We need a count down clock for Aztec Football! It is only 70 days until the Aztecs kick-off, and start the 2014 season, and time is getting shorter. Go Aztecs!!!

Here's an idea...edit the subject to "Aztec Football Countdown: 68 Days" Then you can enjoy the thrill and excitement of updating it every day through summer. Of course during the final 2 weeks you should probably include and update on the hour. Thanks for volunteering, you may well get pinned.

Here's an idea to help pass the time -- it's countdown oriented and increases Aztec Football knowledge: Each day you count down include a story about Aztec Football Players & Coaches (past or current) or an Aztec Football Game.
With 68 days to go, I am sure there are enough players on this years team alone to do at least a bio a day ... it doesn't have to be a countdown of the greatest or best (that can be done in the future) -- but this year can be a getting to know them countdown of players and coaches.

Darksidereturns> LOL! Very good except I wouldn't be able to do that. I don't spend that much time on this board, and don't have the expertise to know how to handle it. I was hoping someone with the knowledge could do it for us. But, we are now down to 68!

Ok, I'll start it ,but I will not be able to keep it going. Some one else will have to do that on a daily basis. Some Info On OC Bob Toledo Position: Offensive Coodinator San Diego State Years Exp.: 39, 18 as HC Named OC By Rocky Long on 1-10-13 Some of his exp: HC at UCRiverside 1974-'75 Coached Butch Johnson (WR) at UCR. Some may remember Butch as a very agile, and excellent WR. Was drafted by Dallas, and competed in a Super Bowl (can't remember which yr.) He caught a TD for them , and helped defeat the Miami Dolphins. Pacific-HC 1979-'82 UCLA- HC 1996-'02 Lead UCLA to school record 20 game win streak, 2 PAC 10 Titles, and 1 Rose Bowl. Non-conference victories over Texas (twice), Alabama (twice), Michigan, Ohio St., & Texas A&M. 1998 UCLA was 10-2, and climbed to No. 2 National Polls. Finished season No.5 in scoring offense (40.5), 8th total offense(482.6), school record 5487 total off., 3658 passing off., and 29 passing TD's. QB Cade McNown won Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, and finished 3rd in Heisman voting. '97 team was 10-2 and finished No.5 in National Polls after defeating Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl. Bob was the OC under Terry Donahue in 1994-'95. Unusual/ Unknown Facts About Bob Toledo He was an All Amer. (Div. II) in 1967 at QB while at San Francisco State, and set many records. 211/396 completions, for 3513 yards, and 45 TD's. He also set 8 NCAA Division II records. Plus, believe it or not, Bob Toledo does have some connection/ history with Don Coryell. In the 1967 Camellia Bowl in Sacramento Toledo was the starting QB with S.F.St., and they played Coryell's Aztecs in that bowl game. It was not one of Bob's better games as the Aztecs defense completely bottled him up, and won 28-7. After getting to know the Aztec players, and offense last season I expect Toledo will open it up quite a bit this season and we will see a lot more offense with big gains, and probably more scoring. Look forward to a very exciting season!

So today's countdown profile is OL Coach Mike Schmidt ...
There's some concern that he's not the most qualified for the job and this season is "do-or-die" for him, so I figured I'd post his bio and let the conversation go from there ...
Hometown: San Diego, Calif. High School: Madison High Position: Assistant Coach - Offensive Line Experience: Third Season Alma Mater: San Diego State, 2009
COACHING EXPERIENCE - Mike Schmidt worked with the offensive line as a graduate assistant in 2011. In 2010, he volunteered as a student assistant, while completing his degree.
PLAYING EXPERIENCE - Played offensive line for San Diego State from 2005-08 and was a captain in his senior campaign.
- A former walk-on on the defensive line, he changed sides of the ball and earned a scholarship in fall of 2007.
- Team captain at Madison High School in San Diego from 2004-05. Led the Warhawks to two Harbor League titles, while earning second-team all-CIF, league co-offensive player of the year and first-team all-league honors as a senior.
- Played in the 15th annual Alex Spanos All-Star Classic and was a San Diego Union-Tribune all-academic pick.
EDUCATION - Graduated from San Diego State in the fall of 2009, with his bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
