Its pretty remarkable that the last 3 seasons the Aztecs will have had 4 different starting quarterbacks. And each year a new QB comes in under dire circumstances mid-season, and every time they get the job done and we are off to another bowl game.
First Dingwell replaces Katz, then Kaehler replaces Dingwell, Now, Bawden will replace Kaehler.
I would say its a pretty good job by the QB coach Sipe in making sure the backups stay prepared and ready if their number is called. Its just the following season that doesnt seem to translate and these random injuries come about. Hers to another fine coaching job for Sipe and hopefully a change in luck to our QB position. We will see...

Katz injury was on a scramble if i believe correctly. He was a really good runner so that was always a risk. Dingwell's back was pretty much a freak nagging injury, and Kaehler who is pretty immobile in the pocket also has been a nagging injury i believe. I think our line does much better than most out there so i wouldnt put it on them. Just a freak set of circumstances if you ask me.

I will remind you of the terrible O-Line that lead to many sacks last year ... an aggravating factor for injuries. They are playing better this year, but Oregon St was not a good game for them. Similarly, WRs not running the correct routes can cause a QB to have to hold a ball longer than anticipated, increasing the odds for a sack, scramble and/or injury. Yes Katz was mobile, as was Dingwell -- it was a highly desired quality for as many times the plays broke down and they had to scramble.

If WRs can't get separation, they can't get open and catch the ball. Otherwise the QB has to eat the ball and get hit.
Oldie Out

Yeah maybe running a pro style offense-instead of a fast paced spread-might affect it too do you think? SDSU's offense calls for a drop back/pocket passer, so it really requires a solid o-line to protect in those play action plays. But nonetheless, the point is that Coach Sipe has done a fantastic job getting each guy up to speed and performing very well.

I agree that coach Sipe is doing a good job as QB coach -- in bringing up the O-line & WRs; I was more or less responding to the QB injury frequency as not fully the fault of the QBs Coach

Not been easy on the offense with is it 4 or 5 OC's in the last 6 years ? I would wonder who is the lead recruiter/ talent evaluator for recruiting QB's at SDSU ? HC,OC, QB coach ? Dingwell , QK , and the guys who have walked away ? Is that the best we can get at SDSU ? Understand we are not going to get the 4 or 5* star guys that are going to PAC schools but sure seems as though , we are not at the same level as even some of the MW schools . Maybe Bawden and J.R. will change that and we can create a reputation as a QB school . It is the most important player on the squad .

I believe getting Bawden and Rodrigues is the product of consecutive bowl appearances and being a solid program now. But i agree, i dont know why SDSU has not been a better QB destination in the MWC.

SDSU finally has some stability at the coaching positions. When Rocky got the nod as HC, his acceptance speech didn't include a dream job exit strategy. Rocky's acceptance featured his choice to return for the players and program they, as a team, were turning around- "to finish the job they started". SDSU's stock is improving with this stability, SDSU will continue to get better and we are witnesses to this transformation. The transformation from a SOFT team will include better QB's ie Bawden and Rodriguez. Next man up is Bawden.

I hope that SDSU can become a place where QB's want to come . Will see what happens the remainder of this year and then in 2015. We are not going to be even a MW champ without a high quality QB. Being stuck in the MW hurts , so winning MW , bowl games and even playing on a NFL field all help in recruiting . I do not know who was in charge of recruiting then training QB's but it has not been something we can even brag about in the MW .Until that becomes a major priority we are not going to be considered a major program anywhere.

Improved quality and depth on the offensive line. If you can't protect a QB, they won't come here. Simple. It all starts with the O-line. Rocky loves a big, powerful o-line. Oldie Out

Agree , after the QB , you need to get an OL that can block, good footwork,.. . Passing or running if you do not control the line none of your skill players will shine. Do not know who our OL coach is and what people think of him.? Not sure who we have as 2015 OL recruits?
