Realize Thompson is probably off SDSU's radar (although still listed on some sites), but there had been a bunch of chatter here previously about him (& Tinkle) & OSU, so thought I'd post the latest. (Note: couldn't find previous thread) If Hinkle can convince his son, as well as his assistant's son Thompson to go to OSU that's a program that will turn around very quickly. They have a couple other good recruits coming in for the weekend as well. BIG couple weeks for OSU. www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/08/drew_eubanks_3-star_recruit_co.html

Both signed to play for their dad's at OSU today. HUGE day for OSU basketball; program changing.

Now if they can only find some more "assistant coaches" to pay a million dollars a year to come coach for them so they can essentially pay the players (through their dads)...
This seems to be the legal loophole to sign players to big money deals at the college level...

The 4 players they have for 2015 aren't close to the 4 we have this year and the supporting cast ain't close either.
In fact, I wouldn't trade the 2 we have for next year for the 4 they have.
But for them it is a nice step up.
They just got news that Cameron Oliver, their best 2014 recruit, will not enroll. That leaves them very thin at 4/5 for this year.

Agree I like our 2014 class and about the supporting cast but I'd take those 4 anytime anywhere. All solid players. Love tinkles game and would take him over pfluegar and I like that kid as well. bottom line is this put Osu on the map and will make them competitive with most of the PAC.

Those are 4 SOLID recruits. ALL of them. Two very good underrated players IMO (PG & Big), and 2 super studs. Right now they have the edge over our current class, and believe they still would even if we land Pflueger. Yea, we'd probably pass on the PG right now given our roster make up and lack of space, and if we land a EA or even keep for a transfer I'd say the recruiting classes would be a wash. That said, it doesn't make their recruiting class any less impressive. It's the best OSU has landed in decades, and they've landed some very good players (just not coached well). Plus, I'd much rather see these kids land at OSU than at Vegas, USC, Cal & others. Kudo's to Hinkle & staff for landing the low hanging fruit. They're going to struggle this year but I'd love to see OSU surpass Oregon - not sure it'll happen, but they're getting closer.

The PAC keeps getting stronger , they already have at least 5 schools that have higher rated 2015 recruiting class then ours and could all finish strong in the PAC in 2015 and could easily be near the top of the MW

I think this entire..hire the dad to bring in their kid's players is setting a dangerous precedent. Just too fishy and unmanagable by NCAA etc. Universities are PAYING the dads to coach/recruit. Just don't like it and they way they are "justifying" the proces. The Memphis deal is super skeptical. JMO

The NCAA set rules in place that prevent schools from hiring unqualified relatives and stashing them in BS positions. Lawson played in college and was a high school head coach--not exactly a truck driver. We tried to hire Rick Brunson, an alum of our program, who played 10 years in the NBA, coached in the NBA and college, and people still called it fishy. I dont have a problem with what OSU did at all.

I hope Alford's kids play 40 minutes a game; keeping better players on the bench.
Oh, and I liked Trenkle's kid.

I dont have a problem with what OSU did at all. Me either. OSU didn't hire their HEAD COACH based on his kid. Thompson could be perceived as a little fishy being an assistant (& another kid on the way up), but he's coached at the college level & is a known quantity. It's not like they are guys who only coached their kids AAU teams on weekends & earned $40k as a truck driver & got the job solely on their kid. Plus, they'll earn their pay with the lousy record they'll have to put up with this year, and until their kids can mature on the court.

Thompson Sr was the head coach at CSULA in the CCAA a D-II bus league and went 126-120. Ethan Thompson was a freshman on the Bishop Montgomery team that won CIF this year. I aßusme both kids will follow dad up to Corvaillis.

Lonzo Ball when he arrives. Ball will definitely start and has good chance to be 1 and done. He was putting up triple doubles in AAU just coming off HS sophomore season, baller.
