Is our fanbase proving itself to be full of small timers (like many of us always suspected it was), or is it just the older guys who have a strange affinity for schools like Utah State, Wyoming, and San Jose? or option 3 - knowing the realignment effect on bball while seeing the benefits for football disappear

Why would anyone want to spilt up our sports teams so they can join a no name bus league for basketball, and join a has been basketball cobference for football only? Because being in a conference with schools like Houston/SMU/UCF/USF/Cincy and UConn is better than being in a conference with Boise and its 10 bitches. I thought Boise only had 1 bitch?

Okay, so I'm not here to pick a fight... or even to go out of my way to defend SJSU's dismal attendance numbers... but I'm not sure BITS equates into "national exposure" as much as the efficacy of the media deal your conference has. Moreover, notwithstanding the very top programs (I'm thinking "habitual" top 15 or so), isn't there recent data out there that says attendance has taken a hit at many "top" football programs of late? For example, I remember seeing some pretty shocking photos of dismal Miami Home crowd attendance of late... To answer that question, yes. There's over-saturation of college football now and it was bound to happen. Disgust with the greed, too many bowl games, et al. As an example of the latter point, this year's Sugar Bowl had its lowest attendance since 1939. To which I say to those who criticized SDSU's fan base for the Poinsettia Bowl numbers, put that in your pipe and smoke it. BTW, buff, you'd get more responses to your psots if they weren't quite the length of Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

So are we at the best or least of two bad situations. From the BE we need a guarantee of conference for all sports going forward, or at least basketball for both mens and womens , plus decent TV deals.and BB games against 3 or 4 BE teams each year until we get the West Conference going. MW what are they going to present SDSU , with % of bowls, TV money, rights to games not on TV. Location of championship game if they have one for football. Does Coach Fisher have any imput on where the MW tournament is held.(Realize fans want UNLV but does the coach). Auto bid to NCAA is important.

I hate the move to the BE but I would hate to see our institutional integrity take the hit of not sticking to our commitments. Therefore I'm casting my vote for the BE.

Ideally Being in the BE for Football AND B-ball would probably be the ideal... But the BW would never let us join without B-ball so that argument has not merit. Additionally, we all know the MWC would not allow us in any sports without football and their OLY sports suck anyway. I don't know where this all goes, but if the BE can pull a couple of west coast adjacent teams and create a west division for b-ball too, that's the way to go. Unfortuantely that means tons of travel for the OLY teams but the additional money from F-ball and B-ball would probably cover that.

is there a chart for the TV audience for both conferences for football It's not even close. The BE is superior in that regard, along with almost every other.

Can any of the numerous knowledgeable posters give us a team by team breakdown for next year of the MWC and the BE? I don't know much about either really. Something at least to compare the two.

Sounds like Fun - Wyoming - The Who Cares State with a population of 576,412 in State. No direct flights so you need to fly into Denver and then brave the black ice and switched back roads to Laramie with a population of 30,816.

If this poll is an accurate representation of the SDSU fan-base, then regardless of what happens, SDSU will have lots of fans that might be alienated. (As of this posting, there are 72 votes for staying in the MWC & 77 for staying in the BE)
I'm going to support SDSU regardless of what they do (and see below for what I think), I wonder if this whole episode is going to drive away the few donors that SDSU has? Once a decision is made, Sterk needs to really communicate well what the decision is and why it was made. Make it heart-felt. Don't make it sound like "corporate speak", etc. I don't care if it pisses off the MWC/Big East...
I personally think that staying in the MWC would be best for SDSU:
1) From what it sounds like, the other schools in the conference will absolutely despise SDSU if they return to the MWC. If the team is competitive, stories about how bad SDSU was treated at road games will develop an "us against them" mindset in the San Diego community. There is a chance that we could develop some rivalries within the MWC that way, and develop a fan base.
2) Basketball. I'm a football fan first and foremost...I've had season tickets to football since I graduated in 2000, and attended most games while a student during that period, and I've never had basketball season tickets. That being said, the basketball ride these past few years has been fun, and the MWC provides the best chance at sustaining that momentum going forward.
3) Doesn't hurt progress towards a Big XII invite. (Which I think is unlikely right now). With Boise in the MWC, it's likely the strongest non-AQ conference going forward (especially if Cinci leaves, too). Winning the conference will get us a birth in a BCS 2.0 game. Start winning a few of those, and SDSU will start to get some attention from the "Big Boys"
4) The worst-case scenario in the MWC is better...I fear that the Big East might kick SDSU out if they have a few down years. (They did that to Temple a few years ago). I suspect that many people in the Big East aren't excited about swallowing the costs to travel across the country for their some football games. If we have to go independent, we'd immediately be associated with Idaho and New Mexico St. as an unwanted team, which is a very difficult label to shake once it gets applied.

The only way I would ever want to go back to the nWAC is if we get the exact same deal as Noise. Obviously, the conference can't even afford one of those deals so we'll get nothing. No way in hell I want back in as a step-child of Noise. How in the world would SDSU get a Boise kind of deal? We arent them, we dont have that kind of winning track record, nor do we even have a spec of national hype as Boise does. They got their nice deal because they have backed it up with winning. Be it the Wac, or the MWC.

Very tough to rely on history in order to determine the BE's future conduct. The BE booted out Temple eight years ago. Even assuming only the football schools made that decision, by the time SDSU might be in Temple's shoes, WVU, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville and Rutgers would have all left and been replaced by innumerable other former members of CUSA. So although I too am a football fan first and foremost but nevertheless also think returning to the MWC is preferable unless the BE now does something compelling us to stay, I don't think what the BE did to Temple should have any bearing on the decision making process.
