Some info on Abdul Shanun , also from Ghana . Played HS in the New York area before he came out to San Diego - Balboa . Noted for his length , jumping ability and over all Athleticism . Best part of his games is his D , really enjoys swatting away opponents shots , boxes out well and likes to hit the boards . Raw on offense. Gets most of his points on put backs and monster dunks. Reminds me of Josh Davis. Some stats in 19 games,as a sophomore , 4 PPG, 8 RPG,4 Blocks . Think getting him and Aflakpui would be great. Combo of Shanun and M.Cage Jr down low in 2016 could be awesome .

As E.A . has noted most visits are un official . As he is learning about the process . Wants to make sure he gets the opportunity to actually talk to the players and coaches at the schools he is considering . He is in no hurry to make a decision . Would guess if Coach Ku is still mentoring him ,at least keeps the Aztecs in the picture . Another visit to San Diego would help . If you are going after quality recruits you can expect other schools to be in the chase.

Nothing beats San Diego weather, its much better than Philly, New England and New York year round. Have the kid come out to visit PB or La Jolla and show him the new BB facilities!

Have the kid come out to visit PB or La Jolla and show him the new BB facilities! yes! the tried and true "weather is a recruiting factor" line. smh I agree that things like weather and location are overrated when people talk about landing a recruit but at the same time it would be silly to completely discount the huge advantage we have by being in a great city with amazing weather. Of course things like Coaching Staff, Style of play, Chemistry with possible teammates, getting players to the NBA, etc... are generally going to be far more important to most recruits. Weather, city, and co-eds can certainly play into the mind of a 17 year old kid and become a factor. Here's a quote from Malik Pope before he committed to us: "I would have to be around my environment, because I'm a warm weather guy," Pope said. "I hate bad weather. I like LA-type weather and Miami and San Diego. That kind of weather is nice."

There is little doubt every recruit has a variety of different aspects of things that are important to them . Do think that being part of a major program with quality coaches , players , facilities and proven path to the NBA are high on the list for most quality recruits. A.E , who is living in Philly now , has already stated that it is important for him to have a solid relationship with coaching staff and team mates . He wants to evaluate that in person ,with the visits he will plan out most likely late summer or in the fall , with no rush to make a decision . Yes being in a great location with a nice campus and weather do not hurt . Do hope an Aztec Coach is going to go out to see the talent out on the East Coast this weekend and possibly during the other major events , the other two weekends in July . thought Coach Hutson was trying to establish a solid connection with the AAU team CIA Bounce from Eastern Canada also .

I love it that recruiting has gone national. Being from PA it might be a challenge to lure him 3,000 miles from home, but Coach Fish and Co, coupled with the insane environment at Viejas, the Show and the NBA Finals MVP might make the kid realize SDSU is now a spring board school to the NBA.

A.E.'s mentor is an assistant coach at a JC in San Diego - Coach Ku brought A.E. over to the campus last year to meet the staff and take a look at the campus . Believe Angelo Chol 's parents were from Africa, not sure if it matters but can't hurt . All adds up . If he is looking for a " family atmosphere " .

Angelo Chol and Kevin Zabo's parents both come from Africa. Perhaps that connect will also aid in luring A.E. to SDSU.

cityofbasketballlove.com/2014/07/elevate-hoops-showdown-day-1-evening-notebook/Today's update on Aflakpui, Fish is in Philly checking out his game. "Caught a pair of WE R1’s games, and two players in particular stood out as the Delaware-based program advanced into Sunday morning’s quarterfinals. Archbishop Carroll forward Ernest Aflakpui just keeps getting better and better on both ends of the court; he’s become a plus rebounder with good hands and runs the floor with the best of them. The fact that he’s a little short for a center a 6-9 will keep some schools away, but he’ll be an impact player at a mid-major-plus to high-major program soon enough."

Hi guys. From what we've heard on our end, Ernest likes SDSU a lot, but the distance might be too big of a factor. He is very, very close with his host family, who have one child at Temple and one child at St. Joe's. His host father also went to St. Joe's. I think the consensus is that we (Temple) currently lead for him, but recruiting is very fluid, so who knows how it looks in a week, or two, or six. Best of luck this season!

Believe E.A . has said he plans to take his time ,do the official visits with the schools he is interested in, so he can be there on the campus , talk with the coaches and players , so he can actually see where he has the best fit for him . Do not know if an Aztec coach will be there in Philly for the event July 23-27 .
