If SDSU had an opening, they would be foolish not to take a good, long look at Orgeron. He could bring in talent to this program big time. He has that rep. One would hope if he WERE here, he would make strong hires at OC and DC (not to mention the rest of the staff). But....we don't have an opening. Nor will we this off season. Unless Rocky retires. Now, I'd only put the odds on that happening at about 1 in 10, but he quit at New Mexico when things got tough, and since then he's reached retirement age so you never know.

What question? As soon as he took over for Kiffin they starting winning right away. Kiffin would never have beaten Stanford. I'm surprised that Orgeron would stoop down to FAU. He's been USC's ace recruiter and has BCS ties. Good God, he went 6-2 and yes, beat a Stanford team at home that also lost on the road to Utah. It was a nice win, let's not go enshrining Ed Orgeron just yet. His USC team beat Arizona, Utah, Oregon State, Cal, Stanford, and Colorado. They also lost to Notre Dame and got worked by UCLA. What about his work at Ole Miss? In his THIRD season he went 0-8 in SEC play, which hadn't been done in 30 years. And his successor went on to two bowls in three years (cue the "With Orgerons players!" bullsh*t) At this time of the year, USC's depth issue comes into play. As for why that happened at Ole Miss, I don't know. Do you?

This is not rhetorical: Has Orgeron ever expressed any interest in SDSU over the years?

What matters is the bottom line. You know that. Does this mean Orgeron can't win at his next gig? Hell no. Plenty of coaches have failed at their first stop. Hell, Gene Chizik was 5-19 at Iowa State when he got the Auburn job. Which INFURIATED the fan base (that hire took brass balls by the AD). He won a national championship there within what, a year or two? All I am saying is, it has to be factored into the equation. Before you hire a coach you look at his entire body of work. You don't just say "Hey, this guy can f****** recruit like a son of a bitch, and boy can he give a hell of a pregame speech!" Your resume IS important when applying for a job, I don't have to tell you that. He wasn't just mediocre at Oxford, he was downright putrid. Chuck Long bad. Again, that doesn't mean he wouldn't win elsewhere.

Take it up with rmksdsu30. He must have a reason why he's sold on him no matter what you think.

We aren't looking for a new coach.
But we are looking for a more supportive fan base.

Rocky kind of reminds me of a Marty Schottenheimer type coach. Not sure he can take you to the promise land but gets you close. I really like Rocky as a D-Coordinator. I think if he demoted himself, and hired Orgeron as the HC, we might make the playoffs as a top 4 team in 2-3 years.

I like the way he uses the linebackers and the blitz packages. I'm not sure about the inconsistency between games and if it is just an execution issue, but holding Boise to under 100 yards in the first half says something about how the team was prepared, and the 3-5-3 defense. I can't forget how fun that Boise game was and how hard the players wanted that win. Its easy to say that Dingwell shouldn't have started the season but he took us to a Bowl game last year, so I respect that decision to play him at less than 100% if that was the case, and the coaches made a change when it was needed to save the season, which they did. Look past the last game and everything got better except the kicking game.

Is this a fantasy coaching list? Or is there some reason to believe that Orgeron has any interest at all in coming here?

Ed Orgeron is not coming to SDSU. We don't have an opening for a head coach. Rocky Long is our head coach and he has a contract in place through the 2017 season. He has the third highest winning percentage in Aztecs history, earned us a share of the conference championship last year, we are 1 game out (missed field goal) from the conference championship game this year, are going to our 4th straight bowl, Rocky earned Coach of the Year in the Mountain West - just one year ago! Remember, he took the contract extension without asking for or getting a raise! Instead, he passed the money he would have made to the assistant coaches. Rocky is not a program jumper. We don't have to worry if he becomes super successful that he will jump to a BCS program. He is committed here to build a winning program and the trajectory is looking good.
My God people, enjoy this!
Go Aztecs!

Ogeron should be a Wyo candidate. That is a personality that could shake that program into another level.

I understand the constant hey how about this guy for our new head football coach. Rocky isn't Mr. Personality. His teams don't seem to come out every game with fire from start to finish. He doesn't seem to care if they win a bowl game but it's just for the kids. He doesn't do things the normal way. But he's been successful here and almost had another amazing season with inexperienced DB's (which are extremely important in his D) and at first starting a running QB under a pass first OC and later a walk-on QB. He's destroyed the confidence of every kicker we've had which is a problem though. But replacing him with a 10-25 (not counting USC) head coach. Orgeron wants to be a HC at a top program and would jump after one year if he could. I'm no Rocky fan but I'd much rather take a guy who's kept the program at a level we didn't have for 20 years. If you can be consistent for a long period of time your program will strengthen. We need to have 5 really solid recruiting classes where a group of those kids really blossom. I believe it'll happen and in a couple of years when we have an experienced QB in the system we'll have a season like Fresno State just had.

Just listening to sports radio a couple of minutes ago, seems Old Ed O. has quit the Trojans in a snit and will not coach them in their bowl game. He probably would have been hired by the new coach because of his ability to recruit, and almost certainly would have been hired if he won the bowl game. This is who we want to coach?

Maybe he was too interested in on all the access to peripheral things new to a newly hired HC such as making Hummer commercials. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX7wzhMvbzoJ/K

I think the smart thing to do is force Rocky to ask Orgeron if he'd be interested as a coordinator. If his area of expertise substantially improves that side of the ball then he should be told he'd be considered as Rocky's future replacement. Orgeron may be interested, or tell us to FO. Hey, if you don't ask you'll never know. Remember this is the guy who applied for the FAU job, of all places.
Anyway no matter what, Rocky shouldn't be allowed to keep this current staff intact. It needs changing and Sterk will have to get him some financial support from Hirshman to force him to change it, or else. He has a full plate as the HC/DC and must rely on his staff to pay attention to the details. This staff has shown they're incapable with a part time HC. If Rocky had the time to supervise them I think we'd have done much better.

Just to be clear, I am not on the "Fire Rocky" side of the fence, though there has been more than enough coaching fiascos this season to justify his exit. Based on how he turned the flaming pile that was U$C into a competitive team I think Ed Orgeron would be a great replacement for Rocky. I realize it wont happen, but I think Orgeron is the type of coach that could take SDSU up a notch. He might be that type of coach, but "we" are committed to the coach we have... As I've said, I have very mixed feelings about SDSU hiring Orgeron even should we not go bowling and Rocky quit - since there's zero chance of Rocky being fired. However, even assuming Rocky quits and further assuming Orgeron would express interest in the job, I see no way he would be hired at SDSU. At a minimum, Orgeron was reported to have been covertly texting Tennessee players during the very team meeting at which Lane Kiffin was telling them why he was leaving for USC despite recent assurances that he and his staff would be returning. Among the players Orgeron allegedly texted was Tyler Bray and Bray had recently decommitted from SDSU to join Kiffin and Orgeron at Tennessee. Do I consider that unethical? Very much so. However, I'm probably capable of being persuaded it happens frequently. But I can almost guarantee that Hirshman and the CSU chancellor are not capable of being so persuaded.

I don't like it either, but was it illegal or unethical? He's labeled more for losing at Ole Miss than that texting incident anyway. Staying away from all but the squeaky clean has gotten us missed opportunities. Over time PC has gotten even more ridiculous. Jim Harbaugh and his DUI still got him a job at Stanford. I bet we couldn't hire Steve Fisher today because he would be considered "dirty" which is all it takes to be denied around here. JMO
