The purpose of the thread is : there is an opportunity to expand the fan base for the SDSU AZTECS by going out and welcoming people to come watch an Aztec college football game . Time for people to get to know each other and enjoy our various cultures here at a San Diego State football game . Love the enthusiasm the fans bring and a win win for all. The Hispanic people continue to be a major part of the San Diego community and hope that SDSU is part of it , but SDSU should go out and make all feel at home in the stands . Could really add to the cheers , maybe add some additional ones to the Aztecs . Bring some of the spirit of soccer fans to the Aztecs . If you want to debate the Latino/Anglo issues please start your own thread . Aztecs could use all the excited fans we can earn .

There's a wide array of nationalities living in this city. Where do you draw the line at marketing efforts? Then there's the fact the marketing department can't put together a coherent campaign for the general populace in the first place. Given that, who's leading this proposed marketing charge into the S.D. Hispanic community? Put another way: What if we set up something celebrating "Hispanic Heritage Month" at a game...
And nobody came.

Free Aztecaritas for all… Par favor, I can only squeeze so many limes at once! However, you can send everyone to the T&M in March and I'll do my best!

To those of you blasting my post of Just wondering..... when is Anglo Heritage Month??? Yea thats what I thought...
Here is my issue. I have nothing against these little recognition things i.e. Hispanic Heritage Month, Black whatever its called month in Feburary, Teacher Appreciation Week, Groud Hog Day (Don't want to leave out the critters of the world) yada yada yada. But ya'll know good and well if there was a Anglo or White Heritage or Appreciation thing proposed all hell would break loose and the minority activist would have a $#!+ fit and start marching the streets to protest it happening.
These minority groups and activast groups on one hand say they want "equality" and there should be no color barriers (I agree) Blah, Blah Blah, but as soon as something like an Anglo version is mentioned they protest and have a fit. I know this from fact. If they want "equality" why in the hell do they make these recognitions in the first place, is that not making divisions and separating the races and groups in the first place. Basically doing what their against to start with. Very idiotic.
Ask yourself why is there a Black Congressional Congress, but not a White (Anglo) Congressional Congress Why is there a Miss Black America Pagent, (there use to be, not sure if they still have it) but not a White (Anglo) Miss America Pagent Why Is there a Latino Music Award, But not a White (Anglo) Music Award Why is there a Black Trial Lawyers Association, but not a White (Anglo) Lawyers Association In San Diego County there is a Latino Police Officers Association, but not a White (Anglo) Police Officers Association There is a San Diego County Filipino Employee Association, but not a White (Anglo) San Diego County Employee Association Why is there a NAACP and not a NAAWP or NAAAP
...and before ya'll start crying I must be racist Blah Blah Blah. Wrong again, I'm Hispanc myself.
And to prove the above about not allowing Anglo groups or Association or pagents here is a prime example. A few years ago there was a group of white police officers in a certain state. They figured since there was a Black Police Officer Associations and a Latino Police / Deputy Association in and around their jusridiction why not form a White (Anglo) Police Officers Association. Knowing they would probably face hurdles they got ahold of the local Black Police Officers Associations bylaws and adopted theirs word for word and only subsituted Anglo in place where Black or African American was in the bylaws. It was presented to their local jusridiction to form their Association. Word on their attempt to form their own Anglo Police Officers Association got out to the local NAACP Chapter and the NAACP responded by saying it would be racist and pitched their routine bitch. Blah Blah Blah. Needless to say the local jurisdiction caved to the pressure and shot down the attempt to form. Some of the officers who spearheaded the effort suffered damage to their career for their attempt and involvement in the effort.
...and again to those who think I'm racist. Wrong again. For one I'm Hispanic. Secondly I'm a retired Deputy Sheriff (25+years service) and know the above Anglo Police Officer story above is real life. To me what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong. Nuff said...

Thought we were looking for ways to expand the fan base . This would seem to be a natural. There should be a connection between SDSU Aztecs and the Hispanic Communities . The Marketing group could reach out to SDSU grad Councilman David Alvarez / other Alums , believe the radio station has ties plus TV , community leaders, restaurants ( R. RUBIO) that would all want to make this a successful event . Instead of carnival night create a Fiesta ,music , dance, celebrations, make it fun for all and add to the enthusiasm inside the stadium as well , with more enthusiastic cheering fans . You ask what happens if no one came , can only add to the numbers who are currently attending games . Believe everyone would like to make it a great event

Here ya go. Brought to you by an evil American corporation. www.directv.com/international/en_espanol?ACM=falseIf you're too poor to afford Directv and live in SD, you can put an antenna on your roof and get about 10 stations for free. Not defending the idiotic "Anglo Month" comment but your post is nearly as asinine. LOL! The far right with its industrial strength lunacy has once again graced us with its presence and stupidity.I could have bet the house on it. You completely (not a surprise) missed what I was trying to convey, afan. You are as adept at comprehending postings as Jose Canseco is at reading fly balls.

No need to put the word "white" in the (white) American Music Awards because judging by the winners of best songs it is clear who this show is directed. Same for the Oscars. No need to put the word "white" into the Republican Congress...99.9 percent of the time all you have to do is look at the representatives to come to a conclusion...I can go on and on...but you should get my point. The reason most minorities put the title of their ethnicity in their titles is to distinguish themselves from the overwhelming whiteness of this nation in culture, media, entertainment, politics, etc. For you to write a whole diatribe on this issue means you may have color arousal issues that you should seek help to overcome. What's it to you what people want to call themselves, group, association or organization? I've asked this before...how can a person who has race challenges possibly root for the school's football and basketball team?

It would show SDSU reaching out beyond its walls for support. This, they do. Outreach. Outreach. Outreach.

Did you not complete the reading comprehension part in school. 3) Such a weak argument I actually have to laugh at that one. When I was over seas during my miltary days I always answered "American" when asked what backgound I was. Those that need to title themselves to feel good about themselves are the ones that need to seek the help to "overcome" their color arousal issues that you suggest. Again reading comprehension problems??? ...I'm Hispanic Let me know when you find that "white is implied" evidence. That is a funny one. Gonna reread that one again when I need a good laugh.

So the Aztecs aren't a part of Hispanic heritage? No, they were a pre-colonial nation, like our Native American tribes, hence my comment about them being no more Hispanic than Apaches are Anglo. Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards

Simple point - Think the SDSU Aztecs need to expand their fan base and a great place to make that attempt would be with the Hispanic Communities . SDSU needs to reach out to a variety of people and why not make it a SDSU football game . A fiesta style pregame and half time - fun event for all . Great family entertainment . There are numerous grads/alum that could help make this a great event . AD needs to go out to the communities and try to earn fan support. For those who want to debate the social issues please start your own thread .

speaking of asinine ... do you think they celebrate Anglo Month in Mexico? Assuming that Hispanic refers solely to Mexico/Mexican is asinine. Hm ... was it an assumption on my part? It could merely have been an attempt at easier imagery than to have said "Do you think they celebrate Anglo month in Mexico, Central America, South America, the Iberian Peninsula and various islands and archipelagos around the world where Hispanics are the majority?". It may have been a response to the idea that Hispanics are represented on TV for those that are willing to put up an Antenna to catch broadcasts from across the border (Mexico).
