As long as the PG (Zabo or D) can get the ball to the scorers, break down a defense, don't turn the ball over, have good court vision and shoot the ball were good. We relied too much on X and Jamal to do it all the last two years. We have better distribution this year. I am concerned with WSIII handling the ball too much. He loses focus, JJ isn't the answer, Kell an option? I think Zabo can be they guy. He has killer instinct, D'Erryl looked slow last year and couldn't hit a shot.

We relied on those two because others really didn't step up offensively. This year we should have more scoring options. We don't need a big scoring PG. Your first sentence made me laugh (to myself), you say "as long as", as if you are listing the minimum we need from our PG and then list everything a great PG does. We will likely start two players who need a PG to create for them - Polee and Spencer. Hopefully whoever the PG is, they will be able to get the ball to them in positions to score efficiently.

It has been mentioned often the coaches are looking for facilitator at PG , distribute the ball -passing or on the drive , play D and not turn over the BB . Very similar to what X did his junior year . Will not need to be the shooter scorer x was last year . Both KZ and DW were natural PG 's in HS , a position that is not easily mastered . PG battle could last through the early part of the fall . Starting line up no one knows and there has been little word out of SS sessions . Aztecs will play their normal easier games at first before a quality game against Utah ,on ESPN 11/18 - . I do not think who starts is as important who is out there at crunch time . Yes you try to start your top 5 guys but you also learn that certain guys can come off the bench and be your spark at the 16:00 mark . With at least 10 quality guys will be important for the guys to know they will all get an opportunity and to go all out when they are in there. The coach may also try a variety of starting line ups to see what works the best . We really have so many questions at the start of the season that may not get resolved until later . Basketball is a game of combinations of the 5 guys you have on the floor . If your PG is distributing the ball and your C and PF are controlling the boards , it frees up your scorers SG and SF . If you get additional offense from the PG, PF and C it adds to the offense . Some one not doing their job on D or offense and you need adjustments or hopefully in our case keeping 5 fresh guys in there to continue both D and offense all the time . We could easily be 10 deep this year with a lot of guys getting PT . Playing as a team and for the W keeps a lot of people happy .

I'm not worried about PG. Fisher has a good track record with whomever takes the role recently. Williams to Gay to X to _________. Zabo looks like a safety. He's huge! If he ends up the guy, I can see him using that size to an advantage like how Mark Jackson used to do.

It appears that the lad already has an NBA ready body. An Aztec version of Ruben Douglas would be most appreciated.

Who do you think would be the best group to match up with Arizona if we played them ? Also Utah ?

Who do you think would be the best group to match up with Arizona if we played them ? Also Utah ? You mean if Arizona happens to make the finals The best lineup tends to be the best lineup for any team we face. If teams don't match-up it is hopefully our opponents that have to adjust.

I think Kell can win the minutes at PG. Having Shepard at SF allows a score first PG. Shepard can create for others and should be enough with Kell to run the Aztecs offense. Kell adds a lot of offense that neither Zabo nor Williams can match. If not as a starter Kell can get backup minutes at PG, but having Shepard as SF is important when he plays there. Having a real PG is more important when Skylar plays then when Chol plays. Mixing and matching lineups will be an interesting part of the mix.
Mix Kell in with players that can create for themselves.
Kell Shepard JJ/Allen Pope Chol
Mix true PGs with players than need some help getting good shots.
Zabo/Williams Shrigley/Quinn Polee Cheatham Spencer

I'm hoping that ALL of the incoming freshmen play much better than their HS national rankings and that Zabo turns out to be the best of the bunch. I want the press to be moaning about how Fish stole another great player from under the P5 noses. Hmmm The NCAA National Champions - were not from a P5
chill with the P5 ref's for basketball

As the coaches have continued to say the PG will be a facilitator , not as much of a scorer as last year . Will also need to avoid TO's and play D against the other team's PG . Zabo,a natural PG, is in the mix with others . Who wins the PG or what guys share the responsibility will see as the fall practices continue . This year the team is deep , more guys may play especially if we go 10 deep and minutes get divided up .

Zabo looks like a little tank already! Makes the others look out of shape! Let us hope the BB skillset matches the bod. Let's go Aztecs! So many great possibilities this year. Cannot wait to see how it all unfolds. November is right around the corner. In Fish I trust!
