I know you kids are having fun with this. I have to admit it is fun rattling your cages but the reality is, regardless of where any school plays, I have the ability to see them whenever and wherever I want. What you people can't seem to want to discuss it what impact this move will have on the program as it relates to wins. The program did nothing in the WAC, did virtually nothing in the MW and now all you rocket scientists are looking at this next move as the second coming. For the sake of those on this board, I sincerely hope you are right. Oh, and a quick geography lesson. When State joins the new BE, I'll be closer to the other conference teams than you brain trusts. But I have to admit, after years of flying from all parts of the country to see the Aztecs mostly lose, I can't say that the days of going out of my way to see Aztec football is going to be high on my radar. I'll always have better things to do. Early retirement is pretty f*cking cool! Actually I majored in (the) rocket science(s)... so if we're mediocre, why not get paid for it. Seriously how long to you think the program will last taking millions from the general fund? not even mentioning the student fees... seriously what do you think will happen if we stay in the mw and get 1M per year and continue to operate in the red?

Last try, Retired Baggage Handler. After this you can just wallow in your closed-minded pessimism. First, you seem to think that because we have lost in the past, then losing is all we will ever do until the end of time. We lost in the WAC 30 years ago, so therefore we will never win a game in the BE. I really hope you don’t need to be told that there is no logic in that. The Big East will mean more money and visibility, which will mean better facilities and coaches, which will eventually translate to more wins. The Tollner/Craft/Luginbill/Chuckie years are over.
Second, nobody seems able to reach you on the fact that staying in the MWC is a death sentence for football. The league will die. It will starve for revenue. The school and state will stop subsidizing us. There is no happily-ever-after ending for us in the Mountain West.
Third, the basketball team you (claim to) care so much about will do fine. The benefits of BE membership will wash over onto all the other sports on campus. Fisher is no fool; he understands this is good for hoops in the long run. Even a crappy football team adds to a school’s athletics image, and basketball coaches know that better than anybody. This is why UNLV always gives a firm “no way” to those who call for the game to be discontinued there.
Baggage Handler, there is absolutely no reason for not taking the Big East opportunity. None. And are you listening to any of this? Nope.

However, as a counterpoint to your rather baseless argument, I would posit that not only are we better off getting PAID while being mediocre (as others have said), but that there is most definitely a postiive corelation between a program's long-term success and it's TV exposure and/or AD's budget. That you cannot grasp this surprises me. That you deriseively attempt to devalue our opinions by ironically referencing our respective education, degrees, and careers suggests the view must be pretty damn special from your gilded tower in Mormonville.

His schtick is this. He retired to a burb of SLC expecting to be able to drive to see the Aztecs play Utah there and BYU in Provostan and to have a short flight to see them play the three front range schools and UNR. Then Utah and BYU messed him up by bailing on the Molehill West and SDSU further screwed him up by leaving the conference entirely. So except for Boise, which he also expected to be in the MWC with us, we won't be in a conference with any school within an hour flight. Sucks for him but that's the way the ball bounces. So you, as well as others, are bagging on a guy that continues to support yet has concerns about SDSU athletics and its future. The comments he makes are more realistic than the fantasy world that some, not all, are living in here. And are you telling me that all Alumni must live in San Diego in order to support SDSU?? We even had someone recently say in a post that Alumni that haven't been on campus in a while are douche bags. Real nice!!! I am an SDSU grad, but also moved to Utah for employment reasons. My wife who is in the medical field, got transferred to the UU. I'm guessing there a lot of people in here that have never been to SLC but seem to know everything about it. I have been here almost ten years now and I have to tell you, it’s pretty damn cool. Not only a beautiful place with the best skiing in the world, but I enjoyed the fact that I could support my Alma Mater in the heart of MWC country, yet still having the ability to get to SD once in a while to visit and catch a game or two. I have given money to the University and try to support the best I can. I enjoy talking about SDSU with both BYU and Utah fans. And yes, a few USU fans as well. Lets face it, there has been some damn good football played up here in the last 10 years including in the very close Boise. Every year I would get excited about Aztec football possibly taking part in that only to be disappointed. At least I had basketball. I'm not happy that is gone. So what!!! I'm also not happy about losing the rivalries that SDSU has had for the last 35 years. You know as well as I do there were always a couple of games that you had circled on your calendar. Dislike them or not, BYU was most likely one of them. They drew the biggest crowds. Just curious how well the Aztecs are going to draw in the BE. That TV money (Who really knows how much) is going to get eaten up trying to survive like a fish out of water in the BE. Good luck drawing 15K with all the new BE rivalry games coming up. I’m sure you can’t wait for them. I also asked you a question about what teams you thought SDSU is eventually going to end up tied to. Your answer sounded like you were not convinced the BE was going to work out either. I am also seeing a few more people having their suspicions about this whole thing as well. Nonetheless, you gave me a list of teams that looked like a vamped up MWC. Weird!! Weird in the fact that you and others bash anyone that is concerned with this BE move. Well, I’ll say it again, it sucks!!! And not just for personal reasons. It’s going to suck not only for football, but for basketball as well. Right now, as well as next year, the MWC is better than the BE. The MWC is going to survive without the Aztecs and that's a shame. Good luck with all the millions. aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2012-07-30/big-east-struggle-conference-expansion-syracuse-pitt-west-virginia

UU and USU are not as well for that matter. Then why did you bring them up? We can talk about the number of fans that would show up for a game against ucla too... but still has nothing to do with the move to the BE. our attendance will be no worse than it is today.

The world has changed, I've had to radically adjust my vision of the college football landscape. If you and retiredaztec are comfortable with a lower division existence, that is fine but our only shot at playing at the highest level of competition is the path we are taking. Whether we "earned" it or not is irrelevant, we have our shot now. Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

Dude is going to put us in the best position he can - the upgrade in commissioner along makes the move worth it.
The person with direct knowledge of the plan said new Big East commissioner Mike Aresco spearheaded the push for the addition of a seventh game to be added to the system, and presented a plan for the highest-rated champion from the other five conferences to be assured a spot in the game.

Ok let's play the hypothetical game. Take away the FCS games, BSU and SDSU as they are superate, the new MWC members (as they weren't going to be invited without BSU/SDSU leaving and games within the 8 teams against each other: That leads the MWC to 5-14 record with 0 teams above 500 (only UNR at 500). Make same rules for new big east, 10-13, is the big east good? Of course not, it is mediocre/average but miles above the MWC.

I know SDSU fans are a bit worried with ND leaving and the state of BE football, especially because the new CUSA members plus SDSU football's recent losses. This brings out all the worrywarts. The changes bring risk but also rewards. I think as an outside observer from SDSU but a proponents of he move since it helps the BW, I have to say the recent plans make all the sense in the world. Let me explain... The Big 5 are not going to welcome BE. That's simple. So if you believe you are the best of the rest, then you include every conference and have them match one of the top 5 conferences. Now you have a huge group and the BE has the biggest lead and most borderline calls will mean BE gets the nod. Brilliant move. The new BE presidents next move is to secure a BE champion bowl as the 7th bowl game. This could mean 2 more teams with solid bowl games. We know BE is the best of the rest. They have better fans, stadiums and ranking. Add this to the new television deal with ESPN or NBC and you will be that much more ahead of the rest of the group. SDSU fans should not fear getting grouped with the rest but use the leverage and show the BE is the best. My 2 cents. Dude is going to put us in the best position he can - the upgrade in commissioner along makes the move worth it.
