloguin.com/thestudentsection/2014/college-basketball-preseason-top-26-16-13.html288th in effective field goal percentage last year. I am really hopeful that this will be a great season. However, we lost our most efficient scorer. We held it together last year with offensive rebounding and a low turnover rate. Our defensive rebounding was average at best. Our offense will need to be far more effective as I don't expect to rebound as well nor to have so few turnovers this year.

Didn't read. No need to be nervous. We win with DEFENSE. Always have. Tighten up/

WS is the one who needs to tighten up. Hopefully he has Kawhi's work ethic and adaptability to become a good 3 pt shooter.

Too many pundits and fans think that offense is everything. I used to be one of those until I learned how entertaining great defense can be.
We probably won't have the one go-to guy on offense like X. We probably won't have the one go-to guy for rebounding like Josh. But, I do think that this team will score more and rebound more over all than last year's team. The scoring and rebounding will be spread around and not concentrated on just a couple players.

Good defense isn't hard to maintain. My AAU team was phenomenal defensively for years no matter who we had on the court because of the coach's schemes, the mentality that was drilled in us in practice, and how well conditioned we all were from ruthless practices. However long Fisher is at SDSU, we'll have great defense. I'm pretty confident it'll be just about as good this year as it was last year. X was great defensively but depending on who starts at PG (i think it'll be Zabo), he'll step right in and do a great job.
Defense is the side of the ball that you can control (as a coach) much more than offense. Offense relies on your players ability to make buckets and finishing on the plays you draw up. Defense is all coaching and schemes. Any player (within reason) can stay in front of another player on D if they're coached the right way. Plus, good defense creates offense

As the coaches have noted . The offense will change this year . The PG will be a true facilitator this year , not as much of a scorer. Would help the offense , as mentioned if the scoring was spread around, by more guys moving around without the ball and if they felt if they did move they would get the ball and an opportunity to shoot/score . Think there should be an emphasis by the coaches to get Skylar and the other guys down low truly involved in the offense . Last year it was ball screen and block shots . What teams in the MW can match up with Skylar/ Chol... if they are motivated to try to get open close to the basket for a slam or off the basket board and in for a lay up . Sure would increase our FG% , and fouls on their guys . Time to make other teams match up with our stronger taller players . If the guys down low are at least threats also opens up the floor for our outside shooters.

I think those are bigger momentum shifters than slam dunks, since any team can do those. But you need size and athleticism to pull off the ally oops.

Davis was a rarity as far as his rebounding skills. I do think Sky got out of Davis's way a lot last year on the boards on the defensive end.

Good defense can get you 7 possessions you wouldn't otherwise have had for a potential of 14pts.....how many games finish within 14 points? A ton! That's just a simple example. And if you really think about it, those 7 turnovers could equate to a 28 point swing. I love a good defense. Good defense always keeps you in the game.

I think the offense will be better, I'm far more worried about the rebounding.

Shooters have off nights. Defense and rebounding rarely do. We have players to improve our offense and as has been noted, coaches to maintain the defensive discipline. All the players have to do is want it. Our defense and rebounding will be sound.

Winston can be a big rebounder for the team this year, he has the ability and he will be needed. Hopefully he will also get his FT% up to 75% or better which will allow him to be a top scorer for the team. He should get many FT opportunities.

His two dunks a game were hella efficient. You crazy.

Points scored versus shots attempted is commonly used to define efficiency. Obviously, this doesn't account for situational differences in the shots attempted. Shots attempted as the shot clock expires, for example.
