I read on the SDSU website that the new Oggi's is called Oggi's Pizza Express. Usually when Express is included in the name of a restaurant it means it is limited in menu items, seating, and alcohol choices. Does anybody know what the difference will be between the Oggi's Express and a normal Oggi's restaurant?

"According to Ferrara, the SDSU location will feature personal pizzas, wraps and salads priced at an affordable $7.50. This will allow the Union location to serve customers quickly during lunch and dinner service, while highlighting the Oggi’s menu. The restaurant will also feature a variety of Oggi’s award-winning micro-brewed beer and other craft beers, along with a wine menu, Ferrara said." newscenter.sdsu.edu/sdsu_newscenter/news.aspx?s=74525

How were they able to get beer on the campus? I thought there was some big rule against that.

How were they able to get beer on the campus? I thought there was some big rule against that. I think the issue was no beer on campus at NCAA events. Many of us old timers went for pitchers of beer on campus at Monty's Den. I don't recall when and why it closed. Would be nice if Chipotle and The Habit serve beer along with Oggi's. What a great opportunity to showcase San Diego microbrews. as.sdsu.edu/aztec-student-union/content.php?sub=5Ideally they'd stretch their hours past 10pm on game nights to give us somewhere to celebrate rather than sit in a parking lot jam.

Correct it's for NCAA games on campus. Monty's became Louie's while I was on campus and served beer. It had closed when the student union was torn down, much controversy around it since most students want an on campus bar. Would make sense to have one in the bowling alley too. The current Chipotle by the trolley has beer and is technically on campus so don't see why this new one won't. Not sure if Habit Burgers have beer though. Open late would be nice too.

It was open at least until 2006 (thats when I finished grad school). Of course by then it was called Louies, but still was great. I can't fathom what students (or professors) nowadays do before evening classes, or between morning classes, or after hitting up the arc, or after night classes without a campus pub.

Be happy Yes...I knew Monty's had beer when I was at SDSU. I thought the rules had changed after that to not allow beer. It sounds like it only impacts NCAA sporting events.

I thought the Monty's thing had to do with licensing at the time.
That new student center looks really nice.I can't wait to see it.
...I won't hold my breath to see a new bookstore anytime soon.

Oggi's does have some pretty good brews... I particularly like the Amber, IPA, and Stout. But sometimes, you've just gotta have a Blonde... ...to go with the beer. The land that Chipotle is on is owned by SDSU, so it is on campus. Also, it is legal to have alcohol served on campus. Have no fear, Oggi's and Chipotle will still have beer in the new center.

The new Chipotle will not have beer. The university controls alcohol on campus and the only places allowed are the FacultyStaff Club and now Oggi's. The are strict rules about access and enforcement and the site of new Chipotle is too open and would require staff to watch the several entrances even if they did allow it. The current Chipotle will close by the end of the month.

Some of my best memories at SDSU involve drinking on the patio checking out all of the lovely eye candy. Once you get a great buzz going, head down to the bowling alley. I'm all in as long as they keep the outdoor drinking patio.

I see that the powers that be have made smoking a prohibited activity on campus.
Does this mean they will have the smoke police on campus?
How does a perfectly legal activity, (smoking) suddenly become illegal?
So if you want to stroll off between classes to some isolated area on campus to have a smoke you are at risk of being arrested?
Went to school when you could go to Monty's Den have a beer and a smoke after class and it was perfectly acceptable. Now you have to check with the NCAA to see if you are allowed to have a beer with an over priced pizza. And don't even think about lighting up that after dinner smoke, because you will wind up with plastic cuffs on your wrists.
Anybody know the penalty for smoking outside on campus? It it a misdemeanor punishable by a fine, removal from school, forced to pick up trash on the weekend, a felony that goes on your permanent record?
Have thousands of cars everyday on campus that spew polluted exhaust, but you better not smoke because if someone smells your smoke they will get cancer.
What a bunch of horse sh^*. Show me one study that confirms that someone got cancer from second hand smoke outside.
