Ok so we are all extremely excited about this season and this years recruiting class. I'm loving what coach fish is doing in recruiting great defensive players with great length to compliment with go to scores. I also love how we are starting to get tremendous size with X being a 6'3 pg and same with D'Erryl. My ony question is why arent we recruiting more bigs. Stephens is gone after this year whch will leave us with James Johnson and Skylar. I realize that 2 is a good amount but why did we stop recruiting someone like Jordan Bell who just screams sdsu all over him. 6'8 shot blocking defensive freak. in watching his tapes he reminds me a lot of malcolm with a much more raw offensive game. Are we recruting any of big for 2013 or 2014???

The one big we truly recruited hard this spring committed to Kentucky this week, Marcus Lee. Bell is just not good enough offensively to even hide on the court. He would be a liability. I agree we need another big man but we will get by another season and hopefully land a transfer or something. Johnson, Spencer and O'Brien are a very solid trio. Winston is big enough and skilled enough to guard most college 4's as well. We will have a great team next season, especially if we get Isaac Hamilton to commit. If we dont get a quality transfer big, we will desperately need one in the 2014 class, IMO.

Too late for Jordan Bell - he has a top four and we're not in it. UConn has been his favorite forever and since they've offered, I don't see why he hasn't committed there yet.
I agree we could do with another athletic PF type but AFAIK no recruiting sites show any bigs on our radar.
And re: 2014, who knows...maybe they've been talking with the Hamilton family and one of the stipulations is that they don't sign any bigs in 2013 to pave the way for Daniel in 2014. I read that he is projected to be 6'10.

How do you define bigs? Winston Shepard and JJ O'Brien are both taller than Tim Shelton was. And Dwayne Polee is about the same height. We have 2 centers and a bunch of SF/PF which is what Fisher has historically loved.

They listed Jordan Hamilton as 6'8 his entire career but he only measured 6'6 at the combine. Regardless, never would any top program allow an uncommitted wing dictate how they recruit big men. They were all set to offer another SG in the same class as Isaac, and they wanted Marcus Lee. I highly doubt the program is willing to jump through hula hoops and follow strict guideline just to have a chance to sign Daniel Hamilton. Plus we already have Dakari Allen in 2013 who is a better player than Daniel. With that being said, we do need to find some bigs for 2014. Being patient for the chance of signing a good transfer is a better strategy than throwing a scholarship to just any tall guy we see. They'll add a quality big men as soon as they find on that's worthy of playing for SDSU.

These days tall people seem to fall in your lap once you have your guards in place. I'd rather have Stanley Johnson than both Hamilton brothers combined. If I could get a guy like Jordan McLaughlin, you can have Stanley Johnson. The key is to find an NBA quality guards.

In my defense, I was deep into a bottle of scotch last night since over half my company was laid off yesterday.

Yeah but remember you don't have to go to class at Kentucky! It's only for a year anyway.

i dont see how kentucky keeps doing it. they only have 2 scholarships and have signed 4 verbals they bank on people going to the draft i heard from a guy high up with lamb from last years team and he said they did not want him back because they had the same problem they had more verbals than scholarships so he was forced out either draft or transfer.
sdsu really likes johnson and skylar thats why no bigs and they think dhamilton can play the 4 if he signs with us no need for bigs yet

Jordan is 6'7 220.... if Daniel is 6'7 now, there is def a good chance he gets to 6'8 or 6'9.

Does it not affect your API It does not as long as the player finishes out the school year in good standing and does not leave at the end of Winter semester. That is part of the deal Calipari makes with the Kentucky guys. Conversely, Kawhi, Malcolm and Billy White all left at semester to get prepared for the draft.
