A little background on Monty the best I remember. Athletics holds a trademark on the logo. If a trademark is not used, it is lost. Aztec Shops allows a vendor to produce “x” amount of t’s, hats, etcetera to maintain the trademark. Per an agreement made several years ago athletics and Aztecs shops will not use, sell Monty or any depiction of a human as a logo. We all know there has been numerous attempts to do away with the Aztec Warrior and/or the Aztec name. The before mentioned agreement was made to curtail the “culturally insensitivity” argument of disgruntled Month. Aztec Shops and athletics are bound by the agreement the university made with various student groups. Many of us love (I do) the logo and want it back, but it will never happen.

That is the main problem, because their "Agreement" was ignorant and foolish! It should never have been allowed to be made! Those protesting it were not even Aztecs or of Indian origin. It was just a small group who made so much noise that some people started to listen to them. A majority were never in favor of lies they portrayed to the media, so we got what we got.

No argument, the merits of the agreement are questionable, it was made perhaps three+ organized protest ago. I’m surmising the agreement was made to appease the protester and a trade to keep the Aztec Warrior and name. The use of any depiction of a human representing an Aztec is prohibited by the university and/or ancillary services. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending the agreement, I’m just attempting to bring clarity.

That agreement is even worse than the conference agreement with Boise to pay them extra.

Every time I go to Sports Fever in Parkway Plaza, they are always out of stock. I do have a black DM with a red bill, and a red one with a black bill, but I need new ones.

I am going to be serious here for a second. Please try and keep this on task and do not take it off into other directions. What is the history of the Rights of the Disgruntled/Angry Monty mascot? Is there a copy-right or anything holding someone from using this mascot? It is time that somebody started it up again by making hats and shirts. There has to be somebody on this site or somebody knows somebody that could. If and when you see a cool shirt or hat with the Monty logo please post here. There really seems to be people looking. I saw that one that some just posted here earlier for a white or gray T-Shirt that looked nice. i would really like to see what people have from past years gone by. Please start to post older memorabilia with the Monty Mascot to give people ideas for shirts and hats. This is in no way a dig at the PC crowd or anything, I think that there is a group of people that just like the older mascot that use to be around on all kinds of shirts, hats, stickers, programs, flyers........ Please spare me any and all your comments about offending the Aztec History and or the NATIVE AMERICAN people, I am proud to be an Aztec (alumni) and would take great pride in wearing and showing off my Monty SDSU gear. Go Aztecs! First of all, jp92grad, One Big mistake you are making is assuming that the Aztec/Montezuma is an American Indian. Nothing could be further from the truth! The Aztecs were Mexican Indians living in Mexico, and if you didn't know the Mexican people love using Aztec face and images for their own on sports teams. I've seen one Aztec image used for their soccer team! So, any American protesting this Use of an Aztec has no validity at all! We are not offending them. In fact they are proud of it and that we use it for our mascot! I do have a basic understanding of the Aztec history and that of the Native Indians. I was trying to make the point that it was a time to get this Mascot back out in the public's eye because. I think there is a large percentage of the alumni that would like to get some Monty apparel. I was also directing the comment to the people/group that has or is blocking it use with the university, which probably doesn't follow this site any ways. I was just hoping that this would get people talking about and increasing the demand for the apparel and then maybe seeing more and different ideas popping up. i just want some cool different (throw-back) stuff to buy and wear while cheering on our Aztecs. This is not bandwagon stuff I just dig the old Monty and need it to mix in with the newer stuff! Nothing more, Nothing less Go Aztecs!

You could always do what I did when I wanted a hat with an impossible-to-find logo, and hit up Visual Creations out of National City. It cost me a bit extra, but I bought my blank hat on Amazon and had it shipped to them for embroidery. Think my total cost was around $28, and the embroidery is high quality. I like doing this because I get the hat fit I want, style I want, and logo I want. Gotten tons of compliments on it from folks too. Link: visual-creations-sd-custom-logos-apparel-and-decals.business.site/They're a family business, so I'm not sure how they'd do with making some Disgruntled Monty hats, but always worth a shot. The worst that can happen is that they say they can't. (Oh, and they take PayPal too!)
