2 kids (0ne girl and one guy) from a couple of our friends were Frosh at CPSLO last year. Our friends, from different cities, both said that neither of the kids could get into SDSU....they tried. I'm not saying that's not accurate but I find it very surprising. Both schools are admitting only like 28% of qualified freshmen these days so I wonder whether the problem wasn't the major they wanted to pursue. For instance, Cal Poly is known to have great programs in engineering and architecture whereas SDSU is known for its business school among others. I get your point and John's, however, that there is a difference between members of a university system. That's true of the UCs as well. I've only known one UCR grad and although he was an impressive guy professionally, like me with CSUN (from which I transferred to SDSU), he pretty much settled for UCR because he couldn't get into a better UC school out of HS because he put out little effort before college so his grades were unimpressive. Like him, I bet that unless they're locals, most UCR students go there because they can't get into another UC school. To get the discussion back on track, the build-a-fence idea is silly because a lot of kids just don't want to stay home for college. However, who in their right mind would want to "go away" to Riverside? In contrast, a LOT of kids love San Diego. Which is why when - not if - our football team begins winning as often as Boise, we'll out-recruit them at least 75% of the time.
