Good article. It's been pretty quiet on the media deal front of late. I take it from his comments that they are going to see what they can get on the open market and not sign with ESPN in the 60 day period.
I liked this comment: "We want to make sure we're leaders in new media, that's extremely important. We want to make sure we're at the cutting edge and doing all the right things."
I think there is an opportunity for the Big East to cut a whole new kind of deal with one of the networks.
Should be interesting to watch.

NBC did stream olympic events online (although you had to provide a cable/satellite provider to gain access to it). Maybe internet streaming that includes mobile devices will be part of a NBC deal.

ESPN has been doing that for years now. Should be a requirement for any deal - and not a pay per view model either.

Don't be so sure about that... Why would any conference add pieces right now? They are all locked into contracts. Adding another school would just shrink the piece of pie for each of the current member schools. You don't actually know anything, you just want to rain on our parade.

You do know that using common sense and logic will get you nowhere on this board, right? ;D

The ACC contract is about to be up for re-negotiation... just got renegotiated, and all that happened is they got a raise 9 years from now.

There was a post on the BE board that was a bit disturbing. Even though the TV bidding process is ongoing, the last year of their current BE TV contract with ESPN expires after the 2013 season. So from my understanding the new members will initially receive a watered down share from what they're receiving now, which will likely be under $3 million per team. Still better than the $1.2 million the MWC paid us.
Even if the new TV contract pays the football only members a minimum of $6.5 million, we won't see that until 2014. This may be moot if the BE decides to buy out that last year from ESPN. Unless they're part of the new deal, I think they'll tell them to **** off and hold them to it.
