Well, after the fiasco on football field yesterday I heard more possible bad news. I picked my nephew up from the airport yesterday (UW Mutt, don't ask) and we started talking about hoops and recruits. He played for Mater Dei with MJ and Rex. He hung out with MJ over the Summer and the impression he got was that MJ is not interested in SDSU. Now we are talking about a young man who is being pulled in numerous directions and has probably already changes his mind numerous times so I'm hoping that nothing is set in stone and he still has an open mind.

That is somewhat of an interesting take, but honestly does not mean anything to me. As long as he publicly says we are under consideration, then I believe we still are.

LOL this reminds me of the post in the Trey Kell thread "I am Trey Kells best friend and he is committing to Vanderbilt"... Then Trey committed to us the next day.

Sorry, just passing it along. Hope you are right. I'm not saying you're right or wrong.. I'm just pointing out that similar things have been said during the recruitment of players who did end up committing to SDSU.

He'll never see his junior year no matter where he plays.

He'll never see his junior year no matter where he plays. Wouldn't be so sure, he's not a freak athlete, and though he's skilled he isn't jared Sullinger or Jhalil Okafor.

I would be surprised if MJ did not end up at SDSU.

Think both Cages are their own men , that are not going to let what Rex does or others determine what they want in a college for Junior . Believe if they do not see the Aztecs in his future they have enough respect for Fisher and the staff to let them know personally.

I went to school with Michael Cage and would love to see the legacy come down to Viejas; however, I am a realist. We're in his top choices only because of his father and relationship with coach Fisher. Cage Sr. played under Smokey Gains.

Only is a bit much, if this was SDSU of 7 years ago or farther back I am confident MJ would not be considering SDSU.

Obviously it's tough to rely on third party whispers, but this isn't the first or even second of these similar sentiments that we've heard, IIRC. I think one time someone posted that they sat behind MJ at game with his family and he seemed like he didn't even want to be there and barely watched. Of course, for all we know he could've just been texting a girl he likes or something, which any 16 or 17 year old would do no matter what game they're at. I think the other rumor posted was about someone talking to a Mater Dei coach who said MJ didn't really have any interest in SDSU. Who knows, but either way, I've never felt great about our chances with MJ, like I did with Z, Kell, etc.

Funny MJ Sr. story. I asked him one time how he chose SDSU and he told me that Smokey just totally duped him. He was of course in Arkansas and Smokey came out and told him that SDSU had these huge crowds, sellouts, etc. There was no internet back then so who knew. When he came out and asked where all the people were Smokey just ignored the question.

Mater Dei is obviously has a culture where high expectations for university admissions for academics and sports permeate the school. Thus the Notre Dame vs SDSU ( in Basketball ) is a valid argument, but in academics it is not. Hey what parent would say louder at any encounter - my sons plays at Notre Dame.
The great thing is that Cage jr's sister goes here & he comes to games, thus he has the best insight of really what it would be like here.
My feeling is that it is all contingent of THIS YEARS BUZZ and Season, if we surpass last years BUZZ we have a great chance at him.

Little doubt the Cages will be looking at a variety of things when they decide on schools to look at for M.Cage Jr. for 2016 . They have at least a year to make a decision and things change during a year. Rivals rates him #37 and at PF , with 7 other PF or C 's ahead of him . Playing PF, will he be making sure the school has a decent C and PG for him to play with ? For 2016 Aztecs will have BJ down low , with Cheatham , or possibly using a 2015 (Rex's) or 2016 scholarship for PF/C or transfer ? Will Zabo and others be high quality PG's ? Also would help if Spencer or Chol could develop into NBA draft choices to show the SDSU staff can develop big men . Believe the family likes the SDSU staff but the other Blue Blood schools also have quality coaches and get guts into the NBA - every top player's dream
