You know the NBA is not always as sharp as they think. When you have a solid very good player like Tapley slip thru the cracks it just shows you that someone is not always doing their homework very carefully.
He could easily be a good backup for a front line player, and with some experience could be a tremendous help to many teams in the league. I was sort of surprised that he didn't get drafted by any team, even late. Any NBA team that gives him a shot will be pleasantly surprised I'm sure.

Agree. He needs to be ready for his chance... If he proves he can hit from the NBA 3 line, he will have a spot from everything else he does.

Gary Neal is reportedly going to leave the Spurs and sign a big contract elsewhere. With some hard work, and luck(right team) Chase can be a very similar player.

He was a very good college player and he's a very good guy with a great family behind him, but he didn't slip through the NBA draft cracks. Only 60 players are drafted and this past draft only 13 SGs were drafted. NBA executives simply don't draft 6'2" shooting guards. Even Jamaal Franklin at 6'5" was the second-to-last SG selected. And Chase wasn't coming off a great year. Last year Chase was 3rd-team all-MWC; seven other guards (including two juniors) made the 1st and 2nd all-conference teams. What position do you see Chase playing in the NBA? At 6'2" 205, Chase is the size of an average NBA point guard and he's about 4" shorter than the average SG. (EDIT: even if Chase is really his goaztecs listed 6'3", you get my point). I wish him the best. He's certainly trying out for the right team.

I don't have the foggiest notion of where he will play in the NBA, but that doesn't matter. He will play somewhere, and you are making a major mistake because of his size. You can't sit there, and say with any validity that just because of him being 6'2" he won't play well in the NBA. Many players in spite of their size are still very good players in many sports. If, you judge someone's skill just on size only you need to go to the back of the room! That is also what I'm saying to the NBA scouts, "Wake up knuckleheads! You let a player slip thru your fingers that may be of great help to you!"

Unfortunately, the gap between a very, very good college shooting guard... and just a below average NBA 'roster' guard is HUGE. He is far too slow to play point guard in the NBA... and he is far too short to play shooting guard in the NBA. How is he going to create his own shot? How is he going to shoot over guys guarding him that are 6'6"? Chase can make a darn good living playing overseas... and if he wants to, could make a solid living as a coach someday as well!

the immense amount of respect i have for Chase is preventing me from commenting on your comparison between him and Wade. Yea, that's not a fair comparison both athletically or playing style wise.

I want to compare Chase's game to another MWC player currently in the NBA but I won't.

One of the main reason(s) that Chase did not get drafted is that he was not "selfish" enough on the Court! Yes, it would have been nice if Chase was taller, but there are a lot of players in the NBA that are shorter than he is, slower than he is, with less basketball IQ, cannot shoot, dribble or play defense, but somehow found their way into the league/NBA, right?
Unfortunately, majority of Aztecs Fans did not see Chase play during his High School years before he broke his leg. Ironically, prior to breaking his leg, his game and style of play was compared to Dwyane Wade, as Wade is his favorite player.
Obviously, when one suffers a career ending injury, one may be reluctant to attack the basket with reckless abandon (like he did) and display his athleticism. For example, against Arizona, Chase should have had the mindset to "dunk/slam the ball as he drove to the basket instead of layup! Only Chase can answer the "why" he chose to change his style of play after he broke his leg.
As a former player/parent, I can only surmise that he had a fear in the back of his mind that if he continued to play in an attack mode in College like he did in HS, maybe he suffers another serious injury to his leg and end his playing career.
I am thankful and grateful that the injury God protected him over his four year college career! However, I believe his fear of suffering another leg injury" caused him change his style of play. As I have often told him, he has no reason to whine or complain about not making it to the NBA because he had plenty of opportunities and exposure during his Aztec college career.
Finally, had Chase led the Aztecs in scoring, assists, steals, won a couple of MWC POY awards, played "selfishly" and dunked the ball at every opportunity like he did prior to his leg injury, I have no doubt that he would been drafted by an NBA team! Bottomline, he did not make it to the league, so it is time for him, his relatives, parents, friends and fans to move on! Go Aztecs!
