So the Aztecs aren't a part of Hispanic heritage? No, they were a pre-colonial nation, like our Native American tribes, hence my comment about them being no more Hispanic than Apaches are Anglo. Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards
Interesting.
It seems to me that it was the mixing of Spanish and native cultures, including the Aztecs, that created the Mexican culture. Mexican heritage is certainly our largest Hispanic group. So, it seems to me that the Aztecs are a part of Mexican Hispanic heritage.
As a side note, if I remember my history correctly, the name "Mexico" comes from a native word that was actually pronounced Mesh-ee- co. Spanish has no sh sound, so the pronunciation was changed to Meh-ee-co. So even in it's name, Mexico is a mixture of the new and the old world.
Go Aztecs! (whether part of Hispanic culture or not)

Everyone acts like there is some secret untapped fan base that hasn't been marketed to before. If I'm not mistaken these same Hispanics drive the same roads, know Qualcomm Stadium as where the Aztecs play, see the same billboards, graduate from the same SDSU. I challenge you to attend the the largest Sdsu Hispanic student associate and invite them all to your tailgate or game. Let me know what the turnout is. Also, how many here would attend a Tijuana soccer tournament or mexico national team game at qualcomm. More Hispanics attend mexican exhibitions at qualcomm then 3 aztec home games combined.

Is this a knock on Aztec marketing in general or specifically on apathy towards the Aztecs by the Hispanic community?

I am watching the Auburn-K-State game on ESPN and on the crawler they are putting a tilde over the "S" in San Jose State. Does anybody know what that is all about? I don't recall that ever being done in regard to San Jose State.

Go Aztecs! (whether part of Hispanic culture or not) Talking Hispanic, not Mexican or Latino for that manner. Hispanic, the Spainish equivalent of Anglo. That's all I was saying, see the OP. Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards

Assuming that Hispanic refers solely to Mexico/Mexican is asinine. Hm ... was it an assumption on my part? It could merely have been an attempt at easier imagery than to have said "Do you think they celebrate Anglo month in Mexico, Central America, South America, the Iberian Peninsula and various islands and archipelagos around the world where Hispanics are the majority?". It may have been a response to the idea that Hispanics are represented on TV for those that are willing to put up an Antenna to catch broadcasts from across the border (Mexico). Last I checked, Iberian Peninsula is composed of Spain and Portugal (both are European). There's a history of hostility between the peoples of the IP and the Anglos of the Isles (GB) [Also European]. Therefore, it is highly doubtful that any such celebrations will occur on the IP. The only imagery you painted was one of assumption.

Here ya go. Brought to you by an evil American corporation. www.directv.com/international/en_espanol?ACM=falseIf you're too poor to afford Directv and live in SD, you can put an antenna on your roof and get about 10 stations for free. Not defending the idiotic "Anglo Month" comment but your post is nearly as asinine. LOL! The far right with its industrial strength lunacy has once again graced us with its presence and stupidity.I could have bet the house on it. You completely (not a surprise) missed what I was trying to convey, afan. You are as adept at comprehending postings as Jose Canseco is at reading fly balls. How cute that you don't think I recognize the mangled Gramsci in your silly little post. You're old. The times have passed you by. Your entire worldview has been obviated by technology and societal shifts. Young "Latinos" don't watch TV any more. Most kids don't watch TV. But if they do, they don't have to sit and watch American content, generated by Americans for an American audience. They can turn to any of the dozens of Spanish language content providers on distribution networks all over the country or more likely, stream what they choose. Life has passed you by. You're as relevant as an 8 track tape. Go away and stop embarrassing yourself with your vintage commie rhetoric.

Every one complains that we do not get more fans to the Q for SDSU football . All I am saying is this is an opportunity that should be marketed even better then it is now . It is a vibrant growing part of San Diego County . Reach out to people go to community leaders, Alums and ask them what SDSU can do to make it happen . Enthusiastic fans would be welcome in the Q cheering on the Aztecs . Expand and embrace new Aztec fans , get them excited about SDSU football . We have tried a lot of things to get fans in the stands , not always successfully, why not reach out and encourage people in our community to be part of SDSU . ? If we want 40,000 people at the games , where do you think they are going to come from , people from San Diego County , to me the Hispanic people are great sports fans that I would welcome cheering on the SDSU Aztecs . So if you have ideas that could make this happen great , if you prefer to define or debate Aztec , Hispanic , Mexican ........... then start your own thread , this one should be about encouraging/ welcoming a good section of San Diego to becoming enthusiastic SDSU football fans . This does not just happen by billboard or media , it means establishing a personal connection with people . Tickets for SDSU may be a bargain but they still cost money , no one owes it to attend a game you earn that .

As to the plethora of assumptions and profundity of idiotic posts on this thread as relates to false equivalence regarding the need for an Anglo heritage month in the USA -- to balance out Black history month & Hispanic Heritage month ... I am actually surprised at how seriously you are taking the torts and replies on such an inane topic. Of course Spain does not celebrate Anglo heritage month, we've hated them for far too long (particularly in Zaragoza where my family is from). Nor does England (or the rest of the UK) celebrate Hispanic heritage month. Both Black history month and Hispanic heritage month are celebrated in the United States for a reason. Perhaps someday in the future, when "whites" are no longer a national majority and represent roughly 1/3 or so of the total population, the minority-majority will grant them a "white history" month or a "European heritage" month.

I'm taking it as seriously as your are. Hispanic is a US term taken and corrupted from it's original meaning. I do think it should not be wrong for white people to express white pride. There's a significant difference between being proud of being white and being a white racist. Racists come in all colors, cultures and ethnicities. While there are no general "European Heritage" months on the calendar, there are definitely many Euro-heritage pride festivals. E.g. in my city of Pasadena, there will be a Greek Fest this weekend celebrating all things Greek and Greek-American. Next city over, Glendale, is hosting an Armenian festival next month. There are Scottish pride fests, Irish, German and other Euro-heritage festivals that I've seen. Is having a month that usually just flies over that big of a deal??? I will end by saying, that I enjoy your postings. You're one of the better posters on here. Fair with your points.

I will find the problem to be the idea of pride. I personally do not believe the idea behind a Hispanic heritage month (or a Black history month) was pride based, but instead to change the perception of minorities in America. Events like the Greek Festival and the Scottish Pride Celebration seem centered around not losing total touch with the ethnic culture of those peoples in the melting pot that is America. It is a dangerous proposition to confuse a Scottish or Hispanic heritage celebration with "Latino" or "White" pride.

SDSU has 1 home game during Hispanic Heritage Month 9/27 ,sure would be great if the SDSU administration would make it an event at the Q , try to unite a good amount of people from San Diego County to rally - cheer enthusiastically for the home town San Diego State Aztecs .Could be a great event for all to enjoy and learn from each other . How do we increase attendance for the Aztecs if we do not reach out to our fellow residents . There are too many issues ,as we have seen that cause division ,what could be better then getting a good size crowd of people out at the Q all uniting to cheer on the Aztecs . Any way we could work together to make this an enjoyable event for all > Could bring a lot of needed enthusiasm to the Q . Is there any one that does not think the Aztecs would not really appreciate the fans and the excitement that could be added . Great Fans that SDSU needs now

We need to reach out to all Aztec fans, or possible fans, and get them to join us. Divide and Fail - Unite and Conquer. Go Aztecs!
