Don't sleep on Fresno, they can be good, they just aren't at the moment.

Don't sleep on Fresno, they can be good, they just aren't at the moment. With the way we played at UNLV last year, I would hope that the team doesn't take any game lightly anymore

I'm no Fresno fan, but it's unfortunate that they have dropped so far. We need to win a strong conference to get attention and recruit against P5 schools. This doesn't help. That said, we better beat them in Fresno! Go Aztecs! We will never recruit against P5 schools, those kids are not in the "market" for a school like SDSU. Kids that choose P5 schools know they will have to sit a year a 2 as a backup, but the lure of playing in front of large raucous crowds with great tradition in big games and bigger bowl games is worth the time to wait for play time. We recruit kids that are just a step below the elite. We target the kids that want to prove they are good enough to play in the P5 conferences but get overlooked due to the sheer number of recruits to the available spots. SDSU can't offer tradition, large crowds, huge campus support, huge fan support, but SDSU can offer a chance to play in your freshman and sophomore seasons as well as get on TV to be seen. SDSU's only hope to getting highly rated recruits is to offer them a chance to play a position they want where the P5's may not play them....(see Marshall, Nebraska and others were recruiting as a safety, SDSU said he could play his desired position of RB). Additionally, encouraging kids to believe playing at SDSU can get them in the NFL if they work hard is the recruiting model. We do not compete for recruits with the P5's. We compete against the rest of non-P5s. It's a waste of time, money and resources to chase kids that are targeting P5s. We want the kid that wants to play in his freshman year and will work his tail off to do so.

We want the kid that wants to play in his freshman year and will work his tail off to do so. We definitely recruit against P5 for 3 star level kids and could start recruiting some 4 stars if we continue to improve. 3 star kids have interesting choices: maybe go to a upper P5 (if recruited) and probably not play much; go to a lower P5 and not have much of a chance for a winning season/bowl game; or go to an upper G5 and have a chance to play, win, and go to a bowl. SDSU has a better chance of making a New Years day bowl (access bowl) than P5 schools like Washington St. have. Plus, we are on TV a lot (gotta love CBS Sports) and get a reasonable number of kids drafted into the NFL. Not every kid that is recruited and/or plays for a P5 school is elite -- we will prove this when we beat OSU this week. Go Aztecs!

I just can't shake this nagging feeling that the fresneckians will play us tough. I have watched every one of their games and it really doesn't seem to be a lack of talent, more like they a lack of focus and leadership. No one in San Diego wants to win in fresneck 89-0 more than I do but I am still a bit leery of them. And well you should be.

We will not have a chance against the elite of the p5. But don't forget there are a lot of dogs in the p5 that I think we can out recruit.

The only way we will be able to recruit against pac 5 for elite kids is if we are in the pac5, or have a legendary coach, both would be better.

If the Aztecs do not defeat Fresno this season, I doubt the Aztecs ever will. I have watched Fresno play forever and I have seen a Fresno State football team play more poorly top to bottom. An example; a punter who kicks 9-yard punts. Fresno players are slow of foot and slow of mind. If there is one bright light, it has yet to be found. .....running is an effort, tackling is a stranger, passing is a guess, catching is what others do, blocking is for basketball, focus is for camera's, execution for the electric chair and discipline for the 3rd graders.
How good are Fresno coaches this season? I have no idea....haven't seen one yet.
Yep, SDSU lose to Fresno would not say much about Fresno, but it would say a ton about SDSU.

I remember the early '60s including the "Fog Bowl." Some schools have always caused us some problems, Fresno State and Long Beach State being two of them.

[/quote] Yes, Fresno and SDSU games have always been interesting. Especially now that my daughter lives in Solana Beach and her sister-in-law and husband are big-time Aztec donors. They are typical Aztec arrogant about it when it comes to Fresno, but I accept it as "comes with the territory".

That said, we better beat them in Fresno! Go Aztecs! So, why are you guys so worried that we won't be able to beat Fresno in Fresno? Their coach, Tim DeRuyter, came over from a P5 school, and he has done as well if not better than Pat Hill. Because we are long time rivals you can bet they will give us as tough a game as they can. But, with our strength we should be able to beat them without the problems we have faced in the past two years playing them. I have confidence in our Aztecs they will get the job done. I believe....
