For us real old timers, the closest, best and cheapest venue for a big pitcher of cold beer was the Two Bit Sandwich Shop. If only it could come back. Hence my screen name. Remember Frank, the guy at the register with squinty eyes, something $4.55 would be $455.00 in his math...Lucky #69...picnic benches with the red/white checkered table cloths...miss that place.

They weren't squinty eyes, they looked two different directions. I never knew if he was asking for my order or the guy next to me.

Since they passed the no-smoking policy on campus, I've pretty much ignored it and smoke anyway. No repercussions so far.

You can't do those things because most of the people on this planet are morons. You'd have cigarette butts everywhere, beaches would be littered with dog sh-t and broken glass. Las Vegas is a sh-t hole even with the ridiculous amount of cleaning they do every single morning. It sounds good in theory but have a conversion with an average human and you see why those regulations are needed. // Sent from my GS4 // not the planet since nearly every other country in the world don't nanny their citizens like the US. Europe seems to get along just fine. I live in north county and it seems to me that most folks are responsible adults who could manage their dogs and alcohol just fine. I know they wouldnt stand for smoking though. Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards Beaches used to have cigarette butts and filters strewn all over the sand, broken bottles were not as common, but something you had to watch out for. Dog $#!+ did decompose, but it was there. That is what is would be like again if those rules were not in place. Certainly there is a majority that do not need rules to be reminded to be responsible. I doubt, though, that more than a few smokers picked up the cigarette butts they stubbed out in the sand.

My son, who was in Europe this summer, said it surprised him how dirty it was, especially Paris. Amsterdam was the outlier.

There is no way only 2% of the population is irresponsible. Those rules didn't come out of thin air they were created out of necessity. While I agree that the population with common sense is more or less the same in each country there are differences. In Germany if you're driving in the fast lane and a slow car is in front of you they simply get out of the way. In California they break check you and give you the finger. Both are great places to live but we have a little ways to go in the respect department. // Sent from my GS4 //

Alright, so, back on topic. Craft Beer (i.e. San Diego Craft Beer) is something I'm very passionate about. So, here's some great news for us: According to Brandon Hernandez (pretty much the reader's version of Peter Rowe), the new Oggi's will have a whopping 20 taps, half of which will be Oggi's (Left Coast) and the other half which will likely pay homage to the local scene (although I wouldn't be surprised to see the macro stuff to attempt to please a broader spectrum). Here's the write up with additional information. www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2014/jan/16/beer-oggis-infusion-sdsu/

Ah, Monty's Den. I remember it well. Of course, even the NAME of the place is politically incorrect these days . . .

Two Bit! I've been trying to remember the name of that place. Was there in the '80s. I was once at Two Bit on an afternoon when the place was pretty empty and this good-looking, thin little sorority girl sat down at the table I was at and DEVOURED a sub in minutes. I mean she sucked that thing down, then got up and left. I assumed she was bulimic. It's really my only memory of the place.
