This kid is a beast.
I don't know who's going after him, I don't know what his grades are like, but on the field he is a beast. (Well, I did find out that he is part of the student government, is this year's Homecoming King, and is the grandson of an Oceanside City Councilman, for whatever all that is worth...)
Anyway, he ran for 319 yards last night against Vista and just missed out on the school record for yards rushed in a game. I wasn't surprised to find out that this isn't the first time he flirted with that record.
He is amazing at creating daylight/space where there is none. I've never seen a back with the ability to squeeze in between players as well as this kid does. If there's a foot in between two players he can turn that into a full blown hole. It's like he's got motor oil on his jersey because he slides right on through.
He also is amazingly tough to bring down. It usually took 3 to 4 tacklers to bring him down. He had at least 4 runs where he was being brought down by 3 or 4 or 5 Panthers and got away from the pile, was corralled by 3 or 4 more Panthers and got away from them!
He's got good speed. Not great speed, but good enough to pull away from Vista's DB's en route to a 79 yard TD run. Usually you see DB's closing in, this time the running back was pulling away. Vista may not have the best defense in the county, but they've got a couple fast players in Jacob Bedford and Chad Richardson (running backs when playing on offense).
Like I said, I don't know who's going after this kid, but I would hope that the Aztecs have been going after him. He's the best back I've seen all year.

Your Panthers are down this year. Pulu has built a nice program at El Camino. Starting RB from El Camino last year (played basketball too) had no major D1 offers last year and ended up at Idaho State I believe. So, guessing just like last year it just comes down to upside not being their from D1 schools perspective.

Forget the measurables. He's a great football player (he was a monster on defense, too).
Look, I've been doing play by play for Vista for 12 seasons now, and this kid squeezed through smaller holes than anyone I've ever seen. He broke tackles like no one I've ever seen. He managed to make space where there was none, and once in space he flew down the field.
He may not be the fastest or tops on any of those other, "Measurables," but the kid is a great player and will be effective at the next level. You can't measure the stuff that he's best at.

I haven't seen him play so I couldn't say one way or the other, but just because he gashed Vista doesn't make him a player. If he has the talent somebody will find him.

Intangibles are more important than measurables or statistics.
This kid has them in spades. Put him on the right team and he will thrive and contribute big time to that team's offense at the D1 level.

He plays for El Camino. And he didn't just gash Vista (in a way that no one else has this year), he's run through everyone he's faced. Look at his numbers for this year. It isn't like he just performs against bad teams and goes away against good teams.

Intangibles are more important than measurables or statistics. No they aren't, talent is 80-90% of the story.

Intangibles are more important than measurables or statistics. No they aren't, talent is 80-90% of the story. Talent is not measurable. It is an intangible. Instincts - knowing which way to cut, which hole to hit, when to change directions, when to try to go around the end or when to turn it upfield instead. And having the ability to physically carry out what your instincts tell you to do. THAT is what talent is. Not how fast you run in street clothes or how high you can jump. Lots of guys are fast or can jump real high or far - but they can't play football worth a damn. Justin Williams is a great football player. Like I said, I've been doing play by play for 12 years now, and this kid is the very best I've seen during that time when it comes to squeezing in between players and MAKING a hole where there is none, and also when it comes to breaking tackles and not going down. No one I've seen over the last 12 years comes close to what this kid can do. He's a geniune talent - a fantastic running back and a great football player.

Jerry Rice reportedly ran a 4.71 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. He went on to become the greatest WR to ever play. Screw those combine stats. It's all about what you can do in pads on game day.

True that. You either have it or you don't. Speed can be worked on at the next level. Instinct, now that's a different story... This kid reminds me of MJD...
