My impression was it looked like the boys against the men. We were just never in it.

Bottom line is Syracuse hit their shots. We didn't. A lot of missed opportunities. That being said, there's still an entire season of basketball to be played. We'll find our rhythm. Aztec for life. I second this. Play this game inside and we are in it . Please don't give up on our boyz

I was at the game and was surprised by the boxscore's rebounding. We out rebounded them by 10%. Shots that go into the hoop instead of out of it can't be rebounded.

I expect SDSU to be on track by the time we roll through Viejas. I'm not giving up on them after one game.

The shots that didn't go into the hoop at the Orange end, 74% of them were pulled down by the Aztecs. The shots that didn't go into the hoop at the Aztec end, 64% of them were pulled down by the Orange. 74% is more than 64%. The Aztecs out rebounded the Orange by 10%. Your statement doesn't negate any of what I type.
Raw rebound numbers don't always show the true rebound story. That's because games like this distort the numbers. If both teams today rebounded 65% (that is about average) of their defensive rebounds, The Orange would have out rebounded the Aztecs 44 to 37. Since the Aztecs had 41 rebounds instead of 37, they were better than average (by 4 rebounds) and The Orange was below average by 4 rebounds.

Yep, brilliant move by boeheim, nearly a guaranteed win for Syracuse with their zone against a team that will be top 20 come come March. Great resume boost for Syracuse. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using proboards Guaranteed win for Syracuse? BS. Most on here were calling it a guaranteed win for State. Yes, NEARLY a guaranteed win, toughest zone in the country on a boat. Boeheim knew what he was doing. The loss won't hurt sdsu too much and it shuts up the "Syracuse doesn't leave NY" crowd. Not sure who was guaranteeing a Syracuse win, I certainly wasn't. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using proboards

My impression was it looked like the boys against the men. We were just never in it. My impression too. It reminded me a lot of the NC State game last year except there were spots in that game where I thought we might come back with a few runs and win it. That never crossed my mind in this game.

Because we shot 27.0% from the field whereas the Orange shot 44.6%, we had many more offensive rebound opportunities than they did.

I'm with AztecBill because usually when a team shoots really bad, the opponents gets many more rebounds. That is because it is most common for the defense to pull down the rebounds over the offense. I think we were clanking off the rim so hard that we got more offensive boards. No joke, that was the ugliest D1 basketball game I have ever seen. So many airballs, clanked shots, missed free throws, turnovers, even missed lay ups!

J.J Obrien had a nice postgame quote to explain why we had so many offensive rebounds. He said one downfall with a zone defense, versus man to man, is that players do not have an assigned player to box out. So if a shot goes up, they need to find someone to box out. It can create some confusion and provide opportunity for offensive rebounds.

Put this game in Viejas with "The Show" and we have more than a puncher's chance to win. Boeheim knew the locale favored him. I doubt you ever see Syracuse in Viejas.
