Noticed that only six of the starters and eight of the first and second teams were starters last year. That is a telling statistic, particularly when it comes to the skill players.

Our o-line is really impressive for its youth.
Anybody know if Fely or Largent are going to get medical redshirts? I think Fely already got one, can he get another?

Judge seems to have some chronic minor injury which has been limiting his play. Since Holder has been playing pretty well, maybe it's time to just elevate him to starting WR.

Largent will be back in a few weeks from what I hear. Can't recall, didn't Fely already get a 6th year or was it 5th? If 6th, then no. Latest I heard is he's questionable to play in next 3 weeks unfortunately.

I do not expect Fely or Largent back. I would push for a medical for Largent rather than play him two or three games. I think he came here from JC without using a redshirt.

I do not expect Fely or Largent back. I would push for a medical for Largnet rather than playy him two or three games. I think he came here from JC without using a redshirt. I do not expect Fely back this year. time for Fely to hang it up, or switch to safety. He has already shown that he is not durable enough to last a season playing linebacker.

Call me crazy but I'd rather have the all conference LB stay on the Mesa than hang it up

Mr. Heyward will be seeing more PT. #2 in the rotation. I like that group there.

He already played two full seasons at MLB. You think Fely at 6-1 230 wouldn't have broken his foot last year? He'll be our leading tackler most games whether you put him in at MLB or Aztec. Regarding his eligibility...2015 will be his 6th and final year. I think JJ plans to petition for 2015.

If my dull mind remembers, Fely had a neck injury. Don't think it would matter if he were 6ft 17, 275lbs, with a 30 inch waistline, a serious neck injury is a serious injury and nothing to fool around with. As Matt the hat sez though, what do I know.

You're correct, but if it was threatening they wouldn't have let him get this far. They would have told him to hang it up when it happened, or shortly thereafter.

Seems like a slam dunk given his history, but oddly he was only talking graduation & next phase of his life stuff at the season opening luncheon, and Rocky was talking him playing at the next level next year. Would love to see him back though - would be a HUGE add.

This depth chart can't be right. They've left out the following key players of New Mexico:
Desolation
Boredom
Geiger Counter Readings
Dust
Or do I have that confused with Fresno State?

I found the following requirements for obtaining a "medical hardship waiver", NCAA Bylaw 14.2.4:
(a) The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school. (b) The injury must be a season-ending injury. (c) The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season. (d) The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.
Meeting all requirements gets a player "an additional year of competition." I see nothing specifically capping the amount of "additional year(s)," meaning its arguable this waiver can be granted continually. Though its probably interpreted/applied as a one time thing. There's also the grand five year rule, maybe that plays into it as well?
So no Fely. I believe Largent meets (a), (c), and (d). If he's eligible to come back in a few weeks, no (b). Sucks. I wonder if this stuff is like personal injury cases, where the school shops around and hires the doctor who will say "so and so is done for the season," with a little professional leeway, so somebody can start over the next season (medical documentation required to establish above requirements.)
Yes I'm a nerd.

I'm sure Largent might want to try his hand in the League. And while Fely isnt really on the NFL radar, you can't knock the young man for pushing forward living out his dreams. Imagine if Whitaker gave up on his playing career years ago?

I would never knock a kid for wanting to live his dream. I encourage everyone I meet to go for their dream, you only live once, don't have any regrets. However, listening to all these former College, NFL, players talk about life after the game... I would preach to any athlete that plays a contact sport, to be smart and listen to your body. If you keep getting injured, there's a reason why. That reason is usually that your body is not made for it. Not many are.

Dude has crazy instincts as a player. And yeah, i'm glad Whitaker pushed thru. That kid is all heart too you can see it.
