No one won this game by themself. That's stupid. It took a complete team effort with different guys making plays down the stretch. Actually what is "stupid" is "fans" of a team piling on the guy who scored 1/3 of the teams points and grabbed 1/2 the teams rebounds in the game. In this game, I do not mean to pile on JF. He made some great plays. As I already wrote, if he's not there, we don't win. However, when you write that he scored 1/3 of the points, you might consider that he had 4 of the team's 11 turnovers. He took 17 shots and scored 20. That isn't great production. JR took 11 and scored 16, that is much better. BTW, JF also led in blocks where he had 4 out of our 6.

Nice write-up except for mentioning that Franklin is a senior

Shep had 6 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists in his first ever start. He also had only 2 turnovers.

Hard to believe we almost beat AZ and then almost lose to a Fresno team.

Several years back, when I had the time, I used to watch a TON of Big Eadt hoops; this reminded me of one of those games. One team comes out and pushes the physicality of the game early on, not dirty but definitely things that can draw a whistle. But if the refs let it go early on, then the team who is playing physical gets an advantage; it most likely will force the other team out of their game and more importantly, as they try to match the physicality (as SDSU tried to tonite) the refs will start to try to reel things in.
Upshaw was real rugged early on out there, not cheap but definitely pushing the limits of the whistle. It got to the point that Fisher drew a T, thats fairly indicative. But in the end we got a "w" and will be wiser for the experience, and better prepared for a similar situation

Hard to believe we almost beat AZ and then almost lose to a Fresno team. You mean the Arizona team that beat Utah last weekend when Utah missed a shot to end the game? Good teams pull out games like this. We had 13 games decided on the last possession last year and won 10 of them. That was the difference between our 6 seed and an NIT invitation. Or did you forget Wyoming at home and 2 Boise State games. Jamaal, Rahon, and Shepard all played well tonight. JJ O'Brien at point was a huge problem. 8 hour bus ride and no X. FSU hit more 3s than normal but we still got it done in the last minutes where good teams thrive.

Hard to believe we almost beat AZ and then almost lose to a Fresno team. Why? They are very tough rivals, and if you would have seen the info before the game on .goaztecs.com you would understand better. They average more than 7 steals a game, and when they get 10 they are 4-0. Tonight, they got 11 off of us, and out hustled us most of the game because they don't have the talent. That is the way I would have coached them to play, and it almost paid off in a big victory.

Yes I read the stats on goaztecs. Seriously, you're trying to make this Fresno team better than they are. My initial question still stands. Who's next to put Fresno on a pedestal?

Scoring more points than shot attempts is good. But you have to really add the free throws into that metric. That is the strength of Jamaal's offense. You also don't consider that Jamaal was forced into taking an active hand in scoring because Thames was gone, Tapely disappeared, and offense was not flowing. It is much easier to score more effectively when you can just wait for an open shot.

Hold it, you are completely misunderstanding my point. I don't think Fresno is that good, but because they are 'ol rivals they are not going to let us come up to Fresno to just run over them. They played their hearts out tonight, and that's what rivals usually do. You can expect more of the same when they visit us in Viejas. Haven't you seen close rivals play each other tough no matter what their records are? That is what you saw tonight.

I'm sorry. 13 years removed a rivalry does not make.

I'm sorry. 13 years removed a rivalry does not make. A rival is what you make it to be. The Aztecs are a rival if I am the only one who thinks so. My Son-in-law's family and my daughter are big-time Aztec fans and that makes the Aztecs my rival. What you don't think it is, is your business.

No freaking way that's a charged. Just watched it in slo-mo. Guy doesn't get in front of JF and doesn't have his feet set until JF is right on him. Do you follow Fisher's teams? Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

I'm sorry. 13 years removed a rivalry does not make. There is a reason why both SDSU and Fresno st. teams no matter football or basketball really really want to beat each other whenever they play. Thats because they ARE a rival. It may not get any media attention or be on the scale of any other, but you cannot tell me that Fresno did not want this game tonight bad. We are going to get everyone of our Conference opponents A game and A+ effort.

Give them Dogs some credit. They were psyched to play a Top 20 team on their court and rose to the occasion. We WILL be seeing this sort of effort from plenty of other teams that have that extra motivation to knock off a ranked team. Be ready!

Ok, to the two people who responded, then Yes we are rivals (but not really). No one gave a rats ass about fresno during the 4 years I was at state back in the late 80's and early 90's. Don't give me they are rivals bull$#!+, except in your own heads.
