Looking at the results and the opponents, My revised call is as follows:
UW - L ARMY - W ND - W SJSU - L FSU - L Hawaii - W (Give up an Average 55 points to DI opp) CSU - W (Give up an Average of 32 Points, Team Speed is no Bueno) NEV - L UNLV - W (Give up an Average of 30 Points, Very undisciplined on both sides of the ball) Boise - L AFA - W (Stopping the 3option is bread and butter for the Aztecs) WYO - W (Oddly, Wyo has no rushing attack and a good passing attack. The elements in WYO tip the scale to Muema and company as the conditions hurt them more than State)
7-5 - A disappointing 7-5. JMO.
MW Bowls
12/15 NM Bowl - State 12/20 Point Bowl - Nevada 12/22 LV Bowl - Boise 12/24 Hawaii Bowl - Fresno 12/29 AF Bowl - AFA

I think that is a very good 7-5 prediction.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if the team captures lightning for one fall afternoon and manages to win at UNR or Boise, only to lose to a team like UNLV, WYO, or AFA.

Before the first game of the season I would have predicted a win over San Jose and a toss-up in the final game against Wyo to determine if we finish at 7-5 or 8-4.
If somehow this team still manages to end up at 8-4, I think we'd all be pretty happy with the season in total even if we are off to a dissapointing start.

I will take that result at this point any day of the week. From where we are coming from the last decade and with the pieces we lost last year, going 7-5 and bowling for a third straight year is progress and not just lateral movement. How many teams other than the elite (which are leaving or have left) in the MWC have done that? I'll take a slightly above average season and a bowl game/win, move on to the Big East, and call it a day.

Since 2002 next year's MWC teams to go to 3 straight bowls: Air Force (07-11), New Mexico (02-04), Hawaii (02-04, 06-08), Nevada (05-11), Fresno (02-05, 07-10) That is half of the future MWC, though the UNM streak was a long time ago and doesn't look like they will be returning soon. Hawaii isn't great now but you can see them making a return in a year or two. The other three teams are in good shape. Still, especially considering the Aztecs football history, 3 bowls in 3 years is nothing to sniff at.

We're going to get absolutely curb stomped by UNR. I for one am elated I didn't take my buddy in Sacto up on his offer to get tickets for that debacle if I would fly up there and attend the game with him.
Otherwise, every game is winnable, including against Boise State if we actually play even mediocre defense.

Sounds about right. Would also be the most undeserving bowl team ever. Our 6 D1 victories would be over teams that have about 18 combined wins, almost all against each other. 5 of the wins would come at home. No one in the country has a softer schedule.

Agree with Monty. I guess I was too optimistic for 8 or 9 wins.
Looking at Aztecs' schedule, I felt that Boise and AFA would be tough outs. I believe Aztecs can handle Nevada on the road.
I never say never, though.

Maybe not, but I'm not ready to rule out 7-5 just yet. Sterk better have a good candidate ready to accept if he fires a HC that just went 7-5.

Haw: Win - Chow was just an awful hire for them as HC CSU: Win, we just squeaked out a win last year, but they seem to have gotten worse UNR: Loss, curb stomped UNLV: Win Boise: Loss, beat pretty badly AFA: late in the season=win WYO: loss, they will be way up for that game

Right now, I feel a bit more optimistic about the Wyoming game than I did in the pre-season. At that time, UNLV looked like it would be gawd awful. However, the Rebels have improved to being merely bad. The result should be that Wyoming will have to actually prepare for UNLV the week before playing us rather than spending half their practice time that prior week concentrating on the Aztecs. And BTW, Monty, assuming a bowl berth is on the line, our players will be way up to play Wyoming.

And BTW, Monty, assuming a bowl berth is on the line, our players will be way up to play Wyoming. I really think that SDSU could get into a bowl game at 6-6 this year. (So basically, win the home games, and we'll be traveling to New Mexico) The MWC Bowl Tie-Ins are: 1. Vegas Bowl 2. Poinsettia Bowl 3. Armed Forces Bowl 4. Hawaii Bowl 5. New Mexico If I had to guess, here are the bowl eligible teams in the Mountain West: Locks: Boise -> likely finishes 10-2. (They aren't a great team. Will likely lose at least one game, if not more) Nevada -> also likely 10-2. Will probably beat Boise, and lose a different game. Likely to make it: Fresno -> 3-2 now with several cupcakes, could finish 8-4. Probable to make it: SDSU -> 2-3 now, but 4 winnable home games remain. Air Force -> 2-2, with winnable games (Army & Navy, plus New Mexico & Hawaii @ home) Doubtful: New Mexico -> 2-3 also, but a tougher schedule remaining, plus they need 7 wins. (They have a road game @ Hawaii, so they play 13 games this year) They really need to beat Texas State this weekend if they want any sort of a chance... Very, very slight chance: Wyoming -> 1 win so far, with 3 losses. Going to lose to Nevada & Boise, likely going to lose to Fresno, so that means they'd need to win their other games (including the boot) to make a bowl game. Not a chance: UNLV -> Needs 7 wins, already has 1 win with 4 losses, and still hasn't played Nevada or Boise Hawaii -> Also needs 7 wins, only 1 win and 3 losses so far, but team hasn't looked good Colorado St -> 1 win & 4 losses so far, they've looked terrible.

Thanks, some_aztec. For reasons discussed already, whether we would deserve it or not, if offered the opportunity to play in the NM Bowl, we should take it.

This team will either get turned around in this week's game and next's and go sky high, or they're going to lose and cascade into oblivion. It should be epic, either way. Mark my words.

And if you did bet your garbage, I'd be proud. I'm not even sure what this means, and JC do we really need some election comment? General election years are a punishment from an angry god, do we really need to hear about it everywhere? Some people in their late 30s that took a couple classes at JUCOs in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania will decide which puppet we're stuck with the next 4 years so might as well just hope one of the VP candidates says something silly next week so the next month isn't so awful.
