If QK's record is 10-5 as reported, that's a .667 winning percentage. A lot goes into both winning and losing, but not many Aztec QBs in history have had the success winning that he has. He has done the best he can, he doesn't get paid for it, he does it for the love of the game and the love of State and State football. That's all we can ask.
As told before, he was told "no thanks" to even being on the team as a freshman, he left to go the JC route at Diablo Valley CC back near his home in the Bay Area, and when he was done at DVCC, he came back to the Mesa to the program that rejected him once prior to try to walk on again. There determination, hard work and focus, he deservedly became the starting QB. This guy is a GREAT success story and is an Aztec for Life. Great heart, leader, winner and Aztec. Let's keep that in mind when the temptation to speak less than positively occurs.
Thanks to the OP for reminding many of us of this. Hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for Quinn.

I greatly respect and appreciate all that Quinn Kaehler has done and will do as an Aztec football player. He wanted to be an Aztec coming out of high school but was rejected. He reacted by going the community college route and doing all that he could to prove himself. He showed up on Aztec Mesa and was well down on the depth chart, but continued to work hard and distinguished himself by studying and quickly learning the playbook and the intricacies of the offense. When Adam Dingwell failed, the team came to Quinn and he carried the program on his shoulders turning the 2013 season into a success and according to the paper was 10-5 as a starter. During the offseason, he underwent elbow surgery and rehabbed as well as he could in order to get back on the field and lead his teammates. To those who want to harp on his arm strength or instances of poor decision making, I would remind that you remember he was the best we had and continued to work hard despite injury, to be the best he could be. He has hung in there and often taken a beating as well as the blame despite young and inexperienced receivers whose failure to properly or completely run their routes sometimes resulted in incompletions or interceptions. He was ijured more than once Saturday night, but true to form, he continued to hang in there, finally suffering a shoulder injury that has taken him out of the lineup and leaves uncertainty as to if or when he will be able to play again. In the meantime, I feel certain that he will do all that he can to mentor and help his replacement Nick Bawden get the job done. Quinn Kaehler is a true Aztec who has done more than enough to earn our collective appreciation, respect and best wishes for a quick and successful recovery from his injury! Thank you Quinn! eloquent commentary, but dude will be back in a few weeks.

I sure hope that this is not the (football) end for QK. The kid deserves better, but such are the fortunes of a football player.
We will always remember how the determined walk-on saved the '13 season.
Thank you and get well soon, Quinn Kaehler.
Go Aztecs!

I hope you are right, but as someone who had surgery this past spring involving the AC (acromioclavicular)joint this past spring and will have another in a few months, I'm pretty concerned about his return, evne if he is "just" dealing with a sprain/strain as these can be slow in healing. Keep in mind that we are now four weeks into the season and even if he gets back by the 7th or 8th game, most of the season will be over and it will be difficult to win his job back if Bawden develops and performs adequately. In any event I really feel for Quinn and appreciate what he has done.

Well, the general tone of this board has certainly changed toward QK. Did it take his getting injured to bring about this change of tone? If so, I call it sad.

Well said Zurac. We've got so many naysayers on this board who want to do nothing but criticize every little thing. I get so damn tired of the same idiots who have nothing but negativity and criticisim for whatever any Aztec does. If they can do better sthen get oust there and do it instead of hiding behind some phony name on this or any other board.

QK. Get well and thank you for the good job you have done. The Aztecs are very respectable now and you are a main reason. Again, thank you.

Well, the general tone of this board has certainly changed toward QK. Did it take his getting injured to bring about this change of tone? If so, I call it sad. He's no longer the STARTING QB. Everyone knows the most popular guy on the team is the back-up QB - he's lovable now! : ) There's nothing wrong with criticism, especially when it's the QB. He gets & expects to get the most flack, as he should also get the most kudo's when it's a job well done. Unfortunate those who prefer to always be negative only fulfill half that part of the equation. QK has come a long way and is a pretty decent QB. We're going to miss his experience & accuracy, but do hope he's back in a few weeks! Now let the negativity toward Bawdin begin, even if he does well (or does Ok in a win). Hopefully people are realistic & realize he's a FR who will make a lot of mistakes, as all FR QB's will. Perspective goes a long ways.

You're talking about perspective on this board? You are starting down a slippery slope. Perspective is a gateway term. What's next - objectivity? Reality?
Just say "no."

The difference here is that the only expectation is that Bawden perform better than Kaehler did(not really a huge order). The expectation with Kaehler was that he perform better than he did last season (i.e. improve from last season, not digress). You be the judge after Friday. Individual mileage may (and will vary).

We'll see. QK had a AQBR last year of 45; this year it's 36, but really impacted by just 1 horrible game (OSU - 15). Take away that performance & he's doing the same as last year, but you also have to factor in that he's missed a lot of camp due to injury. Hopefully Bawdin surprises, but luckily he's facing a BAD defense. Personally, I'd rather have an experience QB for conference play, especially in this conference, than a FR. You simply need someone who doesn't make a lot of mistake is play adjustments & decision making. If Bawdin can simply avoid TO's he'll be doing his job.

I have different expectations for college athletes than I do professional ones. Though at times I have been guilty myself of getting upset with a college player… i.e. QK throwing the pick at NC, my disdain quickly subsides when I remember we are talking about an 18-21 year old that wants to win 100 times more than I do. And remind you, I want to win bad… from my couch! Sometimes I think people forget that these are kids playing football and that we really can't be surprised when they make mistakes. Screwin' up is part of the deal when you are a "kid"!
As many people have said in this thread…. He loves being an Aztec, he works hard and represents our team and our university well. He is a better than average MW QB and I am glad he is/was our QB. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he gets back on the field soon. If Bawden takes the reigns of this team and goes crazy… That's great! Thanks QK for your leadership. You have represented us well.
With that all being said… I don't think we have seen the last of QK. And yes, when he comes back, he will probably make some more mistakes. And we will all keep watching and cheering for him because he wears the red and black and that is what we do… Go Aztecs!
