But when the AZTECS suit it up they can can go toe to toe with their opponents, unlike what I saw tonight! 12 to have a basketball team. 85+ for football.

Trey Kell was the only legit D1 basketball player in the county. 40+ legit D1 football players in the county... 3 to 4 scholarship handed out each year for basketball... Football hands out 22 to 25 scholarship yearly.. If you do the number game recruiting in football should be easier...

Its the current moment we are all thinking about. It hurts. You are bleeding Red and Black right now. The economy is not recovering like everyone thought so massive investment in schools like it was will fade. Kaehler just has no arm. But he plays hard. If you can't stretch the defense you put too much pressure on the running game. Losing Ruffin was big. He is the leader on offense and runs great routes. That being said I am NOT impressed with alot of teams in the P5. I watched the Kansas State - Auburn game and saw two teams that were supposed to be all that and they were really all nothing. Ugly game. Overall I am not impressed with College Football. Where are the Marshall Faulks? The Barry Sanders? Darren Woodsons? Actually I am down on football period. Its lost its luster. Really the only player I enjoy watching is Gore from the 49ers. He still plays the game the way its supposed to be played. I am proud of San Diego State Basketball and Viejas rocks. Best sports program in the history of San Diego. In the last 10 years only Arizona State with James Harden and the good Arizona teams of late have dared to come to Viejas and play the Aztecs. Now NO ONE would dare come here because its a LOSS now. The North Carolinas, Dukes and I guarantee the Kansas Jayhawks don't want a game scheduled here. They are afraid of SDSU basketball. Take solace in that. I watched the UCONN game the other day again. We should have won that game. Mistakes is why we lost. We could see Kawhi, Jamaal and Josh Davis play together on the Spurs this season. Kansas is coming next year

moronic absolutely moronic. you recruit three four players a year in basketball, twenty five in football. Basketball does not have BCS situation football does. This thread is one giant non sequiter. I root for the Aztecs in every sport but i am just not a basketball fan. This is NOT true, Basketball will start to see a big gap too. When P5 schools start to pay players above the scholarship, then SDSU will be at a disadvantage. NCAA basketball will change dramatically but it will be a year or two behind football. Watch.

I wonder if the NCAA, when approving autonomy considered the consequence that it will perhaps kill the cash cow of NCAA 65 team basketball tournament..no more Cinderellas in a couple years. BUMMER

this thread is a failure on many levels, but I will just point out a few ...
perspective ... are you seriously saying that the Aztecs are in any sort of recruiting battle with all 325 D-1 teams in basketball? Those numbers need to be re-assessed, there is no way we are losing recruiting battles to Sac. State, Del. St., UC-Irvine or So. Alabama
In a similar manner, to compare the recruiting of 5 players per year in basketball that play both offense and defense, to the recruiting of 25 football players per year that are (for the most part) specialists at their positions is another false equivalence.
Finally, for whatever self-serving reason anyone is trying to use one sport to tear down another at SDSU fails to see the big picture and really doesn't understand that we rise and fall as one. Duke gets it, North Carolina gets it; both schools have great basketball histories and programs, yet where are they currently investing their money and energy ... Football. Meanwhile, where are all those storied basketball programs with no football teams? Gonzaga, Creighton, Butler and the VCU ... they are parked at Mid-Major with SDSU.
Both sports have a ceiling, and that ceiling links the two. No amount of infighting will change this fact. If SDSU wins a National Championship in basketball, what really changes for us? We'll wake up the next day and still be a mid-major.

I think we're OK as long as the limits on scholarship limits stay the same. The P5 can take only so many players. It make change some specific individuals, but I think the over all quality available to us should remain about the same. We are already at a disadvantage in recruiting due to facilities, TV, reputation available in the P5. One more disadvantage shouldn't matter too much. If, however, the P5 can take 5 more players for each school then we may be hurting.

Why would fellow Aztecs hate or ignore the basketball team? They are what is giving SDSU national attention right now, it's just football season now and football makes your school and is the supposed "money maker". Heck, when I'm sitting in some bar in Baltimore or DC in March with my flip flops, shorts, and Aztec ski cap on, like a true San Diegan, everyone knows about Steve Fisher and the Aztec Warriors but no one knows SDSU even has a football team and that Marshall Faulk even played at SDSU and should of won the Heisman over Gino "assistant manager at Home Depot" Torreta. Congratulations on the promotion, Gino.

I have never seen a SI or ESPN top 2000, but maybe I missed it. The top 100 are way better at MBB on average than those 2000. Of the 85 scholarship football players, to have a real good team, 70 better be top players. MBB 3 to 4 need be at the top.

Wont argue this discussion... To have a bcs level team you only have to be two deep at certain position(OL, QB, and Def Line)... The recruiting from MBB to football is light years ahead... When the last time we signed ESPN top 100 player in football out of high school. I can name you the top 50 in basketballl? ( Evan Burns, Kawahi Leonard, Winston Shepard and Malik Pipe) Plus I help out with many high school sports camp for both sports... Most of the kids usually say, " man i would like to play for Coach Fisher." Never have i heard anything close to that for football... I will say some of the kids and parents did really like Coach Hoke energy when he was at SDSU... Both Tom Craft and Chuck Long were bad at public speaking at high school camps... Coach Rocky Long isnt any better as at times we get the feeling he wants to be somewhere else. Recruting is the life line of any college sport...

Arguing about the relative difficulties between recruiting in basketball and recruiting in football is just another way to argue the merits of each's position in SDSU athletics' hierarchy. I think anyone who legitimately thinks one is "easier" than the other is dumb.

Love basketball! A season ticket holder Since Cox/Viejas opened. Also, love college football. An Aztec Season ticket holder forever. However, should football be allowed to go away, my Aztec Club donation will be reduced drastically!
