Some how the idea that entry level low wage jobs are not meant to be careers escapes lefties. Why do righties think exploiting employees is a good idea? Offering entry level low skill jobs is hardly exploitation.

I am sure that Wendy's workers will apply for those kind of positions as they develop skills and can show stability. It is all part of a competitive job market.

These are after school jobs or temp jobs while still looking. Not anymore. It is much harder for a student to find an 'after school job' these days. Many of the traditional fast food jobs are now being filled by older workers who work no more than 30 hours a week at the job. This is so they won't get paid benefits. I have two teenage boys so I know how hard the job search is.

Not what you think and certainly not what was expected when this MSNBC liberal posed the question. www.ijreview.com/2014/01/110131-answer-msnbc-host-looking-bill-gates-raising-minimum-wage/Don't know where Gates got his stats, but this is how someone with any depth would look at it.

Ya. Let's ask the richest man in the world about the minimum wage. Business will ALWAYS replace people with automation when possible. It doesn't matter what they make.

What a fool I've been! Went to school, became a teacher, somehow hung on in the classroom til I reached retirement age. If only I had been smart enough to become a modern day Robber Baron! Now, that's what I should have done. I would have rounded up a bunch of rough, tough, thugs. Then I would have given them weapons and told them to go out and wander the country, holding up people and breaking into business and banks. Hell, I could have piled up millions of dollars in ill-gotten gains. Why, by now I would have owned luxury homes, my own jet plane, several . . . Oh, what's that you say?
You are telling me that the old time Robber Barons DID NOT send out bands of robbers? So, how did they make their fortunes? What? Oh, I see. They built factories and railroads and invented things like the electric light and better ways to manufacture steel? Gee, that sounds a lot more complicated than just sending out thugs to stick up people. But there's that name: Robber Baron. What about that? Hmm. I suppose there was some reason for the name. Perhaps it was ILLEGAL to build steel mills, build railroads, and invent neat new things.
How's that? You are telling me that none of those things was illegal? Okay, then, I just don't get it.

AzWm I find it even more amazing that these whining liberals seem to think that there is only a finite amount of wealth and that those who have built a business or have invested can only contribute to society if they have their fortune taken from them and redistributed. They want to sit around and eat the seed corn and kill and eat the goose who lays the eggs.

The "Captains of Industry" v. "Robber Barons" has been a debate for years. William, your description of a Robber Baron is ludicrous. I imagine you know better than that. Trolling your own board is beneath you, William.

Trolling your own board is beneath you, William. Well, hell, of course it's ludicrous;that's the point. That's satire, friend! I was trying, perhaps unsuccessfully, to take a jab at the view held, to one degree or another, by many on the Left who think that people get rich largely, if not mostly, through good luck instead of through intelligent personal decisions and incredibly hard work. You remember the "You didn't build that" refrain, right? I think that BHO was speaking in all seriousness when he made that remark. H e may be a really nice guy, great husband, and doting father, but as regards understanding what works and what does not work economically, he is at best a lightweight. And I mean a really light weight!AzWm

Of course the government gave the railroad barons alternating section of land along the right of way. No government intervention in the marketplace there.

Here's the basic question. See if you can answer it correctly.
Yes or No: Wealth is created mostly (that means not entirely, just to stress an important point) by risk-takers who have a dream and work very hard to make that dream (building a car company, inventing a new means of doing something useful, starting a restaurant, etc.) come true.
Remember, I said "mostly." Nobody is claiming that success is achieved without some help from others in the form of government roads, fire departments, courts, contract laws, etc.

No government intervention in the marketplace there. Of course there were incentives that helped make the railroads and their risk takers very successful. Had government chosen to try to undertake that task itself, we would still be laying rail between Chicago and Minneapolis.
