After every loss, there are about 20 piss and vinegar threads blasting the program, staff, and players, many of them started as early as the first quarter. After this dominant win, there was not one thread talking about the game other than this "good crowd" thread. Yeah, it was Hawaii, but it was a 20 point spread and they won by nearly double that. Does that tell you what sort of fan base this school has? A whole bunch of pretty fing miserable people if you ask me.

Like you said, we almost doubled the spread against this team, which tells me we have what it takes, but our coaching staff needs to instill consistancy into the squad. There's very little reason other than injury to underperform like we have so far.

Fact is, this game was not an interesting matchup. I just needed to see a beat down by our boys and they came thru. But there really wasn't much of a challenge or any intrigue in this game. Glad we are at .500 again.

Anybody can do whatever they want with their time. Nobody has an obligation to give 2 shits about SDSU football. Calling out people for not coming is ridiculously stupid. They will come if they want to come. Historically SDSU football hasn't given people a reason to come for YEARS. We haven't had a major upset of a good football team since before I was born, and I'm 25. Go ahead and say that people aren't "good fans". Who gives a $#!+ what kind of fans they are? If we start winning meaningful games people will come. Until then you'll get stuck with about 15k diehards and 5k more randoms. Nail-Head. Last I checked the terms for signing up to AztecMesa doesn't require an invoice for your season tickets or Aztec Club donation levels for any of the Aztec teams. Tec, anyone who says they went to a game and the team played well but they were still bored is a bad fan. Either that or they don't really like football, and in that case what the hell are they doing commenting on the sport? The games are boring IMHO. How anyone watches our BARELY BETTER THAN HIGHSCHOOL team and thinks its exciting is beyond me...but, you're into the team, so that's cool. I prefer to watch football teams that are well coached, can PUNT A FREAKING FOOTBALL, and make it exciting. Beating up on a hapless Hawaii team is nothing to be smug about. You're pong table in the parking lot has 10 times the excitement of our games...which reminds me, I'll see you on the rectangle field of battle on Saturday!!

the basketball games were super boring too - you'd have half a dozen guys in mexican wrestler masks, a couple thousand blue hairs and a couple thousand others spread out behind each goal drinking sam adams - well that part was good - you could hear Fisher scream at the point guard, the sneaker squeak was louder than the fans...but I always enjoyed the hell out of them and went to every game I could. Football has a ways to go to get to the 05 and on level of bball and even that had no one there to see it most of the time.
Maybe Ronnie and Hoke were our Randy and Faux and now we're going through our Burns and FroGuy from Mizzou.

I am a college b-ball freak, so it never bothered me. I also think the crowds were larger than 7k three seasons ago. At least they were larger for MWC games. BTW, i'm one of those olde tymers who have had season tix since Tony G played.

Calling people "fing miserable people", who don't see the attendance issue the same as you do, is probably not very constructive. But it does help us understand you a little better.

Looking around at all the newbies in my section I remarked out loud how nice it would be if they'd come back just for football. You get some strange looks when you say things like that. I always get the impression at skyshow how most there have never even been in Qualcomm before, much less ever seen college football before. Hoping to see something better than the usual 24.500 this week. Oh, well. Hopefully having Oregon State on the schedule next year and several Big East opponents will bring an enlarging fan base. But, unfortunately, in a city where people think Wyoming is a resort and New Mexico is a nation, I can't imagine why SMU, or Central Florida or even Louisville or Rutgers will impress our uninspired casual fans.

I liked it too, but I could see why people wouldn't, just like I can see why they wouldn't like football games now. 4 or 5k for OOC games at Viejas is not very exciting, for the UofA or Texas Tech games when it'd be sold out was awesome, that's kind of analogous to the sky show. But, we were averaging in the 8s before the uptick, and that meant some really barren games. I point it out merely to show that bball was successful or getting successful and it was pretty empty some nights - nothing comes readymade in this city, football has a lot of work to do, hopefully hanging 50 at the sky show will help a bit

"Fear the Spear" wouldn't really work at a basketball game. ; ) But seriously, you are making the point most here are saying. Why didn't yyou go to basketball games before six years ago? Because the product wasn't as good as it is now. Everything comes back to winning. If our football team was 6-0 right now my guess is you and every one else in this town would be lining up for tickets. The atmosphere at Viejas Arena came after the team became very good. If we were 6-0 I totally would be at every game. If we had beaten Washington I probably would have been at every game as well. But even if the team was winning more, the games still aren't as fun. I went to the New Mexico game last year where the Aztecs played a great game, but I was still bored. I think part of it is that the stadium is too big. If SDSU gets a 40,000 seat stadium with Red seats and Aztec decorations everywhere, it will be different. The sound will travel better, the stadium will be more full, and there will be a better atmosphere. The stadium absolutely has something to do with it and it annoys the hell out of me when posters argue to the contrary. At Jack Murphy Stadium, fans are too far from the field, there's no sense of intimacy, there are always too many empty seats, the seats are Charger blue, the students are a non-factor except for the home opener, etc, etc. The only posters who disagree are Chargers fans that get all hot and bothered just by being in their heroes' digs. The Murph sucks as a home for the Aztecs and any new stadium we move to that also houses the Chargers will similarly suck for SDSU.

We'll be lucky to pull in 24.5 this Saturday. For one thing, CSU is awful so except for family members, they won't bring anybody. So my guess is there will be 500 Rams fans in attendance. Also, anybody who knows anything about football (i.e., folks unlike the idiot who writes for the Honolulu paper) knows Hawaii was awful so the score did not indicate that the Aztecs all of a sudden got really good. I'll guess 22.5 for CSU. As to next year, attendance will be much better. Probably close to the 39K we averaged in 2010 would be my guess. For one thing, those BE schools you mention have never played in SD and so figure to bring at least five grand in fans with them. For another, those schools may not exactly be Alabama but they are at least a novelty and not just one more game against crummy CSU.

I'm not a chargers honk, and I mostly agree it's not the best situation for us. But, if we filled the lower bowl with mostly season tickets and then the fluctuation in attendance happened in the (now a reason to be opened) view section, the stadium would be more than fine

The list of things that make the "Q" bad is a mile long before we get to its size. The Aztecs can thrive in a 60K+ stadium as long as it is a new NFL stadium. That would resolve almost all problems with the "Q". In a new stadium like that the crowds would be very very good, thereby resolving the last problem. I am only a casual observer of the Chargers but I fully think a new stadium would be very good for the Aztecs.
