This year's MWC tournament will have the Men's Quarter Finals on Wednesday. This means anyone attending the first game will have to wait around 48 hours for their team to play again. It was always games on 3 consecutive days. I wonder if the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention folks wanted that 48 hours. I suspect many will just show up Friday now.
That Quarter Finals will see (at least) 2 very good teams going home. The 4/5 and 3/6 games will be 4 top 40 RPI teams playing.

Unless unm drops some games they shouldn't (very possible) we'll most likely be a 2 or 3 seed playing in one of the morning games on wednesday too, noon or 230. that place will probably be pretty empty

If I'm successful at gambling when I'm there in February for the UNLV game then I think I'm going to go to all the games.
If not, I will go up on Friday because 5 days in Vegas never ends well for anyone.

I can't make it this year due to work but I had no planned on getting there for the opening round because it took too much time away from work. This is a bad idea but no doubt, TV calls the shots.

I noticed that, too. It's a definite Friday arrival for me, now. It's too bad, because that first full day was really fun with everybody represented. You got to see almost all the teams, bands, cheerleaders, interact with other fans, etc.
Definite TV call.

Seems to me that change will really mean a home court advantage for UNLV on opening day. Will be just like a regular season home game with just a handful of the opponent's fans in attendance and only a handful more fans from other conference teams to root against the Rebels.

The Rebs don't draw particularly well to that opening round. When we drew them in the opening round in, I think, 2009 (whatever year it was that we got hosed out of a bid and made the NIT Final Four), the SDSU-UNLV was basically seen by an almost packed lower bowl, and NOBODY in the upper bowl. UNLV had zero students there. Maybe they'll change their tune now that they're performing a little better, but I don't think that fan base is a "let's go to the T&M in the middle of a work day" type of crowd.

Now people around here are complaining about extra vacation days in Vegas? If you're doing it right, 3 days in vegas is a day and a half too long, 4 days is punishment.

I don't see how it really helps tv to have weds games on cbs cable vs thursday games, how many other games does cbs have on thursday?

Could always go watch the Pac12 tourney down the street on the off day. I would imagine that playing at UNLV is cheaper than renting the MGM Arena, but I always felt that would be the best option. Still get to be in Vegas, but at least it's somewhat of a neutral court. Guess that's out now that the Pac12 got in on that.

oh, I thought they were on fox. Funny that the MWC is the much better bball conference and we get moved Yeah. I think it's a combination of MWC and simply just being in the West. ESPN isn't doing the Pac-12 any favors by broadcasting their game at 11pm ET on Saturday. In fact, one could argue that the MWC's 6pm ET time slot on CBS is clearly better than the Pac-12's arrangement.

I brought this up when the MWC Tournament Dates were annouced and I'm still pretty pissed. I liked getting there and having 3 days of games. It also made getting the all-session pass worth it. Now, I'm just going to buy the Fri PM Session and Sat Session Tickets.
It may be good for the teams as the 4 winners will have a day off before the semis. Of course, this will all change for next season when I predict the top 3 teams will get byes.

We will attend all of them including the Aztecs women's games. If I recall, the women's finals are now the late game on Saturday. We will head home right after that last game to beat the traffic and not have to spend a weekend rate for another night. I agree: too much time in Vegas is dreadful.
