I don't think those 5 will see the floor together all season.

Maybe they confused DA with Polee.

Here's the Oracle's guess what Fish is thinking. Don't think he knows who is going to start in a few positions.
Start of the season: PG: Quinn SG: Polee SF: O'Brian SF: Sheppard C: Spencer
End of the season: PG: Quinn/Zabo SG: Kell/Polee - Kell is probably good enough to start, but Polee will get the nod here. SF: Sheppard/Polee - We saw that Polee's game improved more than Shepard's last season. Expect the same this season. PF: O'Brian/Pope - A healthy Pope should enter the starting line up as soon as he is ready. C: Spencer
Here's the Oracle's non-political starting five.
PG: Quinn SG: Kell SF: Polee PF: Pope C: Spencer
Players are going to have to put in twice the effort and show tangible improvements to their game for minutes this season.

With my listed starting five at end of the season it gives fish his dream starting 5 and the versatility that resembles the fab 5.
I am concerned about zylan being able to contribute this year due to injuries.

Starting 5's are just silly.
The players will earn their time and as its all about the pivotal minutes in crunch time anyways.
Look at the Spurs.
They bring in the best 6th man in the game with Ginobili.
Lets not be one of those fan bases that is hung up on this, but rather the team as a whole.

Starters don't mean much compared to minutes played. I actually would like to see us go big with the starters setting the tone defensively with a full court man to man press that switches every ball screen. Intimidate the opponent and then bring in scorers off the bench when needed.
First 5 minutes of havoc: Shepard Polee JJ Chol Sky
First off the bench: Shrigs/Kell Derryl/Zabo Pope Allen

Remember fish started Heath as a true freshmen at pggg Wasn't Richie the PG? Or did Richie come 1 year after? I don't ever remember Heath at PG because before Richie there was Wesley Stokes, Deandre Moore, and Brandon Smith

I really hope that fish goes ten deep and truly plays 40 minutes of hell and literally opponents out of the gym.
I know he likes to trim down the lineup to 8 during tourney time, but this is the year that fish could really play some hellish defense that just stifles and wears down opponents into submission.
I really think we could have a large margin of victory for most games this do to the how deep this bench is.

The biggest question is not as much "who can play?" but "How are we going to play?" Is Fisher going to try and play on both sides of the ball of are we going ahead with defense and discipline. Last year, Thames, Shepard, o'brien, Davis, and Spencer gave us beastly defense. Despite Thames' otherworldly offensive play, we were a poor performing offensive team. We will not have a player like Josh grabbing large numbers of our misses. I don't think that we will have a defender as active and dominant as Davis was in his role. So, does Fisher go with defense and forget trying to play more efficiently on the other end?
My answer is that he goes with defense. We were hugely successful last year though we may have been playing over our heads for much of the season. We also got favorable match ups in the NCAA tournament. With out the ball dominant do everything scorer/facilitator/defender at the point, can we win with so many poor shooters on the floor? Last years success could easily be a trap for this years team. The idea that playing disciplined tough defense will be enough to get the team to the sweet sixteen and beyond is predicated on the idea that we can duplicate last year's defense, rebounding, and offense. If our offense is even worse this year, defense is played at a similarly high level ( despite the loss of Thames' and Josh's defensive prowess), and rebounding takes a dip; this could be a disappointing year. I hope to see huge improvement from our returners this year. I hope that our Newbs live up to and even surpass the hype. To be truly successful Fisher will really have to juggle the lineup to figure out what works on both sides of the court. We will need a more balanced team with a diversified group of scorers to accomplish what many of us are hoping for this year.

Shooters are going to have to shoot. I don't think Fisher cares if they miss, as long as they take the shot when they can. This didn't always happen last year, particularly for threes. Shooters are going to have to take the initiative to get themselves open and take shots this season or I don't think they'll see much PT.

They bring in the best 6th man in the game with Ginobili. Lets not be one of those fan bases that is hung up on this, but rather the team as a whole. The people who play the most minutes for this team matter most, Obviously, those are the people playing defense, getting rebounds, scoring points, setting picks, getting steals, and blocking shots. To have a great scorer and distributor like Ginobili coming off of the bench and thereby play less minutes than the players on the starting unit, the starters must be able to score and create looks for each other. Having one of your two best players coming off the bench is a luxury that can rarely be afforded in college basketball. First, the player coming off the bench has to have players on the starting unit that duplicate his skill sets and do so at a similarly high level. Second, the starting unit must be able to score efficiently despite having one of the most talented players sitting on the bench. In baseball it is great to have a dominant closer. What do you do if your best relief pitcher is also your best starting pitcher and your best hitter? Do you still limit his role to crunch time? If you aren't at least keeping pace with the other team, there is no crunch time.

Zeigler asked Fisher about the S5 at the PC yesterday and has an article in the UT today .(he actually attends practice- plus talks with Fisher, so has a good idea who it could be). Coach said he has a good idea who the S5 will be but there is still a lot of practice remaining and will not reveal who it is . He also said the S5 could be fluid this year , X and Davis are gone so there could be different combinations or match ups he wants to try . Will not toss a starter under the bus this year for 1 bad game but there are more quality players 1-13 on this years squad so more players are going to play and there may be less players playing as many minutes . As mentioned who starts is not as important as who is in there at crunch time and for particular match ups . Want to play , you also better play D .

Remember fish started Heath as a true freshmen at pggg No he didn't. Although he did start Brandon at shooting guard. Wesley Stokes was our point guard when Heath was a freshman. Richie Williams started at PG from day 1.
