www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/jul/22/sdsu-football-mountain-west-preseason/I'm increasingly surprised that the media generally are higher on the Aztecs than the evidence of player experience would indicate. But, of course, it all means nothing now. Also, I may have missed an official announcement but Tod Leonard is the official beat writer for football replacing Stefanie Loh. Tod is an SDSU guy, a native San Diegan and, I think, may get a little more candor out of Rocky than Stehpanie was able to. So, I think the beat is in very good hands. Tod will still be writing golf and his expertise there is unquestioned. I hope he is as prolific as she was in terms of sheer volume of stories.

If Stephanie Loh is out as the Aztecs beat writer, that's too bad! I thought she did a very good job while she was following the team. As far as Rocky being more candid, you must not have listened to Rocky being interviewed by any media person. He's pretty short and concise with everyone.

Ms. Loh did a great job and I hope she's move up, not out.

+1 Loh brought SDSU to new "highs" in the UT. I liked her in depth reviews and the way she examined the programs "outside the box". Oldie Out

I agree re Stephanie Loh - I loved the sheer number of solid reports she put out, as well as much of her analysis. Is she still with the U-T?

If he is going to cover, I only hope he does 1/2 as good as Stephanie whom set a new standard.

Some guesses . Another cutback at the UT . Did Rocky and Ms. L have some kind of disagreement during the Hot Potato Bowl last year . I too enjoyed her writing . Sure would be nice if Rocky let his coaches and players out more with the media and even more so out with the community , especially now during the summer . Would also be a thought to invite the media/fans out to attend practices . Those relationships help increase the fan base .

Stefanie Loh - July 16 at 4:58pm · Hi folks, wanted to let everyone know that we've reorganized roles at the U-T. Tod Leonard will be the Aztecs football beat writer for the season. I'm moving into a role where I'll do more sports enterprise, and also function as Aztecs and Padres blogger. So, I'll still be at all home football games, and will be writing some Aztecs content but Tod will be traveling to road games. That will free me up to do some other stuff, but I'll still be part of our Aztecs coverage team. Tod will also be at Mountain West Media Day next week. I'm currently on a sabbatical but will be back for the season.

Nice to see this clarification. I, too, am glad Stefanie is still around and will be contributing. She is one fine writer.

Ms. Loh did a great job and I hope she's move up, not out. Troot. I found her Aztec coverage to be accurate, complete and (entirely) enjoyable, and I hope to see her work continue to be published in the U-T.

She had interesting choice of words . " .... I 'll be doing more Sports Enterprise... Writing some Aztec content .....Free me up to do other stuff ... On Sabbatical back for the season ... "

She had interesting choice of words . " .... I 'll be doing more Sports Enterprise... Writing some Aztec content .....Free me up to do other stuff ... On Sabbatical back for the season ... " I read that to mean that the U-T is trying to beef up it's social media profile and she will be heading up that "enterprise" for both pro and college football. She will still be writing some regular content so as to keep her "journalism cred". Finally, with NFL pre-season kicking off before the Aztecs season ... this would be the last chance she has for any kind of break. I believe anything longer than your allotted vacation time is considered a "sabbatical" or fancy talk for "leave of absence". *of course I could be wrong on all of this.

What I really liked about Stephanie was her objective writing. I sensed she told it like it was. I don't know about this Tod guy, but I hope he doesn't write with rose tinted glasses. If he does then I expect we'll see Canepa beefing up his articles to balance it out.

I agree with you on Loh ... she comes from outside the area and was really objective about how she saw the Aztecs. Re: Canepa -- No, just no

I actually called Larry Graham and left a message about Stefanie. He called me back a few hours later. he concurred that he was very pleased with her writing and coverage. He did use the term "sabbatical" and said she was clearing up some personal issues and he hoped she would be back by the start of the season. He was non committal about whether she would come back as the beat writer for the time being. I had e-mailed her last season telling her how good a job she was doing and she responded by saying how much fun she was having.
So I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

From all the hard work she's putting in, I wouldn't be surprised if her "sabbatical" was comp time (and a raise). Oldie Out

Blogging in other MLB markets might be a good job but here in SD it seems like a demotion. She covered Aztec football better than anyone I can remember.
