In the interest of tossing a stink bomb in the middle of the party and/or p*ssing in the punchbowl, I'd like to offer some complete, random speculation that I know is an anathema on this board. Personally, I think JF didn't play last night because of his T for hanging on the rim in the USD game. I think Fish had a long talk with JF after his third T and then JF promptly gets T'd up a fourth time. Fish didn't say a word. He just sat JF on the bench for the remaining 3 minutes of the game. And then he sat him for one game more just to make a point. I don't think it had anything to do with JF's back, but rather, it had everything to do with his head. Discuss. Not surprised at all. After Jamaal's 3rd technical, I actually stated this would happen to the very next player who got a technical foul (i.e. that player would be benched the rest of the game and sit on the bench for the entire next game). I was confident that Coach Fisher would address the growing number of technical fouls this way. When we learned Jamaal was sitting out last night due to a bad back, my first reactions were how convenient and message delivered.

It couldn't possibly be that Fisher was resting his star in prep for 3 tough games or that he needed the minutes to evaluate Johnson or that he wanted a more competitive game against PLNU. Couldn't be any of those.

Couldn't be any of those. Dude is 20. He can rest when he's old. And if that were the case, Fish would've rested Tapley, too. I've heard Fish talk several times about playing a heavy slate of games or playing in the MGC Tourney, etc. He always laughs and says these guys are mostly teenagers. They don't get tired. I'm not saying, JF didn't have a bit of a stiff back, but when a guy is leading the nation in T's and he just got benched the previous game for a really boneheaded T, then you gotta ask.

I think it had to do with Jamaal stopping at Jack in the Box to buy a couple tacos before the shoot around and not getting Fish any. Coach Fisher likes his Jack in the Box tacos and if you don't get him any you don't play. The way I heard it he got the tacos for Coach but forgot to get the taco sauce. LOL Awesome post, showing a great knowledge of our sports programs.

Jamaal would have been pissed if that were the case, I'm sure it was because he could use a little rest for his back with the tourney in Hawaii starting on Saturday.

Coach Fisher specifically stated to various media outlets that Jamaal had a back issue and that after consultation with Tom Abdenour and Jamaal, that he wouldn't dress.
Fisher has NEVER had a problem with sitting/suspending a player for conduct that isn't in line with the team and without going into specific details, has never been bashful with the media when addressing these matters.
Fisher would have never named the trainer if this was a conduct related suspension. It would have put Abdenour in a very tough position and is borderline unethical.
The consequence of getting caught lying to the media is way worse than actually addressing the issue publicly and not worth the risk.

Well if your speculation is true then Maal is a great actor because last night he sure looked to me like someone with a very stiff back.

Fish would let us know if JF was sitting due to Technicals. He would not make up the "back problems" story. Just my 2 cents.

that may have been a part of the reason but can we take the information put forth by the trainer Tom Abdenour , Franklin has struggled with back pain all season, couldn't get loose in the morning shoot around, so He advised the coach to rest him with a long flight then a 3 game T coming up. We should consider ourselves damn lucky that SDSU hired Abdenour. A long time NBA trainer of his caliber knows how to treat players to keep them on the floor without worsening their injuries. Rahon and Shelton could have easily been out for the season last year. Geez, talk about preventing a disaster.

Everyone knows you have to have buttermilk sauce with their tacos!

Fish didn't want Jamaal committing an ill-timed T that could cost them the game.

I heard it was because he was up late helping LBF, his twin brother, look at potential Big West schools to transfer to.
Saw it on the Google.

My season tickets are behind the Aztec bench, and during one of the time outs, Jamaal lifted his shirt up and he had a white square shaped package that covered most of his lower back. It looked like some sort ice or heat pack. The trainer looked like he was tightening the pack on his back with some tape... which looked like saran wrap.
