He was kind enough to list SDSU as his back up local school but has visited his family favorite Indiana multiple times and other BIG schools . Also has UCLA and Arizona who gets the best guys who want to play in the West as local school . Plus Duke, Florida , Texas . Will be more interesting to see if he includes the Aztecs in his final 4-6 schools . Do not see it happening .

Consider the local buzz and that he is local.

I've known TJ's dad for a long time and IMHO what happened with the recruitment of his brother is not going to be THE determining factor on whether he selects SDSU or not. His Dad played professionally in Israel and coached at Steele Canyon before moving on to Foothills so he could coach his boys when they got to high school so knows the game. He is savvy enough to know that early recruitment of kids doesn't always pan out - sometimes for the kid and sometimes for the school. I believe the quality program that Coach Fisher and crew have developed speaks for itself and if that is the best place for him, then that is who he will select. kman out

Had the Aztecs known then that little TJ would sprout up to be 6'9" with the skillset he has, the staff might have tried harder, or tried at all, to retain Troy and talk him out of decommitting. I watched Troy a handful of times in HS and you would often see his little bro hang around and shoot, etc - he did not at all seem like he would be anything remotely close to where he is now. He was a scrawny middle schooler with a decent outside shot back then. Looking at Troy and his dad, you would not expect TJ to grow to be 6'9"-10ish.
Not saying that this would have influenced the staff one way or the other, but if TJ was a nationally regarded middle schooler, as some kids are at that age, the Troy Leaf situation might have been handled differently. That said, I would love for the Aztecs to land the kid but missing on TJ Leaf will have absolutely zero effect on SDSU's success moving forward. He is not a program changing talent.

The family have been up front they adore Indiana - their dream school other schools are safety ones for them. Bill Walton had UCLA . Chase B Arizona . Aztecs coachers know this and are looking at other options . Next ..

I respect your opinion, but I don't think Fisher would have done anything differently with Troy Leaf. Knowing him, he was always upfront and honest about the situation and did not make any promises. You can't blame Fisher for going after the best talent out there. The fact TJ is even considering SDSU supports my belief that Fisher handled the situation as well as any reputable coach would.

Nothing is certain or obvious in college recruitment. Kids and parents all have unique issues and desires, you can't truly know what's a leading factor. Perhaps it is tradition and program prestige, perhaps it's a sense of family. Playing time, exposure, location all are in a Chinese menu of possibilities.
Who knows what he values? The school may also recruit other kids at his position that sour him. One doesn't know. Finally, a leader today may not be so appealing tomorrow.

The Hoosiers signed a very good PF from NY yesterday to help teach Leaf how to play the position.

I'm sure that he wants to meet Pope, Cheatham and the guys. Likely will be playing some pickup games with them.

Refresh my memory: Was Indiana in the Sweet Sixteen? Or ND?

The Hoosiers signed a very good PF from NY yesterday to help teach Leaf how to play the position. Holt is sixth freshman in this year's recruiting class. Crean already has signed James Blackmon, Jr. and Robert Johnson, both guards, forwards Max Hoetzel and Tim Priller and center Jeremiah April. (Wouldn't this take minutes from LEAF when he comes in as a freshman in 2016)

I assume they would make room for TJ, but perhaps he wants to stay in So Cal.
