I gave this a lot of thought.
My favorite Aztec to watch was Brandon Heath.
My favorite Aztec as a person is DJ Gay.
And Brandon Heath is a tremendous human being.
But I just love DJ Gay. I smile just thinking about what an awesome dude and player he was for us.
And now we have X too. And before DJ was Richie.
We have been really spoiled, guys.

Couple of different questions in that post get different answers. Randy Holcolmb - first modern day big time recruit to choose SDSU when conventional wisdom was not to Tony Gwynn - because he is possibly the finest human being I know , bonus that he is a HOF'er Michael Cage - our first NBA star Chase Tapley - coaches dream , did so many things that didn't show up in the box score ...oh, and the box score is pretty dam n good too! Evan Burns - McDonalds all American , man would have loved to see what he could have done if he hadn't gotten hurt. I was just about to put my list together, but you nailed it. I would add: Kawhi Leonard Billy White DJ Gay Al Faux Kim Goetz Anthony Watson Marcus Slaughter Mohammad Abukar Leonard Allen Kyle Spain (Spaniard, I shall cheer for you. Plus, I loved to watch the show waive the Spanish flag and chant, "Ole, ole, ole, ole."

I've got a bunch, but for now I'll add two that have been omitted. I absolutely LOVED Matt Thomas. Sought after recruit outta Riverside King. Had a solid freshman year, battled back problems the next two, then finished his career as the epitome of what a role player is. Things always went positive it seemed when he was on the floor. And he seemed like such a nice kid. And then there is the Show favorite Chris Manker and his 3 ball

Holcomb. He was the first legit player in the Fisher era. He started it all. Just wondering, how many minutes would he, or Bland, or Faux get on today's team? Faux would still get minutes. He could shoot and he loved big shots. Randy would start. He was an NBA draft pick who had a cup of coffee in the NBA with the Bulls. Bland: He'd be a solid role player for us off the bench.

Rahon; also loved (and miss) Tapley. I miss Taps too. Could use his consistent sharp shooting (among other things) this season. Would help me get through games with less anxiety, lol. By the way, this has been discussed before, but aside from the pride and satisfaction we all feel by the unbelievable quality of the play on the floor .... in thinking of Chase - and also watching the player post-game press conference after last nights game, I am once again reminded of what high caliber/character these young men are and how we should all be so proud of that too. For me, it takes the whole level of quality of what has been built here to a whole next level. No doubt Fisher recruits quality players with lots of potential, but he also now looking for those kids that are also high character kids in every way. Fish can ge very picky and "greedy" about wanting a lot out of recruits. case in point is now passing on kids where they are doubts, now matter how talented- Jabari Brown anyone? It seems the better this program becomes, the aspect of high quality kids on and off the court gets even better. And then Fish, Dutch, Little Fish, Hut, etc. mold these guys into unbelievable young men, tremendous teams, and a family-like experience. Truly a program to be proud of in every way.

Michael Cage, the Rebounding Rage ... and Tony Gwynn. They go hand in hand. Dating myself. Any list without these two is bogus. These gentlemen were not only great basketball players, they were and are great people.

You reminded me of my favorite person. I was lucky to be a sub for 3 days in a summer school class for a prof in the school of Ed. Matt and Richie showed up to crash the class, and of course I let them in. Richie walked out during a break and never came back. Matt stayed, and learned, and contributed to the class. When the class was over I asked Prof buddy how he did in the class. She said that, "she had never had such a sweet student." Every semester she took her class to on a grammar school outreach type deal, and she said that Matt was the most patient, caring person she had taught. On the court, he was a killer, off an angel. He never turned the ball over, he never gave up on himself, his team or his students.
