Bottom line: AZTECS need to beat the Reser Stadium Rodents!

More bias than an east coast paper.
I certainly agree with the QB, other than that, we match up better than they advertise.

Not too bad of a review. Don't think he's saying their "running game" is superior, just they have better/more talented RB's, but given he gives us an edge on the line I'd say the running game overall is probably a push. The difference is they give SDSU's D-line the edge, so in terms of running success - edge to SDSU. I think you have to include "push" into the equation, as well as differentiate big vs. small edge. Here's how I'd see it: QB: BIG edge to OSU RB: Push - both teams have 2 very talented backs OL: BIG edge to SDSU WR: Slight edge to OSU > Offense overall: SDSU has edge in running game, but OSU has huge edge in the passing game. Despite very good talent in SDSU's LB corp, I think the difference in this game will be Hamlett & their other TE, who are extremely dangerous. If they get hot early they open up every other aspect of the OSU offense. SDSU MUST run the ball effectively, but more importantly has to make the OSU LB's nervous against the pass to keep them honest, or the running game will suffer. DL: BIG edge to SDSU LB: Edge to OSU (experience alone; we'll still make youthful mistakes, which they minimize) DB: BIG dge to OSU > Rocky's a better D-coach IMO, so we may be more effective at scheming, and we have an edge on the line. However, their back 7 makes up for a (currently) weak line. Ultimately, it's strength vs. strength. SDSU strength is running - in theory OSU's weakness is on the line. SDSU's weakness is secondary, where OSU's strength is passing. Comes down to who executes & more importantly who makes the fewest critical errors. For instance, if we INT Mannion that's a huge turn of events (big OSU advantage vs. weak SDSU position). We'll need a few surprises. ST: Even - who thought we'd say that? Overall, OSU is a better & deeper & more experienced team & should be. That said, if SDSU plays like last week but is even in the TO dept it should be a very good game & we could pull the upset. Mannion definitely gives them a clear edge though, overall.

The X factor is Reser Stadium and that crowd. That's a beast of a place to play, and our guys must not let it be an issue or we will lose -- and lose badly.
The game at Carolina was a "wine & cheese" crowd. Very tame. What goes on at Oregon State is a bunch of folk come in from the thicket after a week of settin' traps and stillin' for a trip to the "big city" to let their hair down and take a bath.
Throw in that annoying chainsaw sound on 3rd down they pipe in at high volume, and the hicks in the stands get themselves some exciten'.

More bias than an east coast paper. I certainly agree with the QB, other than that, we match up better than they advertise. The games are won on the line and we have the advantage on both side. Mannion will likely try to hit his 2 giant TEs a lot since he shouldn't have time to throw deep. We have to stop those, especially on short yardage situations.

In big games... and until proven otherwise... I believe Aztec games are won/lost on the 6 inches between QK's ears. Let's get a victory and move past the UNC debacle!

SDSU dominated most of the game last year. They got major pressure on the QB. I expect that is going to happen again.

BIG PLUS Oregon State saw no screen passes and NO passes to running backs against Portland State Hawaii only completed 3 passes to RB Iosefa and he is a huge guy so not the best screen candidate. Pumphrey is a different story . Kaehler has an EXCELLENT screen disguise and throws a good screen pass LIGHT THEM UP
