As a "what if" question...can we take more than 3 recruits and assume Sheppard will declare early or someone else will transfer?

Stephen Thompson 6'3 165 SG 4 Star
Nate Grimes 6'7 190 SF 3 Star
According to Rivals.com
Personally I'd take Grimes over Thompson because he's more of a playmaker.

I'd take Thompson over Grimes. The most important skill in all of basketball is shooting and we already have some playmakers.

James Kerti, National Scout Stephen Thompson, Jr. is an excellent shooter off the catch with range beyond the three-point line. His high basketball IQ, passing ability, and slashing game from the wing give us offensive game multiple dimensions. His instincts and length help him disrupt ball-handlers and passing lanes at the other end. There is a reason Nate is #119 by one service and unrated by the others, while STjr is #53, #66, #70.

AztecBill Bill, you can't take rankings too seriously. Look what happened to UNLV and all their 4-5 star players.

Should I trust ESPN Recruiting, Scout, and Rivals, who all rate Thompson significantly higher, or should I trust Aztecmesa super poster kushandfishersweets? Hmmm...you convinced me...I'll take Grimes

Your starting lineup for the Aztecs next year: Spencer Chol JJ Polee Shepard You don't like anyone under 6'7".

Thompson played better than Hemsley in AAU season so far, he is best SG on west coast (other than Dorsey).

Some really funny lines in this article. blogs.seattletimes.com/huskymensbasketball/2014/05/29/jeremy-hemsley-picks-san-diego-state/" the Huskies have got to question their standing on the west coast when San Diego State is viewed as a more favorable destination for top high school players. Granted the Aztecs posted a 31-5 record, which included a 70-63 win over Washington last season. They routinely sellout the 12,000-seat Viejas Arena. They’ve made five straight NCAA tourney appearances and advanced to the Sweet 16 last season. SDSU also has three players currently in the NBA. Still, it’s sobering to believe the new normal is a basketball world where a Mountain West team routinely trumps Pac-12 teams on the court and in recruiting." And here's what a Husky fan's reaction to the beat writer's surprise that little ol' SDSU is out-recruiting and outplaying Pac12 teams. Certainly not the most accurate info, but we get the point. "Ah helllllllooooooo beat writer. What Husky cool aid have you been drinking. The last time San Diego State didn't win 20 games in a season was 2004. Two of the last 4 seasons were 30 win seasons. They had a top 15 recruiting class THIS year. As you said 5 straight tourneys....3 player in the NBA. I'm watching Kawai Leonard guard Durant right now. They haven't lost to a California team in over a hundred games (lots of of Pac 12 there). I saw them win AT Kansas this year. And you even have the audacity to wonder why they would out recruit the Pac 12 let alone Washington. I really really hate to say it but WE are not in their class. Sorry, it's the truth. But at least state the obvious in your article.....instead of "granted".

It is so nice to not be able to differentiate since we have gained so much respect around the nation.

Thompson played better than Hemsley in AAU season so far, he is best SG on west coast (other than Dorsey). I think the plan is to groom Hemsley for the PG position anyway. He has the height and quickness to go along with his high basketball IQ. As great as X was for us this year, I can see Hemsley taking it up another notch in time.

Lousy editing typical of those dunderheads in the Pacific Northwest. The substance of the quotation is dead-on accurate, however. Our basketball program is better than any in the Pac-12 not named Arizona or UCLA and it's arguably as good as UCLA's right now.

Stanford did well in the NCAAs and return most. Their incoming freshmen ratings via verbal commits 4.3, 4.0, 4.0, 3.3. That is even better than the Aztecs 4.3, 4.0, 3.7, 3.0. And they did manage to beat Arizona.
