I'm anxious to see how he shows during the AAU circuit this summer against top level competition. I have my doubts about how his style would fit into our system, but it would be nice to have a power, back to the basket guy that we can pound it down to and get guys in foul trouble. As long as he can play our aggressive, rotating style of defense, why the heck not?

Aztecs are going to need at least 1 if not 2 guys that we can Sign that have ability to play down low and solid D . Be it Cage has visited , Kone - who also visited last year and has a solid motor , Stanback , or .... ? As we can all see the PAC schools with all the newer coaches are doing a very good job of recruiting , plus Gonzaga . Next 5 weeks of AAU events should give a better picture of the recruits interests and the Aztec coaches . Visits usually Sept thru the first week of November with early signing 11/11 -11/18 .

I stated a couple of months ago, I REALLY like Kone. I agree with an earlier poster that said he seems very under appreciated.
Good size, great motor, tough, strong, not a freak athlete but good enough athlete to bang on the boards at both ends and finish strong. I could sort of see him in the mold of Josh Davis with better coordination and tool kit on O.
When I've seen him play, he does so with relentless effort, I think that is contagious with the rest of a team and very valued by Fish and staff.
I really hope we land him, also seems like a good kid and a good fit both on and off the court. I think he's a winner.

Yea, I'd love to get Kone + either Cage/Stanback, and then Bailey or someone comparable, but do love Kone's passion for the game.
However, listening to an interview he did a while back I have to think Cal has the inside track. He's very much a bay area kid, much in the mold of Rabb. That Oakland Soldier blood in him. Hopefully I'm wrong.

CAL has really come on strong recruiting ,as have other PAC schools plus Zags, especially in the Bay / SAC areas , that we used to be able to get guys from . not going to be easy to get Kone , Cage or Stanback .. also the quality SF/SG Bailey that we need .

Cal was only strong this year due to the fact Rabb wanted to stay home, which led to Brown joining him. Had Rabb not wanted to stay home & gone to UA instead Cal would be the same ole mid tier team w/ mid tier recruiting. We'll see Martin can maintain that momentum. Definitely a lot of talent in the Bay area. Luckily for them Kone is also very east bay oriented.
If Ayton is like Rabb then we become world beaters on the recruiting trail. Only takes one to turn the tide.

CAL does have some decent players coming back to add to the new better talent . Yes they did sign Rabb , and sometimes quality recruits try to add more quality recruits . The guys on the All Star teams talk and do try to recruit each other . As Fisher says guys on your team are your best recruiters , since guys believe those guys even more then the coaches doing the recruiting . Fisher /Dutcher used that in recruiting the Fab 5. As of today CAL has moved up in the rating is rated a top 25 for 2015 . They have been using it on the recruiting battles already for 2016 . Does put them in a much better position then they were in just a few years ago . We will see if it works for 2016. As we all know it all boils down to the results you get during the early signing time in November and then the one after April .
Of course if we can sign Ayton ( 7 ft center ) top HS player in the country for 2017 . We would move into a much better situation , but it sure seems that we are not at the top of his list . Will be a battle of the Blue Bloods but maybe we can convince him to give us a solid look . He is playing at Balboa Prep ,here , but not sure that staying in San Diego is a priority . Even signing McCoy would be great , believe he may still have us on his top 6 but again the better he performs in AAU events the more Blue Blood college offers he gets . That is why 2015 season is very important for the Aztecs . Results plus the opening and use of the JAM Center to develop players. Why getting as much good publicity nationwide about the JAM center could help the recruiting.

Why does it feel like the same people regurgitating the same stuff over and over in these threads? Oh ya, cuz it is. I know it's theoff-season and we're bored, but geez, people, let's hear some personal opinion, not just a rephrase of what we can all read on any recruiting site. Juuuuust my 2 cents. Carry on.

What is it with some of the D-Bags on this board complaining about what others post? Just don't read it if it bothers you so much. Good Grief.

We'd love it if Ben would commit asap to the Aztecs. This team needs players with his effort and tenacity.

Same here, I think Ben Kone would be a TERRIFIC Aztec. He looks like a great fit for the team, and I think the team/program would be a great fit for him.

Every now and then I'm reminded that relatives of players and recruits come and read the stuff posted on this board. And I shudder.

I don't have the link on me but check out an interview Ben did about Cal. SDSU isn't mentioned, but just listening to the kid speak makes me want him as an Aztec. Very intelligent, genuine, and has his head screwed on right. Wherever he ends up, I'll be rooting for him to have a long and successful career.

All true, but I'll root for him a whole lot more if he's in the Red & Black...

Still feel CAL has become a strong school when it comes to recruiting , especially in areas where we used to dominate .We will be fortunate to get another quality guy in the front court besides Narain . Be it Kone , Cage or .....? hope we can land one . We lose a lot of the guys up front after 2015-16 season . All three starters Spencer, Shepard , Pope and Chol . As of today Narain , Zylan , BJ are not proven college players .

Zylan may not be a proven College Player yet, but I think that guy will end up being the best player out of that stellar class which included Pope. The guy is an off the chart athlete. I go to almost all of the Aztec games, and show up 45 minutes to an hour early and every time I see Z sinking 3 pointers or making monster dunks. As good as Polee was, Cheatham will be better.

Per Corey Evans on Twitter:
@coreyevans_10 "Would say 5 best stock boosting 2016 bigs at Peach Jam..Kevin Marfo, Cyril Langevin, Eric Curry, Ben Kone, and Bruno Fernando"

Thanks for this comparison... I hope you're right. I love Polee's game and if Z is at that level I'd be very happy. If he's better, then its another Sweet 16 run.
